Comparison and Curiosity!

So i read things all the time about what people weigh, various sizes... and i am curious. obviously you cant compare yourself to anyone else because of body structure, etc...etc..

but how much do/did you weight and what sizes do/did you wear??

i weigh 196-200lbs depending on the time of day and how much sodium i binged on and i wear a size 14 in most cases. some stores its a 16. in no stores, sadly, has it been a 12.

what about you guys??

FreeSpirit 01-20-2007 10:11 PM

It's strange, I see plenty of girls who say that they're 200 lbs and a size 12! That's deffinately not me.

When I was 230, I was a tight size 22, and now that I'm at 200, I'm a comfortable 18.

It's that horrid gut that I have, yikes!

Nikaia 01-20-2007 10:20 PM

I'm 5'7", 187 lbs, and wear a loose 16 (with a belt) or an almost-uncomfortably snug 14. I wore a size 12 up through about 170 lbs. I'm really looking forward to getting back to that, since most of my clothes are in that size range.

redlight 01-20-2007 10:21 PM

At my highest 174 and a 12.

Now 152, between 8 and 10.

ennay 01-20-2007 11:10 PM

peak 180 something and a ~16
now 152 and a 12

does baffle me because I am pretty damn fit and a friend across the country who is the same height as me, never exercises, weighs 20lbs more and is a 10/12. People say I look thinner than her though

srmb60 01-20-2007 11:11 PM

Sizes make me crazy! I have in my closet a size two and a couple of larges ... they all fit!

almostheaven 01-20-2007 11:52 PM

I was somewhere between 250 and 260, as a guess. I KNOW I was over 250, just not sure if I'd topped 260 or not. And I wore a 22/24. I had gotten down to 140 and was JUST squeezing into 8's, but wore 10's more comfortably (talking Wal*Mart pants here). Since the pregnancy was back down to 145, until the holidays, moving, etc...crept up and am about 148 right now. I can wear some of my old pants that were loose on me before (10's to 12's). Seems like I can wear a size smaller in Misses than in Ladies and one larger in Juniors. IE: an 8 Misses equals a 10 Ladies equals an 11 Juniors.

Glory87 01-21-2007 12:50 AM

I am 5'7" and have a small frame -

around 200 lbs - tight size 18 - 37 inch waist
165 lbs - size 16 - 34 inch waist
155 lbs - size 14 - 32 inch waist
140 lbs - size 10 - 29 inch waist
130 lbs - size 8 (sometimes 6, depending on vanity sizing) - 27 inch waist

chick_in_the_hat 01-21-2007 12:56 AM

I topped out at 264 - that was a size 24...

Now I'm 160, my jeans range from a pair of 14's to a pair of 10's. Tops are usually a medium.

jtammy 01-21-2007 12:59 AM

Currently - at 211, I'm wearing an 18 misses pants, and a 14/16 top.

Cheryl14 01-21-2007 02:23 AM

Hi!

At 5'6" with a large frame I wore/wear the following:

275 lbs.- 3x tops and 24W pants/dresses/skirts

245 lbs.- 1x tops and 22W pants/dresses/skirts

210 lbs.-Misses large tops (12/14 on the label) and Misses 18 pants/dresses/skirts

By the way, I mentioned to my husband about how female clothing sizes are numbers instead of the "by the inches" way that men's clothing works. He said, "You know, MEN would NEVER stand for that! That is WAY too much work to have to try on everything just because sizes are DIFFERENT in different stores!" It got me thinking... Why DO we have to have that problem? Is this only in the USA or is the WHOLE world of women's clothing playing the crazy SIZE GAME rather than measuring in inches?

Cheryl

JayEll 01-21-2007 06:48 AM

I agree with you, Cheryl14! It's nuts! Especially the whole "vanity sizing" thing. I see women who say they wear a 2, and in the old sizing of the past, they would wear a 12 for sure.

I don't care much about sizes for that reason. It's all artificial. I like it when I can wear something smaller, though. I can get into my size 18 suits again (whatever scale they are on) and that makes me happy.

LostBombera 01-21-2007 07:56 AM

Wow . . . sooo different

I'm 5'5", my highest weight 202 and I wear 16 pant and XL top

my lowest 125, I wore a 6 or 8, depending on the cut of the pants and a M or L top

i am that upside down triangle, BROAD shoulders, especially for a girl and for some guys and narrower hips, but I am short-waisted and have always been thick around the middle. when I weighed 120, I had a 29-30" waist, but it didn't look like it because of my shoulders are so broad . . .

iconoclast 01-21-2007 09:38 AM

I generally now wear a 10-12, though I have clothes in my closet that are 6 (usually tops and dresses) and clothes that are 16 (usually pants or shorts). I don't think it's physically possible for me to go lower than a general 8 because of my height and frame, but I'm totally fine with that.

Sizing is pretty inconsistent across the board. I find that the cheaper and "younger" clothes are, the smaller the sizing runs, and vice versa. I mean, I'm an 8 when I go to Holt Renfrew, but definitely a 12 when I go to buy new bar tops.

improbable 01-21-2007 09:49 AM

Hey, I'm 5'7 w/ a medium frame, at 185ish I was a size 12-14 (more 14s), and now at 140-145ish I'm a size 8. Tops, I was always a large to extra large before (DDs baby), but now am a consistent medium, despite the boobs.

