Default Mom's Bad Diagnosis

OK, so I've done well so far 14 pounds down and exercising like a maniac but . . .

Mom's got a bad diagnosis with a very short time to get her affairs in order so. . .

Instead of running after work, I'm at the mortuary deciding on arrangements

Instead of swimming before work, I'm up til all hours in discussions with family members about the good ol' days

Instead of eating on plan I'm carbo loading to try to get through the god-awful procedures with a smile and encouragement while operating on no sleep

How to cope?? It has been 8 days since the s**t hit the fan and I am struggling.

Anyone have a clue??

Thanks

RQ

RQ - So sorry that things aren't going well for your mom. My thoughts are with you and your family.

In terms of eating and exercise, can I just suggest you ease up on yourself? There are VERY few people who could keep up an eating/exercise routine 100% while there was so much going in. That being said, you will be doing yourself a favor if you find time to slip in some mild exercise...instead of running, maybe you do 30 min of yoga before bed to center yourself. Maybe if there is some night where you can't sleep, you can go out to a pool and just swim gently. Exercise time is, for me, more than about fitness - its a time for me to reflect and center myself - and with so much going on, a little bit of you-time might be a good thing.

Be gentle with yourself. Life happens, and we all work with that as best we can, but this isn't something you should be stressing yourself over right now.

Again, all my good thoughts headed your way.

I'm so sorry, Rosequeen.

Do what you can to try to curb the bad stuff and get some movement in. Remember that if it's really a program for life, life includes times like these. Don't make yourself feel worse--that's the main thing.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this.

Unfortunately you are going through one of the most difficult times that a person will ever have to go through in life - and I really think you need to cut yourself some slack.

As far as your eating and the carbs go just try to make better choices. Try not to go overboard with portions. Because even if your choices aren't the greatest, and quite frankly that''s to be expected, at least you can try and keep the portion sizes in check.

Exercise is a great time to "steal" some time away from all the chaos. Maybe for the time being you can find 20 or 30 mins in the early morning and/or 20 or 30 minutes in the evening to so something light. Either a nice quiet brisk walk or a bicycle ride. You just may find this very theraputic.

For the time being, whatever will be - will be - and you know what? It's more then good enough. It has to be, that's just the way things are sometimes.

I wish you, your mom and your entire family all the best during this excruciatingly painful time.

Just try to maintain your current weight until things ease off for you. That might mean that you stall at your current weight for a while, but it is better than gaining it back. My thoughts are with you and your family
