Hi,
I started my lifestyle change about 6 weeks ago, and since then I have been trying to aim for 1500 calories a day, which is usually not difficult for me. I started out doing low carb, then decided that was not for me. I wanted to be able to eat a little bread, I decided I would let myself have a some carbs, but like wheat bread and brown rice in moderation. I have since lost 15 lbs...
Today, I have really overdone it on calories and carbs. 1852 calories and at least 35%-40% carbs or more, which is high for me. I don't remember exactly... I feel so freakin' guilty . I think my problem is that I just went shopping, and I have too many good things in my house at one time, which makes me have a variety of choices. When I can't choose, I will eat one thing now, and another a little later, and so on. I feel like the old me is back, the one who was greedy with food, and would eat and eat and never feel satisfied. I don't want her to reinhabit my body, ever!!!!
Then I went and bought pork chops for dinner tonight, and they were very lean, and I though to myself, they're really lean, I'll be ok with these, so I ate 2... then, after I ate them, I punched them into fitday, and guess what.. Over 500 calories in just those 2 chops.. OMG!!!! Boy, was I wrong! Well, too late now! I should have punched them in before I ate them... I am sick about this...
Heather, first of all you are doing fantastic! 15 pounds in just 6 weeks tells me you've made a commitment, and are sticking to it. You had a bad day, or better yet, a real life kinda day. They happen. You've owned up to it and input the info in fitday, now it's time to move on. Yes, it's higher than your normal day, but it wasn't 5000 calories higher. Jump back on the wagon and back onto plan, you'll be fine! The pork chops were a definite eye-opener for you, so guess what? Next time you'll remember this much better than if you had entered them first, and you'll think twice before you eat two of them at once! You can do this!
Awesome job on the weight loss!! You have got to focus on that. You made an opps today- which may happen (happens to me a lot), just don't give up and focus on what you have accomplished!! It's ok to fall off the wagon, its the fact that you get back on that counts.
And if you feel guility still- try and beef up your excerise a bit this week. That may help
Grocery shopping day is always bad for me. A few weeks ago I thought I would buy a box of thoses sweet & salty peanut granola bars thinking that I would have one once in a while for a snack. WRONG!
I had a stressful day and ended up eating 4 of the the 5 granola bars in one day! And the are 170 calories each!
My new rule for myself is only buy treats that come in single servings and if my b/f wants snacks I make him take them to the office with him so that they are not around the house.
first and formost understand this ....we all have set backs. You are doing great so far. Don't beat yourself up...just get back on corse...you can do it...hang in there.
First, you have done well to lose that much! Second, you learned something valuable about meat portions. 4 ounces of meat is about tops for a single serving--when losing weight, that is. But, I hope that you did enjoy those pork chops! Next time you'll know to save one for later, that's all.
I think we all have days like that. I did - just yesterday. I couldn't stop getting little handfuls of this and little handfuls of that. Thank God I had class so I had to leave the house. I got in the car with a handful of sesame sticks, and before I had rounded the corner, I rolled the window down and tossed them out. I think I actually said "GO AWAY" out loud too.
As Scarlet says, tomorrow is another day. And here we are at tomorrow. Onward!
This is my first day on this site. You are very inspiring! I have so much weight to lose. It seems like a daunting task to even get started. Anyone have any tricks to share with me?
Cleveland (I was born in Akron) I lost over 200 pounds so I can give you a couple of tips. First of all, forget the total amount. Set a goal to lose 10% of your body weight and concentrate on that. Set smaller goals - to exercise, to drink more water, to eat healthier, etc. Limit treats to once or twice a week, not daily (I'll probably be told I'm wrong but that is what has kept my weight off for 30 years) because it isn't a treat if you have it all the time. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meat. Realize that we all have days where we don't accomplish our goals but that doesn't make us a bad person or mean we are doomed to failure. Don't brood on it, make it a learning experience and decide how you will treat a similar situation in the future, then FORGET it. You can't change the past but you can deal with the present. Good luck!
So you had an extra pork chop! Pffft! Its not like you sat down and ate a whole pizza... no? As for your munching on this and that.... it has been proven that varying your intake of food throughout the day is better for your body as it gets a wider spectrum of nutrients.... so even though you might have gone over your calorie count for the day.. in a way you did you body good. I'd say it all balanced out!
Good advice!
I have a bad habit of eating just to eat. Makes me depressed! But, I don't want to be the Fat Mom any more so hopefully I'll kick this dieting thing into gear.
Heather ~ that was ONE day sweetie. Don't let it get you. And you haven't become the 'old heather' because you are here and you are talking about it and getting support. Would the old heather have done that? And you actually WERE trying to eat lowfat meat. Every day is an education and we learn more every day. This IS a journey and you are actually one day closer to getting there. So hang tough. Get tough with yourself and have one fabulous day today. Take any extra walk and get your head in the game and you will be fine!
BeezKnees....you CRACK me up again. I love the visual of you throwing those sticks out your car window as you drive away and yell at them as if they are attacking you! hahaha! That's so funny. I haven't had to yell at my food yet. But give me a while...this is only the beginning of week 5 for me.
Cleveland~ Actually, you have about the SAME amount as me except I started with 5.5 MORE than you and I need to get down about 3 more than you. So....you are that much more ahead of the game than I was. But my ADVISE to you would be to get a plan together. Whether its someone elses from a book or a center or if it's something you have put together for yourself. And then to PREPARE. You get your starting weight and measurements. You maybe take a picture of yourself. And then go grocery shopping and get the things you'll need for the week. Try to get rid of the things in your house that would be tempting or that you can't eat. Then darlin' just get started! And don't forget to check in here every day for support. You can put motivating sliders on the bottom by going to "user cp" (upper left corner of page) and then 'edit signiture' and there will be info on how to do that. And finally keep a journal that you write everything down. Your goals/what you ate/how you felt/how much you weighed/everything....
Does that help....well that's what I'm doing and it's working for me...minus the throwing out other foods....but I have that stuff outta my system so I'm not craving things. Luckily....yet....(fingers crossed)
Tina - Again with the good advice! I am so glad I found this site. I read about it in Oprah's magazine yesterday at the hair salon. I have all the right foods in the house so I just need to exercise and remember that it's not all going to come off at once.
Heather - Sounds like you had a bad day! You are good to be taking care of yourself at your young age. Keep a positive outlook! Go forward and try not to beat yourself up over what happened with the pork chops. hey, at least it wasn't 3 bags of Doritos or a mound of fettuccini alfredo (or however it is spelled!)
Sometimes it feels like the food is brainwashing me. "Eat me! Eat me! It's no big deal. You know you want to. You love me." Like it's Charlie Manson and I'm Squeaky Fromme. :P
Cleveland, I think what helped me the most was to realize that slow and steady will win the race. You're probably going to see big losses in the first week or so, then it will likely slow down. When it slows down, that's okay. You knew that would happen. Just keep plugging along.
Also, changing one big thing at a time helped me. The first week, I focused on getting enough fluid. Then I cut out caffeine. Then I started logging my food intake. Then I got serious about getting to the gym. Mastering one big thing at a time makes it not so overwhelming.
