  • I'm sure I'm crazy but these things seem to work for me. Please share your own!

    - I won't let myself eat if I need to pee at all (and I have to pee a lot because I drink a lot of water).

    - I make myself wash all the dishes before cooking and make sure the place is really clean.

    - I rock back and forth while on the computer because it's fun and any extra calories help.

    - Days that I'm working from home and I know I'm going to workout I put on my exercise clothes in the morning so I don't let myself get through the whole day without working out.

    - I also don't let myself take a shower before I workout on days that I need to exercise.
  • Interesting quirks. I like the first one especially. I have to start doing that!

One I can add is that I absolutely do not eat when it doesn't taste great unless I am invited. So at home or restaurants it has to be spot on or I don't eat it. I don't like throwing food out i.e. wasting it but I rather do that than adding it to my body.
We went to a restaurant (I don't like but we were invited) a few weeks ago. I asked to replace the fries with baked potatoes and the coleslaw with salad but they brought it out anyways. That was not nice! However, I just had the burger (actually 1/2 because it wasn't great) and NO fries or coleslaw whatsoever. The waitress was surprised and wanted to pack a doggie bag but I declined. I am not stuffing my face with things that are not worth it. I went home and had a snack.
I know that sounds drastic but so is the amount of pounds I have to lose.

PS: I should clarify that if I am invited and somebody cooks for me, I eat it. I don't want to be rude. But restaurants have to perform in my opinion.

I do the same. On 1200 to 1400 calories a day, every last one of them better be delicious. If it is mediocre or flat out bad, it goes in the trash. Last weekend, I went to Panera and ordered a cup of soup and a half a panini. I took one bite of the panini, discovered it had some sort of sauce on it that I did not enjoy, and threw it in the trash. I felt bad throwing it away, and kept thinking well that was a $9 cup of soup, but it was better than eating 340 calories that I did not enjoy.
  • Hmmmm, I don't think I have any weight loss quirks that could top yours LOL

I suppose the peeing one is pretty strange but it actually has helped me cut back on eating a lot because I also rethink if I really need to eat whatever on my way to the bathroom.

I definitely do the shower thing.

The rocking back and forth you might want to avoid doing in front of other people or you might really start raising eyebrows!

I work from home a lot.

OMG, I am not alone!! I do the same thing. Even if I feel like I have to pee just a little, I will go. I can't sit and eat when I feel like I have to pee.
  • My mother in law washes the dishes after cooking and before eating. MIght work for her, but when we used to go visit her, it was a REAL PITB to always have cold food. Now she lives with us and I cook, so no matter.

For my own quirks. I don't think I have any related to food or weight loss - oddly enough. Except I will write on my blog every single day and even on blips up, I update my tickers every single time there is a change in exercise or weight.

I do the same! Though I sometimes modify the second one, such that if I do need to take a shower before working out, I don't shave, which means I have to exercise to take that second shower so I can shave.

Oh, that's a good idea, I never thought about that!

Emme- I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone with this!

berryblondeboys- I used to be more religious with updating my ticker but now I have a lilyslim one and I have to go to the actual website to update it, which is too annoying.
  • Oh, these are funny! Whatever works, though, right?

Okay, this isn't really a quirk, but it is sort of strange: I had my husband set up a computer "workstation" for me on my treadmill so that I can walk and do work on my computer. A year or so ago, I realized that I did so much work on my computer that I was sitting for at least two hours at a time. I read somewhere about a Mayo clinic doctor who invented treadmill workstations, so I got my handy husband to create one for me. I usually walk at 2.5 mph for 1.5 - 2 hours, about 5 days a week. For Seinfeld fans: My husband said it seems like something Kramer would come up with!

Oh by the way, I agree with the not eating anything that isn't to my liking. I don't always do this, but I regret it when I don't. If I "spend" my calories on food I don't enjoy, I'll just be resentful and eat what I do enjoy afterwards anyway, so I'm trying really hard not to worry so much about wasting food.

I love this idea, and was thinking about it for a while at some point. I fear I'd hurt myself by getting wrapped up in something and forgetting to walk. I don't work from home any more so it's really out for now anyway.
  • I used to be a really bad computer junkie... Matter of fact I'm sure it contributed to MANY pounds gained over the years. I have limited my computer time greatly, and only use it standing up. The only time I allow myself to sit (at the computer)is if I'm working on the bookkeeping.

I also use a really tiny baby spoon when I eat things like yogurt, cottage cheese, and other spoon foods. Makes it last longer.

I also will NEVER let myself have any "treats" if my weight is over 143. I immediately go back to "diet mode" if I'm an ounce over...

    People think I'm anal...lol

Years ago, I was watching some weight loss show on t.v., and the host was trying to help a woman lose weight. This woman's husband wasn't really fat, but he said he could stand to lose about ten pounds (didn't even look like that to me). The host suggested to the husband to do away with his chair at work and stand instead (he worked at a counter---like a receptionist's counter). Over the course of a couple of months, he lost ten pounds doing that and not changing his eating habits at all! Now, that was a man, and they're normally blessed with fast weight loss, so I'm sure that same one change would not result in such dramatic results for everyone. However, it does show that "activity level" is about much more than the formalized exercise we might do at the gym 5 days a week. The older I get, the more I realize that "activity level" is about our everyday habits. This has encouraged me to do more housework!

I do the same. I use an espresso spoon.
