Just adopted a vegitarian diet

  • Hi. I only gave up meat last week. I have been thinking about it for along time now but I just could't figuer out how to start. I was searching the net looking up ideas and came across the video "Meet your Meat" and suddenly I was a vegetarian. My family is going to finish up the meat in the freezer then they too will join me. Anyways I could use any ideas on how to cook for please eveyone. Any suggestions on any great meals or products. Any advice would be nice.
    Thanks

Sorry not canadian so can't really give advice on meat substitutes it really varies on whats available depending on where you live.
  • thanks for the links
  • I personally eat a lot of carbs and use supplements like quorn and tofu. you'd prob have no probs getting tofu but I'm not sure about quorn and quorn is veggie not vegan so I'm not sure whether you are going all the way or just cutting out meat. Its really important not to sub all you meat stuff for dairy I started doing that and piled on the weight.
  • i never heard of quorn I'll have to look that up. Yesterday I used a veggie product. I don't remember what it was called but it looked like ground beef. I used it in a mexican recipe that usually would use ground beef so I used have the veggi stuff and a can jof kidney beans. It turned out great, which I was very glad because it is my favorite. My kids loved it too!
  • was it soya protein or something else?

Quorn is great for dieting i know you can get it in some places in the US but not sure about Canada
  • Vegetarian diets are surprisingly similar to any other way of eating. Just cook whatever you'd normally cook, but without the meat! Bean burritos instead of beef, vegetable soup instead of chicken, eggs with a side of toast instead of bacon... and if you go to a restaurant, just order something you would have ordinarily gotten but without the meat. Maybe they could put it on the side for one of your friends or something.
