Is V8 REALLY a source of veggies?

  • I love the low-sodium V-8 as a mid-morning snack and consider it a vitamin addition to my daily diet. I haven't seen the high fiber one, does it come in low-sodium as well?

I'm not a fan of V-8 splash or fusion since only root veggies are used for the veggie portion (sweet potato and carrots are the base for the Acai berry one), but my husband likes the diet ones. I think they would be better if they used Spinach, Celery and tomato like the regular V-8 does.
  • The biggest problem with juices (fruit or veggie) is the loss of the fiber. Juicing concentrates the calories, meaning you don't get as full, or worse become more hungry (these are carb calories, some of them sugars. And carbs without fiber tend to trigger hunger for many people, especially if not paired with fat or protein).
  • glad to see this posted. I have to admit that I rarely eat fruits and vegetables. (something that I am changing. ) I will be putting some V8 and more vegetables in my fridge today.
  • It is great w/a little bit of tabasco sauce! Seriously. In a glass over ice with a celery stalk.

    Just don't add the vodka . . .
  • V-8 regular or spicy makes a great instant soup. In a mug on a cold day it takes the chill right off. Years ago I would put it in a thermos for my lunch along with a bag of air popped popcorn and toss some in as I ate for crunch and interest. (not all at once or it gets soggy)
  • Never thought of using V-8 juice as a soup. Thanks for the idea
  • I love low-sodium V8. Its tasty, even though I HATE tomatoes). I count it as a serving of veggies. I eat enough fiber without it having pulp anyways.
  • V8 is not a good....or even decent substitute for veggies. V8 is extremely processed - which basically means that all of the fabulous nutrients are dead. You are better off getting an emulsifier blender and making your own V8.
  • I tried V8 roughly a year ago because I wanted to try to increase my veggie intake, somehow. I really didn't like veggies much at all so I'd say it was a last resort. Sadly, I didn't really like it. I don't think I tried any of the V fusions, so maybe I'd like one of those. I may try it again sometime, but these days I consume far more veggies than I did in the past, so it just doesn't make sense to me to waste calories on something like that. I'd rather just eat the veggies themselves.

Yes, I love it as a soup, heated with minced garlic and a teaspoon of non-dairy creamer.

This exactly! Plus there is some controvercy right now about V8 not being vegan which obviously it should be if it only contained vegetables.

There are a lot of homemade recipes online if you still want to drink your veggies. Juicing is good for you but it should not be your only source of veggie intake as you don't get the fibers.
  • I like the low sodium V8 the most... But I have had original and High Fiber as well. I'm sure High Fiber is healthier... But the texture is gross to me. Its too thick.