MileHighMama 01-21-2007 10:28 AM

I'm 5'7.5" with a medium frame (more apple than pear shapped) and wear a size 6 on the bottom most of the time. I wear a 36D bra, though, which usually means a large or soemtimes a medium top. Here's what I remember about sizing as my weight dropped: 145 is when I started fitting into 6's, 155 was 8's, 165 was 10's and 12's.

Reddalice 01-21-2007 10:38 AM

20 yrs old, 5'3

220 pounds (16/18 pants)

Medium Bust - Shirts vary from Mediums to Xlg

tanya1979 01-21-2007 11:04 AM

this is interesting!

I am just under 5'6 and I weigh 164lbs and I am a size 12 jeans, and 10 skirt or dress. I buy my tops is all sizes m,l,xl whatever looks like it will fit. I was 200lbs at my heaviest and I was in a 16-18 and and at 170-180 I was in a 14. I just recently bought a few pairs of size 12 jeans and they fit perfect, not tight or loose. It's very interesting to see how people's sizes vary according to there hight weight and frame. My goal is to be in a size 7/8, but we'll see about that:?:

Scaramouche7 01-21-2007 01:44 PM

I'm 5'2 and 115 pounds (or less, depending). I wear a 2/3 or a 3/4. It's different for everyone, though.

shelby897 01-21-2007 01:53 PM

I personally would rather wear a "size" than go by my waist size -- I know I'm overweight, don't really want to admit it by knowing how big around I am!!

I'm 5'9"
At 256 lbs I wore a size 20
At my current 239ish lbs -- it's a 18
and my all time lowest of 150 lbs was a size 12 (can't wait to get there again :D )
My problem is the length -- since I'm mostly legs and a short, pudgy top -- I was thrilled when capris came in style, since I had been forced to wear paints that were too short for years!!

Mami 01-21-2007 01:58 PM

I'm 5'2" and weigh 148.5 lbs; I'm wearing a very loose size 12.

just_a_dreamy1 01-21-2007 03:41 PM

I'm 5'5, 120 lbs (I think, I haven't weighed myself in a LONG time and I was 117, so I just presume 120 for the sake of some 'wiggle room' *lol*)...

I wear a size 3 (26) pant, which sometimes feel too big, but 1 is almost always too tight through the thighs, because that is the biggest part of my body. My shirts are XS (most S fit like a bag).

At my highest, I believe I owned one pair of size 11's...but I was mostly a size 7, and wore size M shirts.

nelie 01-21-2007 04:43 PM

When you start going into plus sizes, the sizing gets a bit off. I'm 5'6 and around 256. In department stores, I wear a size 18 pant. In Lane Bryant, I wear a size 20 or 22 pant. Those pant sizes are also for petite pants. I tried on a pair of size 18 plus pants yesterday and they were too big but then I switched to their size 18 plus petite pant and they fit perfectly. I also wear a size 14/16 top or 1x or XL or XXL depending on the top.

When I was around 290, I started wore size 22/24 pants. When I was 350, I wore size 28 pants.

LisaMarie71 01-21-2007 04:55 PM

That's funny, I've always found Lane Bryant's sizes to be bigger than other stores. For example, I can easily button a 16 in their store now but a 16 everywhere else is really tight, like a 14 at LB. I can't believe I'm squeezing into those sizes at all (I weigh 214 now). At my highest weight, 275, I was wearing size 22 pants and some 20s. It's hard to tell what my actual size was back then, because I always tried to wear everything as big as possible. I thought I was hiding something under all that fabric, I guess.

babygrant 01-21-2007 05:06 PM

I'm 173 lbs and a size 18 pants.

Spideranne 01-21-2007 06:42 PM

I seem to be a permanent size 12. I'm 5'6" and have weighed from 150-178 and have never changed sizes. I've just accepted the fact that I must gain and lose weight most in places that have no effect on pants sizes, which is why it so hard to judge how I'm doing without stepping on the scale.

Back in high school I was around 135-140 and was in a size 10.

lilybelle 01-21-2007 06:56 PM

I started at 234 lbs. in a size 20 pants and size 2X shirt with 42DD breasts.
At 200 lbs. I was in a size 14 pants with an XL shirt and 38DD breasts.
At 175 lbs. I was size 10 pants and a large shirtand 36DD breasts.
At 162 lbs. I was size 7-8 in pants with a large shirt and 36D breasts.
Now at 141 lbs. a size 4-5 pants (most brands) and a size medium to large shirts with 36C breasts. I am 5'7. Medium frame I think.

As for panties, started in a size 10, now wear a size 5. I am broad shouldered so need a size 10-12 in dresses.

