What is your BMI?!

Mine is currently 35.2 (yikes!). I can't wait to get under 30 because then I will be overweight and not obese. When I get to 179 lbs I will be at 29.9 so that will be exciting and when I get to goal I will be at 19.7 :carrot:

Beautiful Ace 01-02-2009 06:12 AM

heather88 01-02-2009 06:17 AM

I use fit day. I'll go update my current weight, because now I'm at 294.

Oh haha, that makes more sense! As if you didn't rush to go change your stats!!! I change them as soon as I get to the computer after finding out I've lost more:P

Haha, well I JUST joined and totally forgot that I had entered that info in. From now on I'm going to update it whenever I lose weight since I'm becoming more active.

Beautiful Ace 01-02-2009 07:15 AM

Well that's good! Being an active member here, really keeps me going sometimes. Hope it does the same for you!

CousinRockingChair 01-02-2009 07:40 AM

22 apparantly

momof4girls 01-02-2009 08:26 AM

26.6 down from 38.8

Viatre 01-02-2009 09:06 AM

My BMI is 28.2 and my goal BMI is 21.1, a lot of work to do!

CountingDown 01-02-2009 09:40 AM

20.9 (down from 36.9)

RangerChic 01-02-2009 09:43 AM

32.7 presently. I want to weigh 140, but the stupid thing says I'll still be "overweight." See, I've got big bones so I hate the BMI calculator for the most part since it doesn't calculate your body type (at 140 my BMI will be 26.5). But, if I get to 140, I'll be within 8 pounds of what "they" say is my ideal weight and I'm okay with that, the last 10 pounds are vanity anyway (course I might try to get down later on :p)

Thighs Be Gone 01-02-2009 09:48 AM

Mine is 23.8--down from 32

Getting OUT of the "obese" category was my first mini-goal, and then it was to leave the "overweight" category. Health was a HUGE motivator for me after considering my own very UNHEALTHY biological family.

ETA: My goal of 140 will put me at 21.6

jahjah1223 01-02-2009 09:58 AM

23.8 i think? it says on my ticker. My goal is 21.5. i cried the first time i got a normal Bmi.lol

Thighs Be Gone 01-02-2009 10:01 AM

Disgruntled one, I run three miles every morning and would dare to say I am somewhat athletic. On top of that, I have an (almost) large frame. I do not think I will reach the 130's but reaching a healthy place on the BMI chart (under 25) is very doable.

nakedmango 01-02-2009 10:01 AM

24, according to Fitday. RealAge made me vewy vewy angwy yesterday--my 'age' is higher than it could be in part because I 'need to lose weight'--even though it put me at 24.5. What?? That's 'normal' weight according to BMI. RealAge can kiss my dancing carrot. :carrot: I am not happy with RealAge right now. *goes off to sulk*

:dizzy:

TheMrs 01-02-2009 10:09 AM

31.6

I had no idea what my BMI was until I saw this thread and googled a BMI calculator. I just knew that my doctor informed me that I was "obese" and left me sitting on the examination table... drooling on myself in shock.

TJFitnessDiva 01-02-2009 10:13 AM

mine is 32.1 :) Down from 44.8!

Lori Bell 01-02-2009 10:24 AM

Mine is 30.2 right now. I'm still obese :( The good news is I only have 2 pounds to go to be "overweight" and 34 pounds to be normal. I doubt I'll ever be normal. I've never been able to maintain that weigh for more than a few days/weeks. Well just see how it goes when I enter into maintenance at 175. It's actually quite scary for me to even think about.

Oh my starting BMI was 52.1 (Super-morbidly-obese)

TheMrs 01-02-2009 10:30 AM

You all should be proud of yourselves for coming so far! Honestly, you have done incredible things - be proud of that fact! :D

OnlyWomanInTheHouse 01-02-2009 10:30 AM

32.6, my first goal will put me at 26.6. My final goal will put me at 23.9.

stopeating 01-02-2009 10:44 AM

24.3 but I want to be 20.7.

