Girls, I am just starting and have been reading these forum posts the past several nights (the only time I have to myself is around 10PM to midnight.) I am getting excited to see how much support there is out there! The exercise part of my "lifestyle changes" will have to be walking for now. I will have approximately 15 to 30 minutes a day available for this. At first I thought that there was no reason to even get started since it was so little time. Then, I found out through reading your posts that ANY time is better than NO Time. I have to buy new shoes for walking as I've worn out my old New Balance Walkers. Do any of you know anything about what is called the Masai Barefoot Technology shoes? Or MBT shoes? Are they dangerous to use for driving or anything? Do they work to help you "work" your legs better (as ads say--who believes ads anyway...) I am going to go shopping next week and these shoes are just now available where I live. They are very expensive so I need to find out if anyone has actually used them.

Keep up the good work everyone!
Jansa

:woohoo: gailr42!!!! I think walking is great - for physical as well as mental health. Your goal of adding more as you progress is excellent. :carrot:

Jansa47 - I had never heard of these MBT shoes before so I googled them. IMHO - they are pretty funky looking. :dizzy: Walking is pretty basic - I'm not sure you need to cough up a couple hundred bucks to start out with. I do recommend that you go to a reputable shoe store and get fitted for a good pair of walking shoes. Injuring yourself will cut into your working out. :(

That being said - I walk in birkenstocks sometimes. They feel great and they work out my hamstrings a little extra to hold them on as I go. I also like merrel walking shoes...if you find them on sale they run around $50-80 or so. A lot for shoes, but they last a long time.

I need new shoes, too. The ones I am wearing are the last ones I bought before I gave up exercising about 18 years ago. They seem kind of lifeless.

Yow! Gailr42, my shoes wear out in six months! Yeah, spring for a new pair. :D

The reason they aren't worn out is that I haven't worn them. Their role has been to sit in the back of a hot car and serve as emergency shoes. I think they are sort of dried out.

Well, let them remain your emegency shoes, then! That's a good use for them.

Jay
