Default Today went fairly well

So ever since I got a Ninja blender for Christmas I have been on a healthy smoothie kick. I have been having smoothies as meal replacements for both breakfast and lunch. They usually fill be up pretty well since I put protein powder in my lunch smoothie. Today I had my smoothies and worked out on the eliptical for 30 minutes. It said I burned 400 calories, hopefully that's about right. Around dinner my daughter and I went over to my MIL. My SIL made chicken alfredo and I so badly wanted to eat it. It didn't even look that appealing, but I only had smoothies and a string cheese today so it looked amazing. I admit, I took like 3 dry little noodles and a piece of chicken, but knew if I had a plate I would totally regret it. Not to mention I had no idea the calories or fat content, really. When we got home around 8:30 I was starving. I had an apple. That didn't fill me up so I had chips and salsa. Luckily I was smart enough to count out my serving sizes and stopped in time. I am not too proud for having the chips, but I am just glad I didn't have the alfredo!

Self control is a huge step for beginners. You did, I think, amazing. I wouldn't have turned up the Alfredo - no way! And the fact that you feel bad for the few salsa and chips you had is admirable. It's okay to have a little something here and there. You earn it by dieting and working out. Keep it up

Hi there - I'm a newbie, this is my first post. Have been browsing threads looking for 50-somethings, but havn't hit on it yet! Still, I have to say I read the bit about the Chicken Alfredo and had to commiserate. I've yet to learn to effectively talk to myself when faced with temptation (sweets are my downfall, Haagendazs, the occasion salty snack) - and I do well keeping that sort of thing out of my home, but at the office (January 2nd, there was a HUGE tray of bagels and muffins etc), or at the house where I have a part-time job as a personal chef, there are often sweets around! Cheesh. It's hard. But, yesterday - after losing FIVE POUNDS since New Year's Eve (by just stepping up my walking, and eliminating sugar, icecream and salt), I found myself deliberately driving through MACDONALDs and eating a large fries!! I mean, what IS that? You can't even call it mindless eating! I literally made a conscious decision (though unconcious, if you understand me) to DO it! I should know better by now. But, this is my goal - to find the "language" to talk myself out of such idiocy!

my husband brought home taco bell last night for dinner. glad i am not a huge fan or it really would have sucked. I was actually proud of my self control yesterday there was donuts at work and i didnt have one!! i do believe u should allow yourself some of the unhealthy good stuff once in awhile i personalyl thing if you dont then you end up falling off your diet easier. Also it is good though you counted your servings and stopped!
