Thumbs up My Plan To Encourage Others

So... I got inspired from another thread.
The thread made me sad.
Then mad.
NOW, PRODUCTIVE!

I decided I'm gonna start letting people know they're doing awesome when I see them out getting exercise. Starting tomorrow at Back Cove Trail in Portland, Maine (Where I do my daily 3.5 miles when I'm at home), I'm going to tell everyone I see on the trail that they're doing a good job and stuff like that. My walking buddy said she'd help me.

They're prolly gonna think we're INSANE, but I don't care.

I always WANT to tell people they're awesome...

In fact, one day I tried. But it went like this:
A lady who was a bit bigger than my friend and I was walking REALLY fast, and passed us twice. When she came by that second time, I gave a thumbs up and said "Damn you're FAST!"
She gave me a half-smile-but-confused sorta look...
Then I realized she had earphones on.
Then I wondered if she thought I'd said "Damn, you're FAT!"
GAWD I HOPE NOT.... But it mighta been that.

SO... I'll obviously have to word things so people won't think I'm being mean if they have headphones. Won't use the word "fast" ever again!

I'm not gonna single out "bigger" people, either. EVERYONE on that trail is gonna hear nice things from me tomorrow!!

Anyone else wanna join me in doing this??

I don't see many people when I go out running, but I'm pretty sure from now on I'm going to make an effort to give words of encouragement to anyone I *do* happen to pass by. Maybe even if they're just watering their lawn.

I love this. Good for you for reaching out.

Isn't it amazing what a random bit of posting on the internet can do for ya?

Sometimes we just want to rant or mull over our thoughts ... but who knows who will read it and benefit.

Thanks for the positivity, m3rma1d! Or should I address you by your TBC title, neo maxi zoom dweebie? When I go jogging tomorrow, I'm going to do the same. Anarchy!

oh this goes along with one of my favorite verses "With the comfort you have been comforted, you will comfort others!"

i think it is great, I don't see many people during my exercise routine, but if I do start going back to the Y. I won't be so shy to encourage others.

You are AWESOME, m3rma1d!!! Anarchy, indeed.

I don't see anyone else exercising when I'm out running (Small town? Sedentary fat people? ) but I would so be doing this if I did!

m3rma1d: You rock! I exercise at home & when I go to the pool at night it's myself, my son, the land crabs ((that jump in the pool after we do...seriously!!)) & the palm trees lol...or I would too! I've already blown my sons ego up to the size of the universe...have to chill on that a bit so there's some room in the universe for the rest of us!!

That is just too funny!! Sounds like something I'd do!

Everyone on my walking path says "hello" to one another and I've noticed runners wink to other runners or give a hand gesture of sorts.
