Default Setting my mini-goals

Ok, so I am just starting out & I have my main goal set(185 by 10-1-10), but I want to set my mini-goals. I have a couple events coming up, so thats what I am using. Does this seem "do-able"?

-10 by 9-15 (sons first football game- want to at least feel better about myself)
-15 by 11-19 (cruise!)
-10 by Christmas
-15 by Valentines
-25 by 5-24-10 (another cruise!)
-40 by 10-1-10 (30th bday)

Those last 2 are not quite as "mini" as the others, but they are dates that hopefully will help motivate me. I am only focusing on each goal at a time.

I believe this list is doable when you wanna go for it and I love this idea. I will plan my mini goals as soon as I post this message But I am jealous of those cruises!!!! lol and ofcourse your sons first football game how exciting is that! I hope there will be more to feel good about and definitely your son will be proud of you as you will be

GO FOR IT! and enjoy your newly improved body

i also think these are reasonable goals. if i could make one teeny suggestion, id say to be very careful with time limits. my goal was 195 by my birthday, and i ended up all depressed because i was at 196.6 on that day. setting timed goals can make you feel like a failure sometimes. i kept focusing on not meeting the goal in time than the 24 lb i had lost!

Julia took the words right out of my mouth. Would you maybe consider looking at behavior goals like exercise minutes, days on plan, vegetable servings, etc instead? You can absolutely lose the weight but often our bodies don't give up weight according to the calendar and there is not a darn thing you can do about that but you can control your behavior.

Go girl! How great will it feel on the formal night of those cruises to know in your heart that you've been taking great care of yourself and enjoy the fruits of that in your pretty outfit?

I'm with those for whom time-based goals don't work, because I get discouraged when I get close to, but do not meet, the goal...it just gets me down! But if they work for you and you won't get discouraged, go for them!

I think your goal and mini goals are reasonable and realistic. Best of luck to you.

I do think your goals are reasonable, but count me in as one who is leery of time-based goals. If not met, they seem to focus people on what didn't happen, rather than all the great things that did.

As an example, I didn't set weight loss goals, but as I approached a year of my new lifestyle, I realized I was close to losing 100 pounds. I started wondering if I could lose 100 pounds in one year, and it started to bother me when I realized that wasn't going to happen. Can you imagine? I'd completely changed my life and lost over 95 pounds and was feeling sad it wasn't 100??? I lost 100 pounds in 55 weeks and celebrated that, rather than focusing on what I didn't do.

Good luck!!
