Default Obese have better taste

Obese have better taste
Date: 6/24/02; Publication: The Mirror; Author: Not specified

THE part of the brain responsible for sensation in the mouth, lips and tongue is more active in obese people, a new study has shown.
The US research found obesity is a complex disease where genetics, over-eating and lack of exercise are all equally responsible.

But it said the increased sensation experienced leads obese people to eat much like it leads addicts to take drugs.

Author Gene-Jack Wang said: "This enhanced activity in the brain regions involved with sensory processing of food could make obese people more sensitive to the rewarding properties of food.

"The heightened senses make food more tasty. It could be one of the reasons obese people over-eat."

The study was commissioned to boost President Bush's campaign for a fitter America.
