I think I figured out what was wrong with my diet.
I started a new thread couple of weeks ago about not being able to lose weight even though I was eating healthy and exercising. Last week I decided to exclude
bread, grains and vegetables that are high in carbs. I'm not following Atkins diet because I still eat lots of vegetables and fruits, and I don't consume too much fat. In just one week I dropped 2 pounds.
Here's an example of my daily menu:
Breakfast: Omelette made with 4 egg whites and a slice of low fat cheese. I eat my omelette with a half of cucumber and a tomato
Snack: I just pick a fruit
Lunch: Salad made with either chicken breast or fish (I use low fat salad dressings and apple cider vinegar)
Snack: 15 cashews or a fruit or boiled egg whites
Dinner: Chicken/fish and vegetables
Late night Snack: skim milk or a fruit
I cook my fish and chicken with some olive oil and I usually add some olive oil in my salad.
What do you guys think about my new diet? Is it healthy?

I think your diet seems very good. I will tell you that I once had a trainer and he recommended that fruit be consumed earlier in the day, rather than at night, but if it stops you from eating something more "sinful," then enjoy it!
I hope you continue to see results....I'm sure you will!
One last thing....are you hungry? It doesn't seem like that many calories, so I was just wondering. Also, you might consider switching from milk to low fat almond milk, but that's just my own personal opinion and not everyone agrees. Take care.
Luckymommy, I don't feel hungry at all. I think it's because I eat lots of protein. I will try to eat fruits earlier in the day from now on. Thanks a lot .
It looks a bit on the "low calorie" side to me. Try putting it into Fitday and see how many calories you are eating. While severely restricting calories WILL cause a weight loss, it isn't healthy in the long run. It can affect your metabolism and cause a much slower loss rate in the future.
To build in a few more calories, I would make sure you had some protein with your snacks and boost the veggie portions.
Overall, it looks pretty balanced and healthy.

I agree . . . sounds like you could be a little light on calories. You could also try adding some LF yogurt to your snacks.
I tend to get most of my carbs from fruits and vegetables, too. I'm a diabetic and my system does not handle starches well, not even the good whole grain ones.
Your plan sounds quite a bit like my plan, except I would add some complex carbs in there, maybe at dinner. A serving of brown rice or couscous or whatever will round out your diet and up your calories a little. Generally I try to stick to 1200-1400 calories a day because I can't lose weight if I eat more than that (even though I exercise like a fiend), so I am at the 'low end' of calories that people talk about. It works for me, and it sounds like it is working for you. Just make sure you're getting enough calories that you won't feel deprived and end up binging.
By the way... if you decide to add complex carbohydrates like brown rice, try to keep your "serving" at 100 calories or less. For brown rice, this would be 1/2 cup, cooked.
Playing around to see what "works" can be a lot of fun and gratifying too! But be careful of making too many cause and effect assumptions. Weight loss isn't linear, so just because you lost weight this week doesn't mean it was because of the new way of eating. I think the best way to figure it out is to stick to something for a few weeks or longer. See how the weight loss goes AND how you feel once the newness wears off! Be willing to tweak if need be!
the only thing i would say is that it looks too low in cals.
if you remove carbs from a diet the body requires fat as its main source of energy, and in order to put your body into ketosis (fat burn mode!) you must eat enough fat to make the switch.
try reading some books or articles on it, it has been proven that it is inherently dangerous to remove both carbs and fat from a diet.
try putting a yolk into your omelette, using normal cheese instead of low fat, and add some red meats
I don't think I will be adding carbs in my diet for at least a month. I started losing weight now I don't want to start gaining weight again
PrettyPaula, I add a yolk in my omelette once a week. I usually have some regular cheese and I eat lots of cashew. Also, I try to eat olive oil everyday. Isn't that enough?
Might want to be careful with these, as 18 of them have 165 calories. I absolutely have to count out nuts.
In her original post, she said she counts out 15 cashews. I think by "lots," she just meant she eats them every day
I agree a million percent with Heather. Just because yo ulost weight this week does NOT mean it's because you cut your carbs. Just about any change in your routine can help to jumpstart weight loss, whether it be changing your calories intake, your fat intake, your protein intake, etc. Were you eating this few calories prior to cutting the carbs? You may just have cut your calories lower and saw a loss in the scale--could have nothing to do with carbs. I really don't think adding in a few healthy carbs would cause you to gain--it's the basis of most healthy eating weight loss plans (fruits, veggies, lean protein, lean dairy, and natural/complex carbs).
Jillybean720, I was probably eating less calories prior to cutting carbs. I switched breakfast from 3/4 cups of cereal and cup of skim milk to omelette, cheese, and sometimes pastrami.
And I'm just not eating 1/2 cup of rice or mashed potatoes for dinner.
