Terrified to eat! Please help!!!

  • Warning, this thread involves some TMI including puking and pooping. You've been warned!

I had the WORST night ever last night. It started with an innocent tummy ache, then there was constipation, then throwing up, then throwing up and liquid diarrhea. It was a fantastically grotesque night.

WHY did this happen? I ate the same things yesterday that I ate for the last 7 days. (Why does this never happen when I say 'screw it' to healthy foods and just eat junk? It's not fair.)

    Here's what I ate:

    Chicken Breast
    Veggies (rice, carrots, green beans)
    Turkey & Gravy
    Orange
    Yogurt
    Chocolate Chips
    2 100 Calorie Snacks

My protein has improved DRAMATICALLY; from less than 50g per day, to 100g. Perhaps this is just too much protein for my body to handle. Maybe I'm not getting enough fiber--but I've never had to worry about getting enough fiber when I ate crap. This is the FIRST time this has ever happened to me since I was a young child... heck, it's the first time ever.

I'm terrified to eat now. I feel better this morning, but still a little "plugged up" down there. There's too many factors and I'm so scared.

On the "plus" side, I was a lot lighter this morning... but I don't know if I should count it or not.
  • I don't have any advice, but the same thing happened to me on my third day of Medifast last week. I don't know if it was an unrelated bug or my body going crazy because of the shock, but I think sometimes that just happens inexplicably!
  • Actually, that sounds an awful lot like the nasty flu thats going around right now... I really don't think it has anything to do with what you ate, I think you're just sick... take in fluids if you can, rest, and maybe see the doc... I was warned about this at a meeting discussing my placement in a preschool placement... ick. I hope you feel better soon.
  • PP is right. Sounds like you had a GI virus (gastrointestinal). You're lighter because there's nothing left in you're digestive system (yes we can carry around X amount of weight in digested food we havent pooped out yet) and you're are likely a bit dehydrated.

Focus on fluids today. Water, maybe some juice if you can.

And trust me, after liquid diarrhea you are not still stopped up! It all came out, unless you had some type of bowel obstruction, which I HIGHLY doubt.
  • I agree with above. Also just a quick question, you said youve been eating the same thing for 7 days and the first thing that popped in my head is it all from the same batch of cooking? Maybe something has gone bad.

(I only thought of that because I do my cooking in batches for the week.)
  • If it doesn't clear up in a day, see your doctor. Drink something like Gatorade (the kind without a lot of sugar) or V-8 juice, too.

  • You probably got sick from a cold or flu. Also eating healthier can often change your digestion tract sometimes, but usually you won't have this kind of effect so probably safe to assume it's a cold or flu bug that hit you.

On another note, more fiber can help your digestion, you can get a lot of this via a tasty, and healthy way with Frosted Shredded wheat and it's variants. One bowl at 190 calories and 24% of your daily recommended fiber can help you feel not only full for longer, but is also supposed to help you digest your foods better.
  • On another note, always count your lightest weight as your weight, because it is. When you get rid of the waste in your body and undigested food your left with just you. Generally speaking.
  • Sadly, more than a crumb or two of chocolate does that to me now. I had a really, Really bad night over Christmas.....

Once things have stopped exploding out of every orifice I find
a piece of dry, cold toast, nibbled helps - if I eat nothing, then I get a rolling stomach, which doesn't help with the rolling of the throwing up and .....stuff
very tiny bits of something salty, like potato chips and something sweet but not the evil chocolate - helps to balance the system out, after it's been drained of almost everything
    and
small sips of tepid water during and after the Episode

The above always works as a way back into normal eating again for me, whether it's a bug or just the food I ate.

    feel better soon!
  • I agree with some of the others. It sounds like you caught what's been going around.
  • Yeah, I gotta agree with the others about the flu. Eeeeeveryone I know has it. I'm like a solitary island of health at the moment but I suspect it'll soon be my turn. Drink looooots of liquids and eat foods that are easy on your stomach! It can be discouraging when this sort of thing happens right after you start a healthier eating plan, but trust me, when you get better, this will be less likely to happen again if you keep treating your body to wonderful, nutritious foods.
  • I scrolled through to see if anyone else has mentioned it and didn't see it, but if they did I'm sorry - was the chicken breast cooked fresh? If so was it fully cooked? If not, was it thoroughly reheated/not over a few days old? Could have been a touch of salmonella - food poisoning.

Try to eat something bland if you're afraid of throwing up again...I know it may not fit in with your plan, but dry toast or crackers or something if you're still feeling not that great...

    Hope you feel better soon
