I have done the 9 day fat smash detox and only lost 3 pounds.
I am so frustrated because I have been so miserable eating brown freaking rice and grapes! I dread lunch or dinner because I know its going to be veggie soup or rice with something in it.
I don't have a ton of time to cook or prepare anything, so I am pretty limited.
Now I am discouraged that if I start eating chicken and cereal, that I'm not going to lose anything.
Is it possible to be gaining muscle this early?
It is possible, but what I am focusing on most is that you lost 3 pounds in 9 days and are not happy with that! A healthy loss is 1-2 pounds a week. Your first week is normally a little more because you are getting rid of some water weight.
If there are too many restrictions on your current diet plan, you may want to think to switch to another type that offers less restrictions - calorie counting, weight watchers, etc.
Three pounds in nine days is a LOT. Also, it's just nine days. You can't really expect to hit any major goals in a little over a week. Your weight isn't that high to begin with, so you're not going to have those huge losses at the beginning like some of us who started out at very high weights may have seen.
The most important thing I got from your post, however, is that you are MISERABLE with your plan. So how long do you think you can keep it up? From what I know of the Fat Smash plan (my knowledge is limited, I admit), you do go through phases and the beginning is the toughest, but have you considered doing something more manageable? I don't deprive myself of ANYthing I want. I just count calories (or WW points, same thing) and fit whatever I want into those points, and I've lost 97 pounds. There are a million diets out there that tell you exactly what you can and can't have, but very few people can live with that for long. Perhaps you should reconsider your plan. You should definitely reconsider your expectations if you're not happy with a 3-pound loss. Congratulations on that loss, by the way!!
Also, I believe there's a Fat Smash thread in the Diet Plans area of the board -- have you checked that out? Maybe some folks who've been on the plan for a while can give you some tips on managing if you decide to stick it out with that plan. If you're unhappy with your meals, however, I strongly urge you to try something less restrictive.
Like everybody else has said three pounds is a lot! Really, it is, especially for someone who's only in the 140's to start with. You need to reset your expectations. The last 15-20 lbs are HARD to lose and it will be difficult to drop them at a rate of more than 1-2 lbs a week.
Second modkittin/Lori's concern about not being satisfied with 3 pounds lost in 9 days. And like most detox programs, you'll gain a bit of that back when you finish since a lot of weight lost from detox is water.
And from the sound of how miserable this current routine is, you'd be better off switching to a program you can live with. To lose the weight and maintain that lost, you have to make long-term lifestyle patterns you can live with (that's why they call it a *life*style and not a *week*style or *month*style, etc. ) and it doesn't sound like you can bear down this veggie soup / brown rice thing for long.
As for muscle gain, depends on what exercises you do--generally, though, people experience muscle loss as they lose weight, strength exercises help offsets some of that though.
I tried Fat Smash Detox and wanna know how much I lost? ZERO! Zip! Jack squat! I was so annoyed and upset, just like you. And I now HATE brown rice, veggie soup, and BEANS because that's what I ate! The most jacked up part about the whole experience is that once I STOPPED dieting and ATE CRAP, I suddenly dropped 6 pounds. Then, I noticed I was thinner and decided I didn't want to gain, so I'm now following my own diet plan: 4-6 small meals a day, less than 1,500 calories, plenty of exercise, low fat(but not impossibly so), low carb (ditto), and high protein. So far, I'm shrinking daily, and my weight is super stubborn. I think the Fat Smash Diet works for some people, but not others. They have some good concepts that I've embraced, but following it page by page, rule by rule, was too difficult for my big fat self!
I can only echo what other members have said! It's a good loss! But, you don't sound happy. Fortunately, there are many approaches to weight loss. It's important to find a plan that fits with your lifestyle. I'm a calorie counter myself, and a rely on Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice or other types of packaged meals because I am just not a cook! (And for me, Jenny Craig would be too expensive.) But, as you see, it is working this way. The main thing is that I track everything I eat and I have a target calorie number every day.
Whatever plan you decide on, keep in mind that it will be hard from time to time. It's just that some programs are easier than others.
the only plan that will work for you is one you like. if you are miserable you will stop and regain anything you lost 3 pounds in just over a week is huge....
but what you have to do is find a lifestyle that you can live with forever.
Thanks everyone for your help and opinions!
I guess I was just so focused on the fact that most people say they lose 5-6 pounds in the first 9 days, instead of looking at the fact that it HAS been 9 days.
I'm going to keep going with the phases since it allows me to introduce other foods I love. And Boca burgers!? Yum!
I've always done diets a little and given up. I want to do this one to see if I can and what happens. If nothing happens, I will try something else.
well, how long to you intend to keep the lbs lost off? You might want to avoid "dieting" if you want your weight-loss to be permanent. Adapting to better habits and still having the foods you love in your meals seem to be optimum for everyone else.
