Superskinny, Thin, Voluptuous or Heavy Set??
I'm always fascinated by people with the same height but vastly different goal weights.
I find it interesting how different people can be when it comes to their preferred body size. For example, I don't think "superskinny" is the body type for me. I think at 5'8" I'd look sickly at anything less than a size 8 (it's a very personal thing, though...this is just my preference). Also, I kinda like being thin but having thighs and booty...oh, and my eternal DDD boobs. :o Currently I believe I'm thin with nice girlie parts. :o ...even though these girlie parts are a lot smaller. Someone actually called my butt "tiny". I loved that! If I'm honest I think a big part of my goal was obtaining a cute butt. lol! My size 18 butt was NOT cute. It's cute at a size 10, tho. What's also interesting is how frame size plays into this whole thing. I mean, 2 people could have the same height with different goals weights but both are trying to be superskinny or thin or whatever. Maybe I'm the only one who finds this stuff interesting. lol! But, I have to admit that in the beginning I sometimes second guessed my own goal when I saw ladies at my height having goal weights well beneath mine. I always had to remind myself that we're not looking for the same body size. Anyone else have these thoughts? At your goal are you interested in being superskinny, thin, sort of voluptuous or heavy-set? |
im currentley 5'6 220 and a size 16 i think i look chunky right now not grossly fat but def no where near fit so im chunky further proof to me is that im currently in size limbo alot of stores cut off at 14 and plus size 16 somehow fits diffrent than size 16 in regular stores so very few stores cater to my size right now ( which hopefully ill be out of this soon anyways im just glad to not be in plus size stores anymore ! )
but i too am amazed at how different our goals are considering were all starting out in such a familiar place .... id like to maintatin a curvy physic my lowest adult weight was a size 9/10 at about a 155 lbs it wasnt perfect but it was my happy size im aiming for that again ... skinny is not in the cards for me |
first, Cali Doll, you look FANTASTIC!! Congrats!
Second, it's so hard to figure out which bodies fit what size clothes. I'm not even close to a size 16 yet I'm only 5 lbs more than Chunkey Monkey and I'm an inch taller. So people can definitely be the same size but have very different bodies, and what looks good on one 5'8" person at 160 might leave someone else looking too skinny or too big. Personally, I'm not aiming for "skinny" but I'm an apple, or really more of an inverted triangle, with broad shoulders and rib cage, big boobs and thick waist. So if get down to a 14 in tops, I'm likely to be an 8 or so in pants. I'm currently in 2X shirts and even a 3X in some still fit just fine. But in pants, I'm a misses 18/XL, but they have to be stretchy so they'll fit around the waist without being miles too big in the hips and butt. I expect to have a similar size differential even when wearing much smaller sizes. |
I plan on being curvy at my goal weight, I'm an hour glass(possibly a pear) and I just don't see my curves ever going away. I'm OK with that as long as everything gets smaller and I'm as healthy as I can be, I'm cool!
|
I'm definitely aiming for voluptuous *spelling*...my husband loves me thick, and I think he'd be a tad bit depressed if I got "skinny"...plus, I love my curves! My hips, butt and boobs are all very womanly, very attractive to me...its the thighs and stomach I don't like and want to be rid of...
|
Peanutsmom704, thank you!!!!!!!!!!
It's interesting reading everyone's thoughts and opinions. Mystyblue85, I also like feeling voluptuous...but skinny at the same time. :P Having a small waist is important to me (I'm NOT a fan of muffin tops on me). I like having thighs but I also like the diamond/star between my thighs. I think I'm kind of particular and weird and quirky about this whole thing. :-). |
Cali-- I LOVE your pix. You look so slim! We're the same height, and I always used to weigh around 160 before I got fat. I thought I looked fat then, but that's because I was messed up.
I am astonished that people our height will weigh 130 or so. I think they look good, but I think I have too big a frame to weigh that much. |
ubergirl, I KNOW!! There's no way my frame can see 130 anything!
...and thank you for the compliment!! |
With 10-15 pounds more, I'd be voluptuous. 10-15 pounds less, I'd be thin. I like being in-between.
|
I'm five two and a size 18/20. Its my goal to be around a 12 and about 150 pounds give ot take. Any smaller than that and I would also look sickly skinny. I might be 200 pounds right now but I look like I weigh MUCH less than I actually weigh. When I was 130 pounds my face was so sunkin in and hollow it was terrible, much less when I was 92 pounds (that was when I was 18, I'm 33 now).
