I saw this the other day in the store. Since I'm trying to develop a taste for tofu, it piqued my interest. I did not buy it. I thought I'd come here and ask about it first.
I don't mind tofu in recipes--in fact I have one for an Italian dish that is really, really yummy, but that fruit flavored thing sounds rather gross. I don't even like the smoked tofu--just the plain stuff so it kind of takes on the flavor of what you cook with it.
Yeah, fruit flavored tofu is news to me. I've always used tofu in savory dishes, the only time I've heard of tofu being used for sweet stuff is silken tofu in custard/pudding dessert type things. If the fruit flavored stuff silken tofu or regular?
Are you talking about little fruit custard style tofu desserts? Not my favorite thing, personally. But, tofu is good in smoothies when you want a calcium and protein boost!
No. It is just tofu like the blocks you can buy but it is flavored with different things. I saw them at Safeway in the produce section near all the meatless stuff.
I'm pretty sure I know the stuff... is it by Pete's Tofu 2 Go? Did it come in Peach Mango and Berry flavors? If so I've tried both and while the berry was just okay and tasted a bit like tofu, the peach mango has enough of a crisp, fresh flavor to mask the tofu flavor. They also make some ready seasoned, pressed varieties that are supposedly good to use right out of the pouch that I've been wanting to try. Last night I bought (from Walmart, haven't seen it other places) the sesame flavored cubes to put in pita pocket sandwiches. I'll let you know how they are when I get around to trying it.

I've never tried the fruit flavors, but I use baked and marinated (ready to use) all the time. The baked stuff can just be sliced for sandwiches and wraps. Try the Soy Boy Tofu Lin on wheat bread with mustard and greens, or Caribbean Spice flavor in a side salad with yogurt and grapes.
I also use the Thai flavored White Wave tofu for a stir fry with broccoli and and a few raisins.
I love tofu in mousse and pudding and cheesecake, but putting it in savory dishes is a little daunting. I guess you could use silken in cream sauces for like macaroni and cheese or fettucine alfredo, but grilled or marinated firm tofu is a little scary. I'm happy with veggie burgers and chik'n patties and veggie sausage.

Yep, that's exactly what I was referencing. Little custardy-tofu treats!
