I can't get something out of my head. I tell myself ~'yeah you've lost 21 pounds'....BUT you're still higher than the last time when you lost 50 pounds and your highest weight was lower than you are now! It's confusing. I want to feel proud but than I feel discouraged because I know that I am still higher than THAT DAY....when I stepped on the scale and CRIED because it said 181.5. Today I'm 184.5 after losing 21 pounds. AM I CRAZY? Or does anyone else look at past weights a remember the way they felt at those weights etc. And I'm thinking wow, you're looking good and then I look closer in the mirror and stand sideways and say...oops! Maybe not. I want to stay motivated and up until now I have been....but it's so defeating to know that after I lose the next 3 pounds I'll STILL have all this work to do. It was really difficult losing that 50 pounds that time. I was so proud of myself for doing it. I walked like 2-4 miles a day...usually the 4 miles. And I was so strict with myself as far as no sugar or dairy. And just being really good. So arghhhhh, CAN I REALLY DO THIS? One thing I didn't have was 3FC

This is week 6 for me by the way.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm down 32 pounds, and yet I'm still higher than I was many years ago when I started Weight Watchers because I thought I was too heavy.

Well, in between then and now I went up and down a few times.

But that's just how it was! Don't dwell on the past--it is a complete waste of time. You are where you are now, and it's a lot better than it was 21 pounds ago.

Besides, what's your alternative? What would happen if you gave up now? History pretty much tells you that answer. So really, you need to keep going and stop hitting yourself. You used to walk 2-4 miles a day? So do that now! You used to be good with restricting sugar? So do that now!

You're not crazy, but you can sure make yourself crazy if you keep on with those comparisons. Stay in the moment! It's going to be different this time because you realize it's NOT a diet, it's a life change.

Hang in there! Don't give up!

Onmyown, it may sound trite, but that was then, this is now. I'm sure it's frustrating to know you were thinner before, but you can't turn back time. The main thing is that you're on track now, and moving in the right direction. Focus on the positive - 21 pounds lost is terrific! Don't compare to the past, you'll just bring yourself down. Compare yourself to 21 pounds heavier, and focus on how well you're doing. You'll have a lot more success, and enjoy it more, if you have a positive mindset!

I know what you're saying! I revisit past failures a lot. I try to learn from them, but that doesn't always happen!

I guess the best I have to offer here is to say that your current weight loss for just six weeks seems GREAT to me! You must be doing a lot right THIS TIME for that to happen, so I say, "You're doing GREAT, Girl!"

Think of the things that are going well, and keep them going. It will happen! Be patient, and keep positive!

The reason I can't walk 2-4 miles a day is because I have this thing in my left foot called lymphnoidemia (sp?) and it causes my foot to swell. But I plan on starting to walk like a mile and then do the bike or some other exercise to compensate for that. I truly enjoyed walking before tho. I'd pump up the music and take off and it was great. I'm hoping that some of my foot problem would go away after I lose more weight. But you never know.

Thanks everyone for understanding. I wondered if other people think like that. Psh! You all are right tho....focus on the present not the past. And hopefully I'll learn that it's a pain in the a** to get this weight off and I'll keep it off this time. It wasn't THAT much fun gaining it. Geez wiz! Here's to getting it off for good this time!

Tina, one of the most powerful influencers on our behavior (and often not for the better) is what we tell ourselves in our mind. I am only too familiar with this - you need to believe that you ARE doing this, that it is a change that's for good, and the fact that you happened to start at a higher weight is nothing more than a reflection of your starting point when you made this life-changing decision. Keep going with what you've figured out is working, and it will all be fine. Good luck!