So I'd rather be 150 pounds, a size 12, healthy, and work towards acheiving a toned body instead of a skinny one. |
My goal is to look healthy. I don't know what size that might be achieved on my frame or how much loss it will require. I do think that my goal of 150 will be revised once I get out of the 200s. I just picked it arbitrarily because it was half my starting weight and within the normal BMI range. Being very large framed and naturally well muscled, I suspect 150 would have me looking sickly.
|
I'm getting so toned that I'm a full 10 lbs. heavier at the same size than I was before. In another month of working out and another ~5 lbs., I'll be a size 10, and solid! My goal is to look slender. Because of how I carry my weight, I'll probably be an 8 at 155 lbs., which seems like a lot of weight for 5'4" and is 15 lbs. more than I was when I was an 8 before and was flabby and not toned. Hooray for muscle!
|
I am 5'8" and my goal weight is an ambitious 135 (though I'd be happy at a bit higher than that). That is because I have a small frame, and I am not curvy at all. The lack of curves means that I have a rather thick waist in proportion, so to fit into some of my favorite size 8 clothes I need to get down to that. The waist is always the first thing to get tight on any of my clothes.
I weighed 135 about 10 years ago, and I was happy with how things fit me then. |
I am also 5'9". I started at 270. I put 165 because I was afraid to put any lower but they say I will be "in heathy range". I have become obsessed with trying to find out what I will look like. Heck I haven't seen under 200 since jr. high.
BTW Cali Doll you look smoking hot! LOL |
I'd love to be voluptuous, but I'm very apple shaped. I think the only way to get rid of my perpetually pregnant-looking tummy (I've never even BEEN pregnant) is going to require sacrificing a portion of my 'girly parts.' My butt actually has stayed pretty nice and curvy through my weight loss so far, but the boobs have seen some unfortunate shrinkage.
I'd like to at least get my belly small enough to allow me to shop for pants in the juniors department. Regular pants are shaped all wrong for my height, and the petite stores have a limited selection. |
I'm 5'9" and my goal right now is to be around 140. The lowest I ever remember being was 158 (for about a day) and I wore a size 10.
|
My goal is 138 because that's the last weight I can remember maintaining. I was 18 at the time so if it's more like 148 (considering I'm almost 31 and I've had a child) then I think I'll be happy with that. I want to be a size at least a size 10, but probably more like an 8, but we'll see, because I'm a snug 12 right now and I'm pretty happy here and i'm still gettng used to how 12 feels mentally. So we'll see where I end up.
|
I'm going for voluptuous. At 5'8" that means a BMI at the top end of 24.9, which is 74kg or 163lb. I'll be ecstatic if I get to this. Only 14kg to go...
|
Since I'm barely 5'1" I'm going for slender...which I'm guessing for me will be around the 110-115lb mark. Given that I've not been that weight since I was 10 years old it will be interesting to see if I ever get there! The lowest I've been in my adult life is 158lbs. (I am nothing if not an optimist :dizzy:)
Starting out, I thought I'd be happy at 132lbs (BMI of 24.9)...but having studied (at length!!! :D:D) the pictures of the 5'1" ladies on My Body Gallery I've come to the conclusion that at 132lbs I'll still look noticeably overweight...I want to look like woman no. 16! |
gardendiva, I understand the thick waist thing. I'm sure you'll be able to reach your goal! :-)
mmiller2829, I haven't seen below 200 since that time, too. I couldn't even fathom it really. You'll get there! ...and you'll look fab. I love being tall! :-) ...thanks for the compliment! |
Voluptuous all the way, baby!
I'm always going to be curvy, and I wouldn't trade that for anything - I just want smaller, healther curves :carrot: :):):):):) |
I'm glad that the diamond between the legs was brought up. Really, that is one of my biggest goals in loosing the weight. There's something about it that I find sexy :oand I'd love to have it too! :D
|
Yes, I always check out other posters' height and weight just for comparison, even though I am not really comparing myself to anybody. Everybody has a different body type and that has a lot to do with the final results.
Myself, I don't plan on being in any of those categories you mentioned - I want to have well defined muscles and body fat at 19% or possibly evn a smidge lower. P.S. Cali, I forgot to add that you look fantastic! |
People also wear their clothes differently. I know I wear mine a little too loose, and by my standards (which are probably a bit warped) some people wear their clothes very, very tight. Also, I think many people wear their clothes tighter as they lose weight, and that process happens at a different rate for different people.
Furthermore, some people say their size is the biggest size in their closet (pessimists!), some say the most common size in their closet (realists!), and some say the smallest size (optimists!) Therefore, it would be quite possible to have two people of the exact same height, weight, body shape, everything, and have one tell you she wears a 22 and the other a 16. |
Thanks Tomato! :-)
I agree in that being toned is high on my list, too. I love the way my shoulders and arms look. It feels good to be rewarded after so many long hours of weight lifting. I've got to get back to my side planks. I was doing 40 (20 each side) a day for a long while. I'm obsessed with working my obliques. |
Voluptuous, curvy, and super skinny are all a physical impossibility for my body shape and build. I didn't have curves when I was fat and I don't now! My barely B cups and no hips or rear or waist are decidedly UNvoluptuous and UNcurvy. And I was a B at my highest weight too. As a 6 ft tall gal with a huge skeletal frame, I would never look super skinny even if I were underweight.
