Just started and stuck already

  • I am on the same amount of calories as you, and lost 1.2lbs this week, and felt stuck too. I also have the goal of 2lbs a week, and I realize now I wont always make it. So my new goal is to just stay on plan, even if the scale is evil, and doesn't tell me the number I want to see.

I want to be at goal by the end of the year, but realistically does it REALLY matter if I am still 20lbs away? I will feel so much better then I did at the start of this year, and wont have much to lose next year. With that said, I really want to be at goal by the end of the year lol

I have read many success stories here about being doing exactly what we are doing. They stuck with it even when they were disappointed, and made it to goal. Just don't give up, keep doing what your doing, and you will get there!
  • I really don't agree that 1lb/week is all you can hope for at your current weight. The more weight we have to lose, the FASTER and EASIER it is to lose it. It's my guess that since you were losing 3-4 lbs/week at 1500 cals until you dropped it to 1200 cals., that you may have gone too low. Why fix something that's not broken? If 1500 was working, I'd stick with that.

Realistically, if you are working out (giving your all) at least 4 days/week, eating proper amounts of protein, carbs, healthy fats (which is very very difficult to do at 1200 cals.), and eat between 1500-1700 cals/day, you can expect to lose 2-3 lbs/week.

Can it be done...sure can. I did it. I started at around 1500 cals. and am still at 1500 cals. and losing consistently. I personally know another member here that is also 5'9, and started around 266 and have lost extremely consistently for the past 5 months at a rate of 2-3 lbs/week!

Lastly, I HIGHLY recommend you monitor your sodium intake (try to keep it under 2,000 mgs). I do this, and do not have the crazy fluctuations on the scale that many people seem to have...this means alot to the scale watcher!
  • Quote: First of all, your definitely eating more than 1200 calories because anything below that is seriously unhealthy.

    Do this...

Instead of all that cardio, replace it with strength training.

The reason being that its not about the calories burnt in the session but the calories burnt after it that counts!

You're doing too much cardio and that by itself is counterproductive to your goals.

Instead of going 5-6 times, go 4 times. Monday, tuesday, thursday, friday. The other days go out for a 45 minute walk or so.

On those 4 days, strength training should be your main priority.

Something like this works A LOT better than 60 minute cardio sessions.

Directions: Perform Each Exercise As Prescribed And Repeat Until All Sets Are Done. Rest 60 Seconds At The End Of Each Circuit. Use Your Max For Each Exercise. For Example: Dumbbell Squats... use the heaviest weight possible to do 9 reps but do it for 8 reps as prescribed.

Modified Pushups 3 X As Much As Possible
    Dumbbell Squats 3 X 8
    Dumbbell Push Press 3 X 5
    Dumbbell Bent Over Rows 3 X 6
    Dumbbell Reverse Lunges 3 X 8
Thank you for the input on what I should be doing; However I do have a trainer and he's said doing the hoist circuit and the treadmill right now are what's best for me. The hoist circuit allows me to work on my arms (building strength) and my legs (building muscle) and the treadmill is great cardio for me. I ran last night for the first time in about 20 years. Next month he will tweak my workout routine and who knows what will happen from there!!!
  • Thank you everyone for your kind words of encouragement. I won't be giving up EVER and do need to keep reminding myself that the scale will not always tell me what I want it to and that's ok. I guess I just needed to know that I wasn't failing already. Tomorrow morning is my weekly weigh in. I'll be sure to come back and tell you all what it said.

Well it's time to get ready for the gym, see you all tomorrow.

  • Well I went and did my weigh in this morning and I lost 4 lbs this past week Which brings me to a total of 9 lbs since I started the gym and a total of 13 lbs since Jan. 1st of this year

    So I guess I wasn't really
stuck after all. Just seems I had a bad week and was assuming I was going to have another bad week. Thank you everyone for all your input and advice.
  • That's awesome!! You were worried for nothing
