Frusterated

I thought I was doing so good. I have been trying to eat more veggies, watching my protions. Since April 4 I have been walking 3-4 days a week 2 miles at a time. This week I have started 3 days of walking and 2 days of toning. I have not seen the scale move and my pants are not getting loose either. So, today I wrote down everything I ate and figured the calories. Just over 1700 cal.:o I thought I was doing so good. I could not believe that it was that high. The thing is, I am still hungery. I figure that with my excersizing I should be eating between 1300-1500 a day. I looked at what I ate today and there was really nothing bad.

B-yogurt, whole wheat Enlish muffin with 2pc lunch meat and 1oz cheese -
L-Progresso chick. noodle soup with lean pocket
S-Fiber One bar
D- Chick. breast, broccoli, noodles

I don't think it looks too bad. Maybe I am missing something. I just feel like I am hungery all the time. I need to know what I am doing wrong and how I can maybe fix it.

Thanks

Hey there!

First of all, you should congratulate yourself for all the walking and toning you have done so far. That's a good accomplishment and will help you stay healthy!

Many of us have been surprised to find out that we had been eating more than we thought when we get around to adding up the calories--so it's not a disgrace.

Do you use a calorie tracking program? There are several to choose from--some are free on the web. They can make life easier. FitDay is one such program. Be sure to include everything you eat, every day. If you want to add a food, like the Lean Pockets, then some programs allow you to enter the information from the Nutrition Facts panel. :)

You should probably start with 1500 cals per day, and depending on your age and activity level (other than your walking), you may need to go lower.

One way not to feel so hungry is to make sure you get some protein with every meal--which you seem to be--and another way is to include more snacks, so you are having 5 or 6 "eating times" in the day. You may have to eat less at the main meals to allow some calories for your snacks.

You can expect to feel some hunger some of the time--that's normal.

Good luck! See how this works?

Jay

Congrats on your progress so far! I second the calorie counting and would also suggest less processed and calorie-dense foods and more whole foods that are naturally high in fiber and nutrition (raw and steamed or baked veggies, fresh fruits and so on).

Fiber is your friend!

I have to agree with Jay and SoulBliss. Counting calories is a great way to get a handle on food. And if you want to not feel hungry, you need to trade in the processed food for veggies and lean proteins. Big salads with chicken or shrimp, egg-white omelets with veggies, fruit and whole grains. It's the only way to keep your calories low and your tummy full--alas, there is no correlation between the number of calories in a food, and the amount of 'fullness' it gives you.

Congrats on getting started with the walking! I would recommend NOT using the walking as an excuse to eat more calories. I prefer to think of exercise as a bonus to speed up weight loss. Depending on your age and height, as Jay said, you'll probably want to start with 1500 a day.

Hi! First of all your making the efforts needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The only suggestion I have for you is to add more fruits and veggies to your eating plan, and make sure you drink up when it comes to water!

Good luck and stick with it!

I also would add that fruits and veggies will fill you up more because they are full of fiber. It will also be better on your digestive tract that all the processed foods such as cheeses, meats, and lean pockets. Lean meats are great, but make sure your portions are right around 6 oz. for a meal.

here are some things that are good if you get hungry during the day:

Fruit salad with a few drops of vanilla extract for a nice flavoring, Celery-apple-or banana chunks with a little reduced fat peanut butter, yoghurt with a little fiber-one sprinkled on top, a fruit smoothie made with several frozen fruits and a little clear diet soda, some steamed veggies with a little spray margarine.

Mmmm...now I'M hungry! lol ;)

Plenty of water is key...at LEAST 2 quarts a day...when you get a grumbly...drink some water, and then if you don't feel better, eat something healthy...NEVER deprive your body when you feel hungry...just eat something healthy! Another good thing are beans..like edamame, peas, kidney beans, dried soybeans.
