Is it possible?
Hello, I'm fairly new to the community and just wanted to ask a few questions about weight loss.
I'm 22 years old and weigh approx. 280 pounds. I'm currently on WW, (have been for about a week) and I walk/fast walk on the treadmill for about 20 minutes twice a day. Would it be possible to lose about 100 pounds in a year or less by continuing the diet and walking/running? Is there anyone who has lost 100 pounds in a year or less? |
It is possible, but don't let it discourage you if you lose slower than you hoped. I certainly get frustrated at times with how slow my progress has been and I know I could do a lot better. But losing slowly is a **** of a lot better than not at all!
Good luck, and :welcome: |

I agree with Aclai, it is probably doable, but patience is the big key. Ive been on Weight Watchers for 7 1/2 months so far and have lost just short of 40 pounds, so that's just a little more than 5 pounds per month. My original goal was 10 pounds per month... but it didn't happen and I'm still FINE with that.
The way I feel now is amazing and slow and steady is the way to go. So try for the 100, but don't be discouraged if you have a little longer to goal till goal. You can do it!!!!! This is an exciting time in your life. Your world is about to change in more ways than you can even imagine. |
Also, you CAN lose weight by walking. Keep up the great work, and if you are feeling stronger and want to do more cardio and weightlifting go for it, but like I said before, walking is still great and def. not a waste of your time.

I did it :)
The main thing is consistency and commitment. If you're really serious about this, you can make no excuses! Good luck!! |
I've lost 60 pounds in just over 3 months. But I started out at 342, so weight loss was faster for me (the more you weigh, the more calories you burn doing well, anything, lol)...and I do 20-30 minutes on the stationary bicycle 4 or 5 days a week (biking burns more calories than walking and less stress on the joints), plus I go for walks when I can, and I keep my calories between 1200-1500 a day. And I completely expect to lose another 40 by the new year. But that's just me. Good luck!

The more weight you have to lose, the faster you lose it. If you lose fast and it slows down don't give up. On average, a person can lose 2lbs a week in a healthy way. You could lose a lot more than that in the beginning. YOU CAN DO IT if you work hard enough. You will know when your body is strong enough to step up your activity.

Yes you can! Keep exercising, that will make a world of difference. My friend lost 100 lbs in 10 months. It is doable and a lot of work but oh so worth it. YOU CAN DO IT!!

Exercise burns calories and will help you lose weight. The reason why people say it isn't any good is that if all you do is exercise and do not pay close attention to diet, you'll eat more because you are more hungry, which cancels out the benefit (in terms of weight loss. It still helps your health).
Starting at 280 at 22, 100 lbs a year is quite doable. You just have to stick with it, even on those days when you have no motivation. But if you do that, it's impossible to fail. Eat less/move more and your body will burn its fat stores. |
WELCOME!! Yes, it certainly is possible. But you may find that as you lose you need to increase exercise a bit and decrease food a bit. I started out around 300 pounds and lost 100 pounds in 55 weeks. The key really is consistency!

At your age, as long as you are consistently on plan, it is certainly possible.

First off I would like to :welcome3: you to 3FC!
Yes it is possible I lost 80 pounds in 7 months I started in January...... I have around 40 pounds left and 4 months left in the year. So you are going to get a YES  from me! I do think you can do it. :D |
A couple of years ago I went from 250lbs down to 190lbs by altering my diet and just walking. I eventually stalled and I think it's because at some point you have to change it up and increase intensity but for now power walking is perfectly adequate IMHO.
