diet vs menstrating...?

  • Although i have successfully lost weight before, at the moment im fairly focussed on my diet and losing for christmas. But i was wondering what people find happens to them during menstration with there weight, food needs and controll?
I seem to cope fine with the PMS and food binging, which took a while to get a hold of, but now i know when its binging and not. But i always wonder does my body need more meat (iron) during the time of the month?

i know we hold alot of water, but is that only before? or during aswell?

do our metabolisms slow or get faster?

anyway just thought id see what other peoples experiences are so maybe we could see if there are any general answers.....
  • I tend to be hungrier the week before my period and crave red meat. I gain up to 4 lbs the week before my period, that weight is gone by the time my period ends. No clue about metabolism.
  • I don't think i have any particular dietary demands or cravings during my period but i do gain a couple of pounds the week of. By the end of the cycle, i've lost them. I usually gain about 4 pounds. Other than that, i don't notice any differences....besides going thru more tylenol!! lol.
  • I crave red meat too before/during my period! It's my burger frenzy time. I think the people at the In n Out drive through know me by name...

    Sorry, not much help though
  • For me it's carbs, carbs, carbs!

There was another thread similar to this recently, and the consensus from the responses seemed to be that a lot of us gain weight prior that disappears after. I know that we tend to retain water right before - for myself, I can almost see it happening as my rings get tighter!

I've heard that you will crave red meat if you're slightly anemic, but don't know for certain if this is medical fact. I'm sure there are many variables, but you might want to get checked out if you're experiencing other symptoms, too.
  • Rennie I do the same thing because I know the number is going to be inaccurate and upset me. Therefore, I don't even bother!
  • i think i have such ireegular periods, and when i do have them they are either long and painfull, or short and painfull, that pain overrides the feeling to want to loose weight, and just curl up in a ball somwhere. i know alot of women get this, i think i should maybe get checked out for pcos.....
but i dont have huge problems with loosing weight, i have a slow metabolism, but that speeds up if i exercise alot and eat veg, like it should do!

so ill try and not weight myself till after tom, seems like a good idea, and just hope my appitites for eating, then not, evens out and i dont go ott
