  • You could make a deal with yourself that for every meal you eat there you have to take $5 from your paycheck and donate it to a charity. While the money is going to a good cause it is not going in your pocket where it is also needed.

*For me* this would not work. Oh no. I could just see myself rationalizing it away. "Oh, but it's for a good cause, why the heck not?"

    Quote:
HOWEVER, I can see the potential for it not working, too. I could see it happening where, you've been running around all day before work and didn't get a chance to eat anything, and you've worked half your shift and you're starving, and you decide to eat something, maybe a burrito. Then you feel like a failure, and like you might as well eat whatever there. I've been in that situation, and mine was also a fast food mexican place.
Agreed. That is why it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to bring healthy on plan foods from home, so that you're never in a situation where you are faced with nothing to eat and starving. I also don't allow myself to get starving. Because when I do, it sets me up to make poor choices.

    I do like this idea:
    Quote:
It's a restaurant, they've got to have lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Make it a mexican-style salad with a couple chips crumbled into it and salsa for dressing.
But it does go back to the fact that you would be eating food from "there". But in an absolute dire emergency.........

i just want to cry bc im so scared im going to fail. ive tried being healthy and dieting so many times while working there and it maybe lasts a week and im back to eating it. no matter how many times i always tell myself no and everything else im thinking, i just eat it anyway. i just dont know what to do...its like it completely takes over my entire body and mind and doesnt even give me the chance to think about it before i eat it and before you know it i ate a whole burrito
I just read a quote yesterday on this same topic, and I really thought about it and believe it to be probably more true than anything I've read in a while...

"If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you're right" - Mary Kay Ash

I worked in a fudge shop between my Junior and Senior year. I ate until I was sick almost every day and gained a lot of weight. Wow, what a great Senior year I had, hiding from the world because I had gained 50 pounds and dieing of total embarrassment. I sure learned my lesson, and decided right them and there that such places are not in my best interest.

I hope you reconsider working there. I find it odd you can't find a nurse-aid job for the summer...I live in a small community and they are begging for help at nursing homes, care homes, and hospitals...
  • I really do think you could find another job...

Have you considered being on the cleaning staff of a hotel or motel? It's physical work, but you won't be looking at food all day long. They always need help. You can bring your own lunch, and you'll be burning a lot of calories as well.

My niece couldn't either, and she had her certification, and it wasn't even summer with more people trying to find jobs. She was definitely out there looking hard. Tough times.

    Atta girl! GREAT job.

You've done it once, there is no reason on earth you can't repeat it - again and again. Stick with your convictions. You will never, ever regret doing so.
