Cool My math class is on the 4th floor *gulp*

I may be on the right track, but I am def. still not at the point where I can walk up 4 flights of stairs without losing my breath.

I've gone through every possible way to avoid embarrassment in my head probably 100 times. I could walk up 2 flights, take a bathroom break, then walk up the other 2. Or I could just try to make it up all 4, but if someone else is with me they'll notice I'm breathing heavy and what if they're not?! I'm embarrassed to even be THINKING this way. Much less actually considering it.

I know I'm probably over analyzing. I'll most likely just deal with it and try to get myself used to going up those stairs. Hey, at least it's some bonus exercise, right??!

I just needed to let this all out. Thanksss for listening, like always.

What an awesome opportunity! You'll be getting exercise and burning calories without even thinking about it.

How many of the "skinny" students do you think could make it up 4 flights of stairs without puffing and panting? I don't think anyone will comment. They'll be too busy trying to catch their breath after walking up 4 flights of stairs!

Primm is right--I don't think that most people are fit enough to go up 4 flights of stairs without losing their breath. I'm not saying this is good, obviously, but I'm pretty sure it's true! And it is a good oppurtunity!

HA! It is VERY true! Skinny does NOT mean fit! MOST people can't walk up four flights of stairs without needing to catch their breath, THIN people INCLUDED! I have a ton of out of shape friends who are varying degrees of slim. I do NOT think they are going to say or anything ANYTHING if YOU are winded... they will be just as bad... maybe even more so because you DO exercise some and they may not. It's surprising how many people do absolutely no physical activity. Shoot, when I was thin (as in, before I ever got fat), I never worked out. I walked places, since I lived in a big city, and that's what people do in big cities, but scheduled exercise?! NO! Why would I do that? I thought EXERCISE was for FAT people <---then I wondered how I joined the ranks, of course

I had a chemistry class on the 4th floor in college. I ran a lot then, and it still winded me! Stairs are tough. Just take it at a moderate to slow pace and don't worry, everyone else will be winded too. =)

I have a class on the 4th floor this semester, too. I'm disappointed to report that I did NOT attempt the climb, but then again, no one else did, either! All the people in my class waited patiently at the elevator on the other side of the building so they could ride up. I did take the stairs down, though, and I was literally the only person in the stairwell. Maybe next class I'll take the initiative and scale those steps!

I'd jog up the stairs (as much as possible) -- it would be natural for just about anyone to be winded after jogging up a few flights of stairs!

First, everyone's right -- lots of people huff'n'puff after a few stairs. So much so that many take elevators when given the option

Second, from the first to the fourth floor is only 3 flights! 1) 1st - 2nd; 2) 2nd-3rd; 3) 3rd-4th!

Finally, make it a game, and track how you do during the semester. If you can't do more than one flight without stopping at first, that's fine! But watch how much better you get!!

Set being able to walk up all four flights as a goal!

Good luck!!

omg, this brought me memories of when I was at OSU. my SO was on the 14th floor. Since I snuck up there frequently. i had to ascend 14 flights of stairs at night. And descend 14 flights of stairs in the morning at the butt crack of dawn. He said that is how he knew I loved him. I didn't tell him I thought of it as a way to stay in shape. lol.

I think everyone else will be huffing and puffing. And i agree I would love to cram my workout into between classes with some flights of stairs!

I agree with the others. You will NOT be the only one huffing and puffing. I dealt with the EXACT situation 2 semesters ago. I actually *DID* do the "potty break" thing part way up for a while. That's ok to do if you're not comfortable. I only felt the need to do it for a couple of weeks. Everyone else was struggling too.

And just think what it will do for your glutes!

Youd be surprised.... even skinny people lose their breath walking up that number of flights.

And to be honest, no one cares how you look walking up stairs.