Tomato 01-02-2009 10:47 AM

At the end of November, my BMI was 24.9 which is actually kinda funny because I don't have much extra fat to lose. But, BMI as such does not concern me because it does not take into account the percentage of body fat or the percentage of lean body mass; it is stricly a weight/height ratio.

It should a bit lower now as I dropped a few pounds in December.

midwife 01-02-2009 11:23 AM

I'm with Tomato. BMI does not concern me either. My body fat percentage is about 14%. Part of me would love to see the 140s (I range 152-155 and I am 5'8"), but where would I lose 3-7 pounds from? I don't want to give up muscle mass and I'm not sure I can get my body fat percentage any lower. Weight, in and of itself, is just a number and the BMI is limited by only comparing height and weight. Body fat % is a far more meaningful number, in my opinion.

FB 01-02-2009 11:27 AM

Like some others I pay closer attention to body fat percentages. BUH-UUUT- I just checked, mine is currently 21.95, down from 42.33. Yay!

:carrot: FB, you are such an inspiration!!

FB 01-02-2009 12:06 PM

Oh midwife, thanks! :)

chick_in_the_hat 01-02-2009 01:00 PM

29.7 down from 45.3...BMI is annoying to me because I have a lot of muscle...which means I'm smaller inch wise....but it's been a struggle to stay in the overweight category. Normal means I would have to get down to 145. I'll be happy if I can stay out of obese. :carrot:

river 01-02-2009 01:04 PM

23.5 down from 26

WarMaiden 01-02-2009 01:19 PM

37, down from 46. Goal should put me around 23, but I don't really consider BMI to be all that meaningful.

Schumeany 01-02-2009 01:38 PM

I'm not so keen on BMI either...but mine is, according to the calculators, currently 20.7 down from 28.4 I think...

However, that said, the body fat calculator on my scale says my body fat is 19.2% and I just had it done with calipers and that says I'm at 19%. So, be wary of the BMI, I have a medium build, pretty broad shoulders and flaired hips (My measurements are 36/26/36). Like Midwife, BMI does not take into account my higher lean muscle mass percentage. It is a somewhat useful tool, but a VERY general one.

By the way when we all get to our goal weight I am positive the BMI scales will no longer work for us. They say people who are athletic aren't really getting a good reading off of the BMI system. Due to the composition of their body, so much muscle and all. Of course at end of our losing weight journey and beginning of our maintaining journey we will be buff!!!!!!!

That is true. When I was at 145 lbs I was in much better shape than when I was 115 lbs. At 145 I was all muscle and no fat and at 115 I was skinny but flabby. I think the BMI system is a good gauge but for people with a lot of muscle it might not be totally accurate!

Thighs Be Gone 01-02-2009 02:50 PM

35.2 is my REAL AGE on realage.com......3 years + younger than I really am

JulieJ08 01-02-2009 03:10 PM

It's so interesting to read those of you posting BMI and BF% for comparison!

My BMI has gone from 30.85 to 22.24. Obese to normal :)

I so wish I knew my BF%. I go from thinking it's probably higher than I think, to thinking it's probably pretty good. So yeah, I have no idea. But I can see some muscles!

Skinny Teen 01-02-2009 03:28 PM

28.4
My goal will put me at 22.9 :D

muppetmummy 01-02-2009 03:40 PM

Mine is 34.8 atm, my goal is 21.2 which will take me down to 8st

For Julie's sake ;) I'll post my BF% numbers in addition.

Start: weight 289 / BMI 47 / BF 52% from scale / BF 58% calculated from BMI

Current: weight 235 / BMI 37 / BF 47% from scale / BF 48% calculated from BMI

Goal: weight 145 / BMI 23 / BF 20% from scale / BF 32% calculated from BMI

Just showing that there can be wide variation between BMI and actual bodyfat %s, again.

Tuca125 01-02-2009 03:51 PM

my is 29 down for 32.2 .....
