Hmmmm... sizes range so differently, different brands, different stores, same weight/height for some people yet STILL wear "different sizes"... it's a conundrum!!!

When I was 138 about 5 years ago, I was a size 6-8. At 152, I was a 10-12.

CURRENTLY: I am 5'3.5" tall (short!) & 170 and wear a 14 in jeans, and usually a large on top. Bra size is 38C, but since I've lost from 184 to 170, my bras are getting a bit too loose & I'm wearing them on the "last hook", so I may drop down to a 36C. My jeans have always been 14s - BUT, I really SHOULD have been wearing 16s (esp at 192!!!) it's just that I completely refused to buy any larger sizes, & kept stuffing my fat *** into the 14s, LOL! :dizzy:

So I'm COMFORTABLE in my 14s now, which some are already a bit loose... I hope to lose another 10 pounds & be back in my 12s by mid-late summer, and another 10-15 pounds lighter & comfortably wearing 10s by Xmas time. (In my most flamboyant dreams, I'm 135 & back to 6-8 sizes... :goodvibes )

I can wear crazy-sized tops. Currently, most are large. But I have plenty of mediums, some smalls, and a few X-large that fit me nicely.

Women sizes are just CRAZY, and that's my final conclusion. :D

zoodoo - Do you do any strength training at all? Many times the difference is because of the amount of muscle a person has. 5 pounds of fat tissue is a lot bigger than 5 pounds of muscle. If you aren't already doing so, I suggest you start strength training. Look for a body pump type class in your area or check out The New Rules of Lifting for Women. I do both body pump style and regular lifting, in February I only lost 1.4 pounds but I lost 3.25 inches.

I'm 5'5 and 136lbs. I am generally a 4 or 6, although today I am wearing a pair of size 2 jeans from the Gap sooo a bit vanity sized :)

At 160-166, I wore a size 10.

FitGirlyGirl- I've just gotten started this time around, and I'm barely getting any cardio yet, much less strength training, which has always held less appeal for me. I'm sure it's a good idea, but it's not something I can get excited about.

There's no telling what I'm like now, but when I was young, I was VERY muscular. Short, stocky, strong as an ox. I'm still pretty strong, but I think it's more because I know how to use my whole body to do things that other people try with their arms only.

I weigh 195, i'm 5'4" and i wear a 14/16 (now 14 again) and tops a L or XL. But i have pants that i can wear that are 12s and some 16s are soooo tight but i refuse to get a bigger size! I was 170 a few years ago and remember complaining then, i would kill to be that now :( oh well, doing my best! I'm a pear shape for sure. My waist is a 31 but my hips are bigger.

stasiagurl91 04-05-2011 04:40 PM

I don't know exactly my size. I would say a size 20. All my pants are size 22 but i need a belt with all of them (i hate wearing that STUPID belt!) tops i xlrg.

I agree - it's all your shape, build, percentage of muscle/toning, etc.

I'm a short 5'3" and 243. I'm VERY pear shaped - wide hips, big butt and thighs, small up top. I wear a 42B bra, which is an extremely difficult size to find. I can barely fit into some of my 22 bottoms - have some 24s. Most jeans/pants end up being too long for me at that size. 20 works in tops sometimes, but if it goes much lower than my waist, I need a bigger size to fit around my hips. My sister is 5'10" and wears size 20. She has the opposite problem, though, of not being able to get pants and jeans long enough.

I am 5'6". 142 lbs currently. I also have several sizes in my closet. Tops are small and some x-small. I wear 4-6 in jeans, size 4 in dressier pants/slacks and skirts. Size 5 underwear. Shoes are 7.5, medium width.

When I was at my heaviest (235-240), I wore size 18-20W jeans, XL and 1X tops, Size 11 underwear, and my shoes were 8-8.5 wide width.

I'm 5'7'' and currently 234. For pants i wear anywhere between a 16 and 20 depending on the brand and if its stretch or normal waist. And for tops anywhere between a xl or xxl because i'm big in that dept... Before i had kids i was a size 11 though, but my hips are my best worst enemy lol..

gagalu 04-05-2011 09:01 PM

size 16

GlamourGirl827 04-05-2011 09:32 PM

I'm 5' 1/2".... I'm 173 and I'm just between sizes right now. (I hate that) 14's are a little too big, and look kind of sloppy, but 12's are a little too tight. Its probably the jeans I own. Maybe if I went out, depending on the brand, I'd find a 14 or 12 that fits right. Tops...totally depends on the shirt. Anything from a M to XL.

trancedreamer 04-05-2011 10:06 PM

when i'm 160, i'm an 8 on the bottom.
i'm currently a 12. 18 lbs to lose to go down 2 dress sizes. meh. no big deal.

the hips/legs/butt are always too big. but my belly button/"f.u.p.a." is always too tight & is impossible to breathe; literally chokes me. i have a flappy man gut; majorly. but it does go down progressively as i get smaller.

as for my top, i have broad shoulders/ribs/no breasts. so, med or large for the frame. but small for the girth/width. haha. "halffull:

I find that pants from the Gap are smaller than pants I get elsewhere. I have 18s from many different stores, and I can still only fit into a 20 from the Gap. I can also fit into a size 16 from Old Navy.

Anyways, I'm 5' 2.75" and I wear anywhere from a tight 16 to a really loose 20. Most of my 18s are loose on me right now. In tops I generally wear an XL, or a 14/16. Bra size is "supposedly" a 38D, but I actually can't fit in anything smaller than a 40DD. These girls just don't measure right!