So honestly, the only label I'm going for is "Not fat". Wanting to be anything else is just setting myself up for disappointment. |
I'd love to be skinny. I find thin, androgynous, waif-like bodies in women very attractive. Realistically I'm aiming for thinner and toned with curves tho, as I'm pretty sure my chest and hips aren't about to go anywhere.
|
I am currently 5'5" and 161 lbs and my goal is 132. I've never weighed that in my adult life so I really have no clue how I'll look, I'm hoping to look pretty much the same just smaller and more toned. With my DD chest and wide hips (like 12" bigger than my waist right now) I don't think I'll ever be super skinny but I wouldn't want to anyway. I think I'm shooting for thin but curvy, is that possible? Lol
and Cali you do look fantastic I can't wait to look like that! |

I felt the most healthy and most confident when at 130 on my curvy 5'7" frame -- I have big hips and big thighs (and tiny boobs :( ) but I thought that it looked really great -- not too skinny/thin for me, but not too much extra either. If I drop down to 120-125, that's way too thin for my size.
|
You know, LuckyJules, I grew up wishing I had smaller boobs....pretty much the shape you describe for yourself. LOL!
Now that I'm wearing good bras, I can appreciate my girls much more. But, I wanted to be a "go braless" type of gal... |
I wanna be slender. I don't know what it is, but I love the word "slender" -- maybe it suggests maturity, elegance. I tend to prefer thin to voluptuous in women, generally speaking, so that's what I'm aiming for myself.
|
I am going for curvy/voluptuous. I have an hourglass figure, and I like my shape, I just want it to be smaller! :lol My goal right now is 170, and I'm going to reassess when I get there. I don't actually care what my weight is in the end, as long as I'm toned, not flabby. I have no idea what weight that is, though. When I was in high school I was 160 (freshman year, anyway), and I liked my size at that point but not the flab. So we'll see. You look great, btw!
|
I'm 5'8, about 128 and slender but not at all sickly thin. I often gaze in envy and wonder at those who are the same height, 10, 15, 20 pounds heavier and look amazing. I have a pretty small frame so the pounds really do show on me. I often wish I had more wiggle room but alas!
Btw, Cali, you look unbelievable :) We're the same height and I was about 150a few months ago and looked nowhere near as good as you do in your photos! Aah, aren't our bodies strange and wondrous things? :) |
I'm 5'5" and currently in a loose 12. I'm an hour glass and hope I stay that way at goal. I think I will, I was before I gained the weight.

Hey Cali,
I'm so glad I came across this thread, I have always had a particular interest in what size everyone is at different weights and heights (I started a thread on it on UK Chickies forum, and the differences in what size two people say they are at approx same weight and height is amazing). Anyway, reason I am particularly glad is that so many taller girls have posted here, I am 5'9, and 6lbs away from what I originally set as my goal weight, I am a full inch taller than you, but still battling with feeling fat - if I actually though I looked nearly as good as you do in the pics, then I would stop at this weight! Well done! By the way I am wearing a size 12 (US8) now, but am really hoping that these last 6lbs might take me down to a 10(US6) Anyway, once again, you look great! |
s rosa, Tagan47 and Ellie R thank you for the compliments. I really appreciate it.
And I understand, Ellie, about still feeling fat at/near goal. Last night I was having a severe "I feel fat" night. I kept looking at myself in the mirrors thinking I look gross. *sigh* I feel better this morning but I really hate feeling that way. I even went down to 159 the other day. I haven''t bounced up higher than 161 but last night I felt like I was about 200 lbs. It's unreal how the mind plays tricks. Everyone kept telling me that I look so skinny and I felt like they were teasing me. haha! ...oh, and not to mention the folks who say hi to you and then glance down at your body. It's OK when I'm feeling thin but on an "I feel fat" night, it makes you feel HORRIBLE! |
Its terrible isn't it how the mind works...some days i still feel as fat as I was at 286lbs!!!
Oh and by the way, i would like to be 'thin'with the odd skinny day! i'll never be voluptous anyway, as I don't have a curvy shape |
Just a little personal victory for me--I said on page 1 that I would like to look slender, and last night I saw my boyfriend's family for the first time since Christmas (almost 20 lbs. ago) and his aunt told me I looked slender! :D I feel like I've got a ways to go yet before I think I am, but it was such a high to have someone else tell me that.
|
Congrats Stella!!!! That's fantastic. :-)
