Is anybody else this tired???

  • So, I'm about two weeks into my weight loss plan - I'm trying to eat a "clean" diet of whole, non-processed foods - mostly fruits and veggies with some lean protein and good carbs mixed in. Also, I've been getting up early to do the 30 Day Shred DVD and have been walking at night. What is getting in my way is that I am absolutely exhausted all day long - I broke down and had a twix bar for a sugar rush yesterday, have been drinking way too much coffee and this morning I slept through my alarm goining off for almost 20 minutes!!! Is it normal to be this tired? Am I overdoing the exercise? Not eating enough carbs/food in general. Has anybody felt this way and/or have any recommendations?????
  • I was SO tired yesterday. I think it is a normal process when our bodies are being changed drastically. I am actually feeling okay today so far. I was tired and irritable all yesterday. I ended up going to bed early to fight any cravings that I had, which was soda.
  • I think you need to alternate your exercise days. Working out twice a day and that too once in the morning and again in the evening doesn't give your body much time to recoup from the workout. If possible, try alternate days where M, W and F you do the 30D shred and Sun, Tues, Thur you do the evening walks. That gives your body time to recoup and you get a Sat off for the muscles to recover.

    Good luck!
  • It can happen that way, it may be something you're about to pass out of.

Do you know how many calories you're having? A whole lot of women post about fatigue and they're eating very low calories, sometimes without even realizing it.
  • I haven't been counting calories but you're right. I do have a tendency to overestimate my calorie count when I'm really focused on it. I think I need to start a food journal and start keeping better track.
  • That's a good idea, Soflachick. Good luck
  • Do you have a tendency towards being anemic? If I'm feeling really tired for a few days in a row, and I mean *really tired* I take an iron pill in addition to my regular vitamin.

I have a (medically diagnosed) tendency towards anemia, and with eating very little red meat, iron-fortified cereals, or iron-fortified bread, I think I can tend to dip too low sometimes.

    Just a thought...
  • i agree on the anemia thing. I WAS a heavy bleeder TOM. And I would get flat out exhausted. Since I don't eat liver, my natural craving for this is oysters 70% iron. One time I ate like 2 cans a day for 4 days. And still tested at 10 for my hemoglobin. I must have been pretty anemic.
  • I was having that problem and although I haven't cut out all processed foods yet, I have this week started cutting out the caffeine. I quit coffee and caffeinated tea...surprisingly I'm starting to have a little more energy perhaps because I'm sleeping better at night. There are always good suggestions here I just thought I'd add one more perspective. I hadn't thought about the anemia either, looks like something to check into. I hope you will keep us posted on what does end up working for you, I hope to follow your path of eating as I get my mind back into a healthy lifestyle mode.
    Good Luck!
  • My routine is similar to yours and the only time I feel that tired is when I haven't eaten enough. It's a big responsibility to take up exercise and you should make sure you're getting the calories you need to do it. I know it's confusing because people say you must "eat less, move more" to lose weight, but the truth is you have to "move more, and eat the right amount for your body" in order to do it healthily.
