I am feeling very sad. I was at a pool tournament where lots of people haven't seen me for months. I was getting positive feedback from some folks about my 40 pound weight loss. One guy walked up to me, looked me up and down, and said, "what happened to you? Crank?"

Usually I can let something like that go by. But, it has me feeling sad. Most people are pleasant and supportive. But, why are some people unkind about weight loss? It doesn't make much sense

don't let it upset you! 40 pounds is a huge loss and you should be proud of yourself for getting there. you saw a problem in your life and you had the courage to get up and make a change for the better. you've obviously worked hard to get where you are, and that makes you awesome!

people are jerks sometimes. maybe he was just jealous that you had the courage and will power to make a change in your life, and he can't do it? who knows. you're doing a great job, and keep it up!!

Yeah, it sounds like that person is just not pleasant in general and would be that way no matter what, you sound like you were feeling great, don't let them ruin it.

rie, i was the same way! i snooped it out a little bit before i decided to join. then i just jumped right in. everyone's been so nice, it's hard to believe i was thinking "it will be so weird to join a group were everyone knows each other..."

What a jerk! It sounds like he's the one with the problem, not you. You've accomplished something amazing. Be proud of it, no matter what jerks like him say!

Seems like when people are insecure, they feel superior to you when you are fat, so when you lose weight it bothers them. Now they have to find something else about you to judge. Most people are nice but there is always a few bad apples in every crowd. Congrats on the work you've done!

Are you sure the dude wasn't just a chubby chaser who thought you were hot when you were heavier?

He may have thought he was being cute and complimentary: "of course you haven't been doing drugs, but the transformation is so amazing it's hard to believe it's natural" type remark.

I am in TX and have a good friend from New England who has been here 30 years but still sometimes will be insulting and not realize it. She grew up in a place with a strong Calvinistic heritage, and they never gave straight-forward compliments. To compliment someone, you do the "joke-insult" thing. It's just how they are. She's gotten a lot better over the years, but sometimes she forgets. We taught together, and there were one or two times when she'd jokingly say something to the kids as a legitimate compliment and they'd come ask me why she was so hard on them. I'd have to explain it wasn't that at all.

I bet he is slightly awkward socially and really didn't mean to be upsetting. Please don't let it make you sad... nothing should overshadow a 40 pound loss!

Congratulations on your 40 pound loss. That is a great accomplishment.Try to ignore ignorant people, not only is he ignorant he is rude also. You are so much better than him.

Of course not being there I dont know how it was said but maybe he was trying to be funny? I have a sence of humor that most people dont get and some times I say stuff that other people find mean rather then funny when thats not what I am trying to be. I am not sticking up for this guy he should not have said that and it was mean, but I am just trying to have some faith in people and hope that maybe he really wasnt trying to be mean. I am really sorry that it hurt you feelings though.
My mom went to FL for three months worked her butt off daily took alli (sp) and watched what she ate. She dropped 50 lbs and when she came home so many people talked ****! She had lipo or she did drugs or what have you it broke her heart to know people would think like that of her. Finally I told her LOOK AT YOU!!!! YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL! and YOU KNOW YOU DID THIS IN A HEALTHY WAY! SO F what every one else has to say they dont matter! Same goes to you! Dont worry about ignoratant people they dont understand that not all of us take the easy or stupid way out of being big! GREAT JOB ON LOSING 40 LBS!
