Round and around it goes...

  • So here I am for what feels like the millionth time, wanting to lose my excess weight. That ever exciting uphill battle I've fought and lost more times than I care to think about, but would really love to actually accomplish. This time around I have an interesting secondary motivation to my heath/self-esteem reasoning. My mom has offered to take me skydiving for my upcoming birthday in June if I can get under 200lbs. Can I do it? I certainly hope so, and I hope that, just as in the past, I can get some good support from all of you fabulous folks here on the forums.
  • 34lbs by June is definitely do-able!

Welcome back! The only person who can do this for you is you, but believe me, this place provides the most amazing motivation! I've noticed a direct correlation between when I stopped paying attention to my weight loss goals and when I stopped browsing these boards! So keep coming back!

Skydiving sounds amazing - that's definitely a goal you should be going for at full gusto!
  • if you want to go sky diving then i'd remember that when you feel like giving up on this diet.

and dont think of it as a diet. think of it as a life style change.
  • Oh trust me - I'll be keeping the skydiving in mind! I just have this terrible tendancy when I make these goals for myself where I give up at some point. The most weight I've ever lost is 17lbs and then I gained it all back. >.< I've gotten excellent support on these boards in the past, so I'm sure I'll get more of the same wonderful feedback I've gotten in the past! I love this place!

So are you saying that once you get going fairly well, and are losing, you get complacent or discouraged and give up? hmm. I am new to trying to lose weight, and after hanging around here fell ENCOURAGED that my weight loss is slow, and based on lifestyle changes I can maintain long term. I sure don't want to gain back what has been removed.

Do you know what happens to your resolve, based on past experience?
Planning for that may be the most helpful to get you to ONEderland. GOod luck
  • SKydiving!! I want to do that. How fun. Oh wow, we're both in California. Cool beans! Anyways, what diet are you doing? What's your routine like?
  • Good Luck! Skydiving would be plenty of motivation!!
  • Fatmad: Poignant (?) words...really gives one a lot to think about...

Ninepaw: I too have gained and loss more times that I can count but I feel differently about it this time. This time I'm putting myself first and doing what I need to do...foods that would keep me off my life plan are not in my house...fast foods - I keep driving...exercising daily at the gym has made remarkable progress to my "inner me".

I, too, will be skydiving for the first time hopefully in July. My son is in Germany and I'm planning my first jump with him.

Don't let anything stop you from being the YOU you desire to be!

Look forward to reading your posts on how your doing
  • I never got the facination some people get for jumping out of a perfectly good plane and taking a chance at death by trusting a stranger to pack their chute and just hoping there wasn't a malfunction! LOL!

I mean think about it... so if the chances your chute won't open are 1 in 10 million you jump. Would you pick up a revolver and put it to your head and pull the trigger if there was a 1 in 10 million chance it would go off? I think most wouldn't take the chance.

I understand there is a thrill factor involved but couldn't you get the same thrill in the worlds biggest rollercoaster or something!

If I tried skydiving I wouldn't have to worry whether the chute opened up or not I would have a heart attack before I hit the ground!
