That's fantastic! We are 8 weeks away ourselves.

I would encourage you to continue to eat good nutritious food. While you are not going to be focusing on losing weight, eating good food is great for you and the baby and will make eating right even easier!

Don't go away, we love hearing about the new experiences you will be having. Good luck !

Jinksie - you don't have to postpone your efforts. You can still make the changes (just slowly) and you can walk for exercise while pregnant. There is still TONS you can do to keep your efforts in check. Ask your doctor about it. I'm sure she will have a lot of info and help knowledge for you.

I had a friend who actually lost weight while pregnant. She kept eating healthier and walked about 2 - 3 miles at first, but by the 8th month she was doing 4 - 5 miles a day. And was able to keep if off afterwards because she taught herself how to eat right and kept walking.

Great news!!! and as I am trying (I hear that losing weight can get your hormones working right again) I would love to hear how it goes with the pregnancy!!

Congrats! It always happens with the weight loss, lol!

Congratulations!!!! What wonderful news.

But I agree, this is no time to abandon good eating practices. None whatsoever. Or exercise for that matter.

They say that pregnant woman, starting in their second trimester should add only 300 calories extra per day and that's only if they're a healthy normal weight. Those that are overweight are advised to not gain anything. The old wives tales that you're eating for two is absolutely false. 300 calories of additional healthy foods - that's it and again starting in the second trimester.

As far as exercise, you can continue with whatever you were doing for the most part. And yes walking, swimming, even strength training is very beneficial. Speak with your doc.

Enjoy this time, it's a wonderful experience. :)

Congratulations!! What wonderful news!

And others have already said it. Just eat healthy. Rockinrobin and others have given you very good advice. You're "eating for two" as far as nutrition goes (and make sure you take a prenatal vitamin) but you're not eating for two as far as calories go, so don't make pregnancy an excuse to go wild. There are exercises designed specifically for expectant mothers, and walking is good.

Best wishes to you and your little one.

Jinksie that is great news. Start taking your folic acid if you aren't taking it already, and listen to the good advice from Sam and everyone. Research shows that the problems we overweight women are prone to in pregnancy, (high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and high rate of c-section) are DRASTICALLY reduced by regular exercise and tight diet control to keep overall weight gain at about 15 pounds. So don't plan to lose until after baby is here, but keep up the good habits you have been learning.
best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery

I lost 20 pounds when I was pregnant with my youngest son. I made sure I ate the most nutritious food I could lay my hands on (fish, cheese, vegetables, fruit) and I walked daily. I also went swimming and I drank a lot of water. I made sure I didn't eat crap foods.
