  • Obviously you ladies aren't waiting for New Years to make a resolution to lose weight (since you're already posting here and working on that weight loss) but I'm wondering, does New Years have any significance to you and your goals and making resolutions and that type of thing or is it just another day to you?

Have you made any New Years resolutions? Is the January 1st date significant to any of your milestones?

I was going to make a new years resolution (something I've never done ever!) about getting healthy and losing this weight and then I got so frustrated with myself and my body over the weekend and I thought to myself "what the heck are you waiting for new years for? DO IT NOW!" So I've started today! So while today is my official start I will be considering the start of this new year the beginning of a new me!
  • Great- you've got a jump start. The time to get healthy is NOW! This now. Right now. Don't waste another precious second of your life not striving to be your absolute best.

This IS going to be your year. I can just feel it!! SO exciting.
  • For me today always feels like newyear. The Xmas craziness is over. The guests are going home. The treats are packed up for dh to take to work. (but he forgot)

I dont make new years resolutions because once they are "broken" then what. Start over every day as needed.
  • I'm not planning on making any resolutions myself - I like all of my vices and plan on sticking to 'em - but I do intend to jump on the bandwagon of everyone else's. I don't know if it's the same anywhere else but here in the UK, January is diet season, the TV is full of new diet shows, all of the diet food is reduced, gym membership is always on special offer and no one gives you a hard time for not wanting cake/candy, so I'm planning on giving myself a boost with all of that.
  • I make resolutions, but they aren't weight loss related. For instance this next year I want to not be so cranky at work. I also plan on keeping my home organized.
  • Congrats on getting started NOW - you wont regret it. I don't usually make new year's resolutions, but this year I've made a resolution to stop saying negative things about myself. So while it's not really weight loss or fitness related, it is about getting my MIND healthier.
  • I have never made New Year's Resolutions, but then, I've also never been one to follow the crowd.

I don't need a calendar date to motivate me. It starts now! Not even with breakfast, but now.

But hey, if it takes the New Year rolling around to motivate people, well then great! It's whatever works for YOU. It's all about YOU!
  • I dont really wait for new years to start any of my resolutions, since this endeavor was really a lifestyle change rather than a "diet" I just will live NYE like any other day.
  • I'm going to use the beginning of the new year as a time point for re-vamping my "plan" - I haven't really lost any weight in 6 months!!! so I am trying to figure out what to do differently. I will be thinking a lot about this in the next few days...

I had a goal for 2009 to be able to run 30' at a time. Just achieved yesterday!

So I'm thinking about having another fitness goal for 2010 - be able to run 1 mile in 10 minutes, swim X number of laps, start riding my road bike again, or maybe some kind of weight-lifting goal ...
  • I use New Years as a good excuse to diet, lol. And if I'm on a diet, a NY Resolution kinda helps me keep going. NYE is the time I think about the rest of the year and how I want it to be different than last year.
  • I have almost always made a New Years resolution and I've always broken them. So this year, I'm not going down that path...
  • I already started my diet about a week before Christmas, and even did well during Christmas I think. All the treats I was given on xmas I gave away to other friends or my boyfriend and felt really happy about it. However, the beginning of January represents a new school quarter for me so changes will inevitably come with this so I want to work with them. Work harder at dieting, exercising, and studying.
  • I don't do the New Years Resolution thing. I've never been able to stick with them. For my weight loss, I need to start NOW lol.
  • Last year I used New Years to make commitments to further my new lifestyle. I am doing the same this year. I will continue to simplify in every, way, shape and form known to man. I will be as drama free as possible.
  • It's funny, but I always found the start of the new SCHOOL YEAR to be a good time to get things and projects underway. To start fresh. But I'm sure back in the day I probably did use New YEars as a time to start my weight loss - though it surely didn't last for very long.

These days, having lost the weight, having made a lifetime commitment to good health, when there's something that I need to "resolve" and improve upon, I don't wait for anything. Having made such a commitment and seeing it through, has taught me that there is no time like the present - like now. In order to lose the weight, I had to make and accept NO EXCUSES, so that has forced me as well to not push things off.

LoriBell though has a start date that I will never forget. It's March 4th. As in MARCH FORTH. I think that's a GREAT date. Not that I'd push anything off till then, mind you... but it really stands out.