RidiculouslyAddicted 01-22-2007 01:37 PM

I'm 160 pounds and wear a 12 bottoms, large tops. I'm only 5'3", though. Jeans are a 32 waist. The size hasn't changed since I started (two weeks and 9 pounds ago). I'd like to get into an 8 (6 would be AWESOME but I won't push it) and a 30 waist (again, would enjoy 29, but I don't have much of a waist, so not pushing it). 30 pounds to go...

alinnell 01-22-2007 02:01 PM

I'm 5'8" and at 173 I was a tight 12 (I refused to move to a 14, thus giving me a reason to start losing). I'm now 143 and mostly a 6 or medium. Obviously this must be vanity sizing because a few years ago I was 128 and a size 8 or small. I'm hoping to remain a 6 but lose 10 more pounds. I haven't taken my measurements lately.

Doughnut 01-22-2007 03:03 PM

I'm a little over 5'5" and currently weigh 153. I'm a UK 12-14 (usually a 12) depending on the shop. I think that's a US 10-12.

denice81 01-22-2007 03:21 PM

I'm 5'8" and 160. I have sizes 8-12 in my closet that all fit, but mostly 10's. At my highest of 185, I wore size 14-16. I'm hoping at 140-145 i'll be in a 6.

NESunshine 01-22-2007 05:50 PM

its amazing how we are all so different!
I'm 5'5" and my highest recorded weight was 238 and the largest pants in my closet are a size 22...though they fit at the waist and were extremely baggy in the butt and the legs...and always tapered at the ankle....why is that by the way...is it the clothing makers goal to make the legs of every plus size item of clothing tapered to make people look worse? I'm now at 217 and am in yet again the same dilemma with a size 18 ...fits at the waist comfortably but baggy in the legs and butt...thankfully I'm away from the tapered ankle situation! Shirts are a different story depending on the shirt... I got the lucky stick with my DDD breasts...which even when I was thinner they were never smaller than a DD (and they have been this size since I was about 14) so the shirts have always been larger to fit 'Thelma & Louise' as I call them but then fit me no where else. I suspect that down the line once I've lost all of the weight I'm aiming to lose and have maintained for a year or so I will probably explore having a breast reduction. Clothing is a constant battle. I know that at my smallest I can remember I was a 10 at 190 and close to an 8 at 180....but I was extremely tone.....This time around I expect when I hit 190 I'll be a comfortable 12-14 ish....probably still with XL tops for the girls. I don't think I could make that level of toned happen again.

Ultimate goal would be I guess around a 6ish....but I'll settle for whatever size my body decides its gonna be at when its lean and healthy looking :D

mandalinn82 01-22-2007 06:50 PM

I'm 5'8" with a large frame, and the breakdown has been as follows so far:

295 - 22W
260 - 20W
230 - 18W
220 - 18 Regular
205 - 16
195 - 14
190 - 12

Cheercoach 01-23-2007 11:24 AM

This is an extremely interesting thread!

I have a whole freakin closet full of clothes that don't fit anymore, so I've ran the gammit as far as sizes are concerned. Oh yeah, and I'm 5'4

But my highest at 230 was size 20 from Lane Bryant and 1x or 2x shirt
And now I'm 125 at size 2 or 3 and a small shirt....

jcatron243 01-23-2007 01:01 PM

Wow,

I am at 164, I am 5'4" I am in a 14-16 depending on the style and cut.

Rabmonk006 01-23-2007 01:51 PM

I'm 5'8.5, when i was 135 lbs I was a size 9 and could maybe squeeze into a 7.. when i graduated high school at 145lbs i was an 11(Juniors Sizes).. at 190 a size 16 was just about right, im 183 now and the pair of 16 jeans I bought are a tad loose.. I have a couple 14s that fit also.. so im 14-16 in womens and 15-17 in juniors

rockinrobin 01-23-2007 02:05 PM

At my largest that I know of 287 lbs., I was wearing a size 26/28 and barely at that. It had to be a rooomy 26/28, otherwise it wouldn't even fit me. Oh gosh, thank G-d those days are over.

I have been really, really fortunate in the clothing area since I started this. My clothing size has plummeted. I'm really not sure why, given I'm only 5 feet tall. Maybe cause I have huge boobs and huge calves. I'm wearing a size 14 Regular bottom and a large top from a regular store, in other words not a plus-sized store, still something I have to get used to. But it's funny cause when I was in high school and 135 lbs I was wearing an 11/12. I still can't figure out how I'm in such a small size. But I'm not complaining.

I remember getting used to that. For the longest time, I continued gravitating to the plus section and holding up clothes and realizing none of them fit...they were all too big. :D

rockinrobin 01-23-2007 02:27 PM

Almostheaven, I actually went shopping earlier today. Good friends of ours are being honored at a dinner and we must attend. It's Feb. 11th I think. Anyway, I (obviously) needed something new to wear. I was in Macy's regular sized department with tons of outfits, I loved so many of them. I swear to you I was in the fitting room bawling. Just weeping like a baby, I just couldn't believe they fit me and looked more then decent on me as well. I actually had to decide which to buy as opposed to buying whatever fits. It is without a doubt one of the best feelings in the world.

Mami 01-23-2007 02:36 PM

Yay Robin! I also went out today to find a smaller pair of pants as my ONE pair (I wash them 3 times per week) of size 12s are too big now. So I fit into the size 10s which are the same style and brand as the 12s, so down one size in 6 weeks!
