thank you jillnicole... I thought about it and I really havent been eating enough fruits and veggies... too much rice, bread, etc....

jillnicole03 02-10-2009 12:51 PM

Jasmine... that could do it! I always notice stalls or gain with too much bread, or processed foods. :)

Fat Chick B Gone 02-10-2009 02:32 PM

I'm so glad you guys got to meet! I'm going to a veggie potluck with a meetup group I found here in Charlotte on Sunday. A little nervous to meet people I don't know but I'd love some veggie friends here!

Those green beans sound good!

jillnicole03 02-10-2009 08:41 PM

Yeah, it's awesome how much you can talk about right off the back (with veg friends). I'm so glad I met Darby, she was awesome to spend time with, I bet you'll feel the same way! I hope you go!

Darby1 02-10-2009 10:01 PM

Meeting other veg friends is very cool. Like I said before, I've never met another vegan, so it was great talking to somebody who is having the same challenges and experiences as me. Jill and I are both similar vegans, as far as what we find acceptable and what we don't, which was great.

Don't be surprised, though, if you find some people are really militant about it, or that some people are being vegan because of different reasons (like it's "cool" or it "makes their dad mad" ;)).

I only say that because I have heard that our local vegetarian club is like that. It's been a few years since I heard that, though, so maybe I should check them out.

What are you taking to the potluck?

In other news, I've been eating terribly these last few days. I'm not sure why, but it's going to stop tomorrow. I'm going to start McDougall now and do the best I can with what I have and then go hard core next time I go grocery shopping.

Jill-your green beans look awesome! I made a copy of the recipe and they're on my shopping list already.

jillnicole03 02-11-2009 08:18 AM

Darby.. don't let the past few days sculpt tomorrow :) You can do it! We can share McDougall ideas! It's weird, I really look forward to veggies lol (kind of freaks me out) but that was after the first 2 weeks.
It snowed today! Yuck.. I hate driving in the snow, it took me like 15 minutes to scrape my car and I was freezing.
Where do you usually hike, and how far? I don't feel I'm in great shape these days but I'd love to go with you sometime before I go!!

Good Morning everyone! It's already Wednesday, which is half way to Friday :cheer2:

Fat Chick B Gone 02-11-2009 08:53 AM

Yeah we'll see what type are at the meetup - if nothing else I need to broaden my very small social circle. I have chatted with one of the girls going on a vegan forum so I look forward to meeting her.
I'm just taking a bean dip appetizer. Black eyed peas, onions, jalapenos, spices etc. and some veggies and pita chips to dip it with.

Darby1 02-11-2009 09:57 AM

Hey Jill,
I usually hike around home (there are a couple of trails within a few miles of my house), but I also like to go to Garden of the Gods or other trails in Colorado Springs. I have a book on hold at the library called "5 walks in Denver". I won't be able to get there until Saturday at the earliest, but maybe it will have something in it we can do. I'll let you know. If you want to explore more of Colorado, we could drive up to Boulder or we can meet down here and hike Garden of the Gods. It's really pretty and there's an easy trail around the park.

Heather-your dip sounds good. Have fun! Are you still planning on moving to Oregon? Have you been there before? I really want to check out Portland (possibly to move there someday). I miss water! We have lakes and reservoirs in Colorado, but I have to drive a long distance to get there.

Ok, I need to go plan some meals for today. Have a great day, everyone!

jillnicole03 02-11-2009 02:47 PM

Darby... maybe we can see if there is anything like in the middle of us? between englewood and colorado springs? i get so nervous driving far :o)

Haley8203 02-11-2009 07:14 PM

hey everyone! I bought some new running shoes yesterday. i really didn't have the $90 (they were on sale) but before my shoes were exactly my size and it became really uncomfortable to run, so i bought ones 1 size bigger and it made a huge difference. I ran 4 miles today.

jillnicole03 and Darby-
That's cool that you two were able to meet. I don't know anyone whos vegan or even vegetarian in person.

Fat Chick B Gone-That dip sounds really good, have fun at the get together

jasmine987-I notice a difference when i don't eat enough fruits and veggies too, in fact i'm going through it right now lol i need to be more aware of that!

erinmagill 02-11-2009 08:09 PM

I have been a vegetarian for 16 years and a vegan for 8 and I have still never met another vegan. Strange, huh? I live in canadas "Cattle Country" And 50% of cars have a bumper sticker that says "I Love Alberta Beef"....so you can imagine how hard it is to reach out to anyone else in my area.
I did recently find on facebook a group for other mothers raising their children vegan in Edmonton and it had 12 members...I got really excited and joined then saw that no one has posted anything in months. Sad!
So, Im glad you guys got to meet! I can appreciate how cool that is.

zinkemomx2 02-11-2009 11:28 PM

I'm going out of town for a few days so I'll go with this mornings weight of 245.4 pounds.

I'll be at my mom's but we have been talking a lot lately and I think I have enough stuff in place to stay on plan during my visit. My biggest hurdle will be getting in all my water because Poppa takes any cup/bottle that isn't in a hand. I have my water jug this time though and plan on threatening to cut his arm off and feed it to him if necessary. ;)

A RANDOM EXCITED RANT:
Today is me and my husbands anniversary. I was thinking it would be a write off in terms of diet and going to the gym. Instead he surprised me by having a huge taco salad for dinner and getting a babysitter and going to the gym with me. Hes never gone with me before. I was so proud...I think it was honestly the sweetest thing he could do! Support my lifestyle for the first time ever!

Quillie 02-12-2009 06:03 AM

Congrats Erin!!! How long have you been married? He sounds wonderful!

Are we weighing in tomorrow or on Valentine's for the mini-goal, I think I need the extra day. :) I'm back on track though, and 1 lb away from my goal.
I'm so jealous that you guys get to meet. There aren't many veggies in Belgium, and I've never met another vegan.

Haley8203 02-12-2009 06:30 AM

ya i need the extra day too lol even though i know i have no shot at reaching my goal
