Unhappy VERY slow weightloss...

In 6 and a half weeks I have lost only about 8lbs (by cutting calories). In the last 2 weeks I have lost about 1 pound

I recently stopped taking the contraceptive pill and now I am 2 weeks late, but I've had PMS for 2 weeks

Do you think this could be linked?
Or, could there be another reason for the slowness?

I'm getting pretty frustrated because in the past I have lost 14lbs in 6 weeks and I cannot see ANY difference in my body or the feeling of my clothes. I am trying SO hard.

Shall I just tough it out and keep on going??

That is a perfectly normal and healthy weightloss. 1-2 lbs per week is normal and healthy, any more than that and you're burning muscle as well as fat.

And the alternative is? Stay at the weight you are (or gain more)?

Seriously, 1-2 lbs a week is totally normal. You're doing really well, don't give up now.

I agree with what everyone else has said. You sound like you're right on track to me! Keep at it!

The thing people seem to be determined to overlook is that sustainable weight loss is a long, slow process. And guess what - once you're at your goal you're STILL going to be eating some modified version of your diet if you want to keep the weight off! Not only should you keep at it, you should make peace with the fact that this is the way you are going to be eating and living FOREVER if you really want to be thin and fit for life. This is a marathon, not a sprint!

Excellent post Robin.

Why are we so demanding of ourselves? In another thread a poster is celebrating an 8 lb loss. What would we say to him/her?

Keep going - you are right on track for healthy, maintainable weight loss. It feels slow, but once you get there, it won't matter how long it took, just that you accomplished it.

It is very human to be impatient.

Patience is not one of my better virtues. Weight loss takes way too long, but it's pretty darn worth it!

I've slowed down too. I lost a lot of it really quick and now I can't seem to lose anymore.

I understand your frustration, but honestly.. your loss has not been slow, it's healthy to lose 1-2 lbs per week, sometimes more, sometimes none at all. This has been my progress:

Date Weight Change
05/12/07 207.5
05/19/07 203 -4.5
05/26/07 199.5 -3.5
06/02/07 198.5 -1
06/09/07 197 -1.5
06/16/07 196.5 -0.5
06/23/07 194 -2.5
06/30/07 192 -2
07/07/07 192 0

I started in a tight 18 and am now a small 18/large 16 (not wearable yet), and I was a tight 18 (probably should have been in a 20) at 227 also. I've lost 15.5 lbs so far this time. I have only changed my eating, and am not working out yet. I've learned not to get upset if I lose nothing one week (like this past week), because next week I could lose 2 lbs, kwim? I want to lose the weight and keep it off, not lose it quickly and be nice and thin for a year and then gain it all back because I didn't give myself time to fully adapt to a new LIFESTYLE. So, try that.. look at it as a new lifestyle to be healthier, and try not to let the numbers affect you emotionally. If you're patient and are following your diet closely, you will succeed.
