ugh what the...??

  • Ok, Friday morning, I woke up and my weight was 136. My goal was to get under 135 by the end of next week (12/17). TELL ME WHY I WEIGHT 140 THIS MORNING:

Friday: Stayed on plan (1400 cals), did an aerobics class for 1 hour
Saturday: did two intense classes at the gym - 1 hour of Zumba, 1 hour of free weights class; Saturday night i had a coworkers holiday party, i know i went off plan (had some chocolate covered strawberries, peanuts, and brie cheese, plus two glasses of wine at the party), so my daily calorie intake for the day that I calculated was 2,500.
Sunday: Went to a large brunch with a friend, had an apple and two hardboiled eggs for dinner, daily calorie intake: 2000; Went to a 90 minute Bikram (hot) yoga class
Monday: Stayed on plan (1500), went to an intense hour long aerobics and strength training class, ran 3 miles on the treadmill at 6.2 mph; walked 2.5 miles home
Tuesday: Stayed 100% on plan, did not go to the gym as my body felt a bit rundown - I then realized I had been to the gym and working out for at least an hour and a half everyday for the past 8 days without taking a break. I did, however, walk the 2.5 miles home from work.

Monday I weighed in at 137.5. Usually, after a weekend of overdoing it, i'll obviously be up Monday morning (as I was) then by Wednesday (if i've been eating clean, which i have) i'll be back down to pre-wknd weight. So imagine my surprise when i saw 140 this morning!!!! WTF?!! I didn't expect to lose but to go up 3 lbs!?

I suppose I could up my water intake, but i wouldn't say i'm dehydrated. I don't know if TOM is coming up b/c I haven't had TOM in 4 months (i've been to the dr. about this, he thinks its a combo of stress and my body readjusting to lower weight, all tests were normal).

    Seriously though, what's wrong?!?
  • I don't think anything's wrong.

The scale is It goes up and down for reasons we cannot fathom. Sometimes I think it's trying to make me go off plan and give up!

So, looks like you're doing some good stuff. Use the scale as a tool, but don't give it too much power. I bet in a few days it will be back down!
  • Nothing's wrong. Bodies are weird.
  • Alexandra - you are not alone in this aggravation, believe me! Just stay on plan. Sometimes restaurant food is loaded with sodium, and you can easily gain 3 pounds of water weight....Wait a few days and see what happens.
  • I'll fluctuate sometimes 4 or 5 pounds from one day to another....like Sunday I weighed 143, and by Monday I was 138. I didn't GAIN 3-5 pounds, and I sure didn't LOSE 3-5 overnight either. Sometimes it just happens...I'd say keep plugging along and don't stress!
  • Just looking at the exercise program you posted, I'd guess that your muscles are in the process of repairing themselves and retaining water to do so. Do some gentle stretching and drink LOTS of water to give them the things they need to heal and see if that helps.

That, and sometimes bodies just suck
  • It could be anything.... water retention, TOM, constipation, extra water due to sodium in your food... you name it. Like previous posts, the scale is a tool, but don't let it crush your motivation. Just keep on plan and those pounds may be gone by tomorrow or the next. The key indicator of progress is your measurements/fit of your clothes and your weight tend over a longer period of time. I have to keep reminding myself of this because when I think I'm doing well and then the scale does this to me, then I get all discouraged, go off plan, and then I really do gain weight. However, the few times I have been about to ignore the frustration and stick to my plan, I have been rewarded with a drop in the scale again.
  • ugh, well weight in this morning: 138. Down two lbs from yesterday morning. Better, but not the 135 I saw last Friday, and i KNOW i did not gain 3 lbs in two days lat wknd..

Just trying to keep my head down and keep chugging along, I'm reallyyy trying to focus on the positives though (i.e. my legs are looking more toned!) and I ran 5.5 miles last night so hopefully it's also my legs retaining some water...

Thanks for all of your responses yesterday!! You really made me feel not so alone
