I'm new to diet blogging (started a few weeks ago before I found this site) and I find that I'm struggling with what and how much to share. It's more difficult than I thought to share personal details but I feel that my posts would probably be better if I did.
My motivation in starting the blog was to share my stories with others (because a lot of people were asking me) but also to HEAR others stories because that's where I get a lot of motivation.
So for those who read or write blogs: how much do you share? And for readers - what to you most want to hear about?
Hey!...I basically write mostly about my weightloss..and a few general details about my personal life. Some people prefer to go on and on about really personal things and events that are going on in their families...I am a very private person and I don't want to write juicy stuff about friends/family...only my bf knows about my blog and he honestly doesn't care too much about it..I doubt he's ever read it. HOWEVER I do find the most interesting ones to read are ones that include pics/ jokes/quotes and things that make someone want to go back and 'see' how they're doing, etc.
I found for a while that my blogging was getting boring/ repetitive and I gave it a break for a few months.
So as a blogger I LOVE getting feedback from readers...and as a reader....things to keep it interesting!
P.S...Just checkin out your blog..my massage therapist recommends Epsom Salt baths for sore muscles. I had really sore arms/shoulders and chest from a workout Thursday night...two baths and it did wonders...something with the magnesium helps the lactic acid buildup in your muscles.
I blog mainly for my own personal record and thoughts, and if anyone wants to read it, that is fine. But, to answer your question, I do find blogs that include personal details more interesting to read. But, only share what you are comfortable with.
I LOVE blogs, I love to see a snapshot of some one elses life... I don't know why to be honest. (I also love photos) I think the best blogs have the right amount of humor, some personal details and some photos (not necessarily of the person, but things they enjoy). I know that doesn't help... I also feel that blogs should have some positive elements, it can't be rants all the time.
I journal my most intimate details in a book and they never make it to the web. I do blog however, actually my weight loss one is the most personal one. I like to go back and read where I was at and what I was thinking.
Thanks for the feedback guys! This is really helping. I think I need to add some photos to my blog (I have a link to a photo site but none in the actual blog).
I'm also having 2 girls join me who are at different points in their quest to get fit (one who is just starting and one who is trying to lose baby weight while going back to work) which will hopefully be interesting to some as well.
My whole idea when blogging was to hopefully inspire some people and generate some replies/reader stories that will keep me inspired as I go.
Angelanicole: Thanks for the sore muscle advice! That helped!!
wow, you lost 120lbs in a year! congratulations!! I'm sure people will want to read about that.
http://www.dietgirl.org/dietgirl/ you might want to take a look at this site, I thought she had a great balance of personal detail, humor, and the ins and outs of her weight loss journey (eating, exercise, goals, struggles). She's written a book.

I also like personal stuff, but don't feel I do a very good job at writing. I tend to just babble. But whatever... it's an outlet & if people read then GREAT!
Mine has been a huge help to me - as someone else mentioned, I like having the record of the little ups and downs. It helps me take pride in small accomplishments. And writing out my feelings or thought-process helps me understand my thoughts and motivations better - forces me to find clarity and connections for "readers." Plus, it's fun to have people sharing tips and cheering me on!
I have 2 blogs plus a live journal. The 2 blogs, I normally just post diet/weight related things, same as I do here and my live journal is a mix of that plus personal.
Hey! I see you're from Vancouver! I'm really considering moving there next summer; I currently live in Kelowna.
I'm thinking about starting a blog so I can be more accountable for myself and keep track of my exercise/diet routine so I have something to look back on!

Hi SweetScrumptious - Vancouver is a wonderful place to live (although not as quiet as Kelowna!)
I love my blog for keeping me accountable and hopefully others find it interesting - although trying to decide what others like to hear is the tough part. If you do start a blog be sure to post it so we can check it out!
One more question to throw out to you guys...I have two friends who are joining me in the blogging - I thought people reading may find it interesting to hear about 3 of us and how we're doing.
