Carrying a Lunch Today?

Are you taking your lunch to work or school?

What's in there?

dutchgirl 01-27-2009 06:13 AM

carrotsticks, cherry toms, cucumber with a low cal dip, an instant soup with noodles (58 cals.) and a multigrain roll
Also carried snacks, 1 apple and 1 pear.
I feel like I'm being a very, very good girl!:carrot:

I have a really cool little Bento box that I take to work.

3 layers - bottom is "lunch" that I eat at about 11pm (I'm working a 12 hour night). This is spinach/rocket or the like, with whatever salad veges I have (tonight it's grape tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, cucumber, spring onions) and a protein (tonight leftover chicken wings from dinner last night).

The middle is my snack box - tonight that consists of a banana, a nectarine, 2 coffee bags (how else can I stay awake all night?!), a tub of yoghurt, and a small bag of nuts.

The top is divided into 3 sections - in one is rolled oats that I put apple juice into this morning to soak into my version of Bircher muesli, which also has some sultanas, some grated apple, lemon juice and nuts (macadamias). Another section has frozen mixed berries that will be defrosted by the time I eat them, and the third has a serve of yoghurt. That will be my "breakfast" at about 3-4 am, depending on when women have babies that we admit. Some nights I bring the whole lot home again!

I pretty much take the same thing every day - protein, fruits and veges vary depending on what we have, but the overall mix is the same. It's quick and easy, and creates a stir in the tea room, partly because of the funky lunch box, and partly because of the freshness and the colour inside it.

Nice thread, Susan!

Frozen dinner and a banana.

Wow Ruth! That's inspirational!

Dutchgirl ... you are being very good. It does feel virtuous to take a healthy lunch.

I have a tupperware box'o'salad with chicken and packet of oatmeal in case I need a snack. I'm taking most of my shake in a travel mug. But I only work 8's.

Aw Suzanne ... someone will bring a treat for your birthday, won't they?

Funny enough, I just started taking my lunch to work. I want to save money and control my intake.

So, I'm taking:

hard boiled egg
home made vegetable soup with white beans
apple
1 Babybel light cheese

I have to be at work 14 hours today -- so I will probably have all my meals out of my lunch box.

bfast -- bread with pb, 1/2 banana and cinnamon

snack -- almonds and dried cherries

lunch -- turkey sandwich, a bag-o-fresh-veggies, yogurt

snack1 -- orange, or maybe the yogurt if I don't eat at lunch

snack2 -- not sure yet

dinner -- chili that I made the other day that needs reheating

snack -- babybel cheese on a cracker

I pack my lunch M-Th. Today I'm having what I call a BMT salad. Lettuce, 1/4c. shredded cheddar, 1 slice salami, 1tbsp salad crispins, 1tbsp bacon pieces, 1 tbsp italian dressing. Totals to about 300 calories, and is absolutely delicious!

I NEVER go to work without my own food. Actually, I carry a huge bag just with food. I brought today:

- oatmeal (fortified with some protein powder [for protein] and cinnamon
- a big salad (spinach, romaine, red pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion)
- half an apple
- my version of chili plus half of a sweet potato

AND some split chick pea soup for a friend who has permanent constipation issues - this will get her going. :-)

I bring my lunch everyday...much cheaper than eating out.

For breakfast- 1/2 cup eggwhites (omlet style) with 1/4 cup ff shredded cheese and 1 ounce chicken luncheon meat (130 cal)

Snack times: banana and apple

Lunch: 6 ounces bbq chicken breast (boneless/skinnless) and Yogurt

And a friend brought me a package of Beef and Ostrich Jerky to try. It has 60 cal. 1.5 g fat and 10 g. protein and 3 g. carbs. Gonna try it and see how it taste and fills me up.

I also have packed a bento box; actually I packed two! :carrot: I get up too early to eat so I eat both breakfast and lunch at work.

Breakfast was steel cut oatmeal topped with unsweetened applesauce. Yum! :) I have a lowfat cheddar cheese stick and a blood orange set aside just in case I get the mid-morning munchies.

Lunch will be garlic pepper smoked salmon, toasted sprouted grain bread, a laughing cow cheese wedge, some cucumber spears, grape tomatoes, baby carrots, and a pomegranate to round it all out.

I tend to have bigger breakfasts and lunches so that I stick to my cereal, milk, and fruit for dinner. It makes dinner mindless enough that I don't binge and don't get off track. :dizzy:

It's cool to see that someone else uses bento boxes. They're so colorful and fun they definitely are the furthest thing from supposedly boring "brown bagging it."

Lunch turkey tomato avocado sandwich, apple
Snack 2 bell pepper strips, zucchini sticks laughing cow cheese
