Wearing smaller pants, but....

  • This is a weird one!

Has anyone else found their pants now too baggy to wear and look nice in? Have you then went out and purchased at least one pair that fit right?

When I wear my old pants that are now baggy and saggy, I feel so slender and great. But when I put on the smaller pants (which I'm very proud of) and they fit just like they're supposed to... I feel so plain. In the mirror, I feel like I look like I did when I first started, unlike when I wear those frumpy pants. I feel like my effort can't be seen, and to a tiny degree, that progress never happened. It's so weird!

    Anyone else?
  • I definitely understand that feeling. At my highest weight I wore a size 22. Now I am wearing 16/18. But at my size, it's tough to really tell a difference, even after 30 pounds. I'm still the size of an elephant. Someday though, I'll be able to tell a difference when I look I look in the mirror.

I did keep one pair of my size 22 pants and when I put them on now, they fall to the ground. It's a great reminder for me how far I've come, even if I can't see it when I look in the mirror.
  • Ugh, I just did this. I finally gave up my 13s for 10s and feel frumpy again. I feel like my but looks just as big in them as before and that I can't claim weight loss to my co-workers when everything fits. Crazy negative perceptions.
  • Yes! I just did that when I bought a bunch of pants in size 10 because the 12s and 14s were looking really awful.

I know I'm obviously looking better, because the clothes FIT, but it does feel like there hasn't been a lot of progress!

    It's terrible!!!!!

Time to rethink how we judge progress.
  • I am not too happy when I see how much more weight I have to lose when I finally squeeze into a smaller size.
And I don't like the way my baggy clothes look either.

I tossed out my baggiest clothes.
Now my smaller slacks are starting to hang funny and loose. And some of my favorite sweaters are sooo ill fitting and way too large.
I think I look frumpy in the baggy clothes. And none of my friends notice how much weight I have lost. I lost almost 30 pounds last year.

I thought I looked great when I first squeezed into the smaller size.
    Strange isn't it..

But I still look forward to fitting into the smaller clothes I have packed away in boxes. And I am happy I decided to lose the weight and stick with it until 2012.
  • Heh, yeah, I have a few 14s that are legitimately falling off me, but I still wear them! Of course, I have other 14s that fit like a glove. And a pair of 10s that allllmost fit. Sizes are stupid.

I promise you there's a difference, even if you can't always see it yourself; you've done an amazing job!
  • I hear ya.......I feel the same way, at my heaviest I was wearing 10's then they got loose so I went to a 8 and now a 4 depending on the fit but yes when I wear my new jeans I feel like I have lost no weight....
    weird I know....
  • One of my big rules is to NOT wear clothes that are too big because I think it makes me complacent.
  • I have a friend that has lost a bunch of weight, probably 60 pounds or so. She wears her big old baggy stuff all the time and besides her face you can't tell she lost much of anything.

She was telling me one day, (in a complaining sort of way) that the girls at her work had told her she needed to go buy new clothes because she looked frumpy in the baggies. I practically shouted, "YOU DO!!! She finally broke down and bought her a pair of jeans that FIT and I swear she looks like she lost 100 pounds over night. The difference is AMAZING!

Wear clothes that fit, (Even if you have to purchase them from thrift shops or the dollar store) and it a great motivator. Also, if I put on jeans that fit a little loose I am MUCH more likely to over eat because there is room to expand!

Every big eating holiday/event I put on my most form fitting clothes. Keeps me from having that extra piece most of the time.
  • I have smaller pants on today for the first time. I think they look amazing, about a million times better than the baggy ones. I actually have a butt in these!

I agree! I do not like feeling frumpy!
  • Me! I feel small when I wear the only pair of 12s that semi fit, because they get baggy with the slightest bit of wear; I know I look frumpy, and I don't like it, but I DO like feeling smaller. Because whenever I wear pants that actually fit, I feel huge. I wear them anyway, but yeah, I feel like I've regained 15lbs.
