Being on the road and weight gain.

  • I'm feeling a little down-hearted today
I was on the road this weekend gigging and I was determined to stay on plan for the 3 days. Before I left on Friday, I was down to 135lbs, which spurred me on even more to stay on plan. Friday was good, I ate well and drank my usual amount of water. Saturday started off really well, I maybe didn't drink quite as much water as I usually do but my food was ok... Then we had a band meal after the gig at a Chinese restaurant. I had a couple of spring rolls, and little nibbles, then had some crispy duck pancakes, washed down with 3/4 a bottle of white wine...oops. Then Sunday I was right back on plan again! Yesterday I was back in the gym too.
But today, my weight is up to 136.8!! WHY?? I had one off plan meal. If this happens after one meal, what's going to happen when I'm in maintenance? Why has one meal caused a 2lb weight gain? I don't get it Any help or encouragment would be greatly appreciated xx
  • Chinese food is famous for sodium. (Just because it might not taste salty doesn't mean there isn't a ton of sodium.) It is probably water weight. Give it a couple days.
  • Sodium...plus the alcohol bloat. You should pee it off by end of week if you stay on plan.
  • Are you touring in a band? How cool!
  • It's totally sodium from the Chinese food!

It is loaded with salt. I not only can tell the difference the day after I eat it on the scale, but I would would notice a difference in my running. The day after Chinese food I would feel a little more short of breath running the same 2 miles.
  • JanieJones, I was doing a gig with a band called Echo and the Bunnymen! It was just a one off gig this weekend but doing a full tour in September!
Weighed this morning and WOOP the scale is back down to 135.4 Don't think I'll be touching chinese food again any time soon!
  • hey I remember that band! I enjoyed them back in the day, are they gonna tour again? I'm gonna google
  • That's the band that did the song for Donny Darko if I recall so that's pretty neat. Alcohol is not your friend, not only will it cause you to gain weight but it will effect your judgement and cause you to eat stuff you normally wouldn't. I know musicians are huge on marijuana and alcohol but both of those are very likely to cause binging. Try and avoid them when you can.
  • Yeah they are doing a UK tour in September. Quite excited about that! I'd like to point out I dont smoke weed, I'm not your typical rock n roll musician! I play in a string quartet!
