I've been planning on putting my daughter up on my back and trying to move around once I lost as much as she weighs. I kept forgetting about it, but last night I finally did it -- even though now I've lost MORE than she weighs (she's ~75 lbs)!
Of course the weight was distributed a little differently as I didn't carry it ALL in my back! But it really did illustrate how HEAVY I felt, lumbering around, not graceful at all, totally out of breath after climbing the stairs, wanting to just sit down and do NOTHING extra. It reminded me (which I had blissfully forgotten) how hard it used to be for me to get up off one of our couches (it's kinda low) and just in general how hard everything was!
I still have almost 2 of her left to lose! But this really helped me to appreciate how far I've come already -- and it REALLY made me excited to wonder how I'll feel after the next one (and 2) of her comes off!
I do that too! I have four children and I've said "I've lost a 4 year old" or "I've lost a 6 year old" when I reached their weight. I've now lost enough weight that I've lost my eldest daughter who is 8. I can't even imagine carrying her around...
Great job on the weight loss, btw!! That's amazing!!
When I realized that I had lost the weight of two of my children combined (age 5 & 1), it was a big turning point for me. I'd tried to carry them both before when it was raining and there were puddles everywhere and I struggled SO hard...how was I doing that every day?! And now I've lost my 5 year old, my 1 year old, and ANOTHER 5 year old child. CRAZY.
Awesome!! I think about that too - I've lost 4 of my 1 year old! It's just nuts when you think about it - i mean like you said obviously the weight is distributed evenly...but it's still there. And we were living with it - and now it's gone...phew.
I finally match my nine year old. I have really big kids! He's a head and shoulders taller than everyone in his class. This weekend I plan to put him on my back and take a picture on the scale. I've been wanting to do this since I started, and I think he only weighed 75 pounds back then! The kid grows like a weed.
Two days ago I picked up and carried my 56 pound dog into the shower so I could bathe her. (she's super easy to bathe, but she won't willingly get in herself, haha) I totally thought to myself as I lugged her through the bathroom, "soon I will have lost this much weight!"
That is so awesome, and what a great way to put things into perspective. What a great accomplishment!
My "perspective" is those 40 pound bags of salt you get for your water softener. I can barely pick them up and it's hard for me to fathom that I was once carrying 2 of those around.
GREAT POST Shannon - and congratulations to all of you who have lost so much! And by the way -your new picture looks terrific -really see how far you've come...
I've lost 13 lbs. and although I still have a long way to go, I feel more agile and "walk friendly" and able to walk, talk and breathe w/o huffing and puffing - a small but important mission accomplished! L.
I would have to carry my 70 lb 10 year old, my 35 lb 5 year old, and a 10 lb sack of potatoes. I don't think I can do that . I have no idea how I managed before!
It's interesting to put our weight loss into that kind of perspective. I always think about how many 5 pound bags of flour or sugar I've lost when I pick up one of those at the store. Also when I wear my 10 pound weighted vest while exercising.
