Default Brand new - need "buddys"

I'm brand new to this posting thing, in fact, this is the first post on any forum that I've ever made. But ive been reading other posts on this forum today and it seems like a really good weight-loss site where i can get support from other people in a similar situation to me and support them.

I am 18 yrs old, and am just about to move away from home to uni at leeds. I have been trying to lose weight for a month now and have have some success, a month ago i was 110kg and now iam 102 kg. But i dunno whats going on now my weight wont shift an INCH!! Really dunno what to do and i guess am just looking for some motivation and some new ideas.

This is the xercise routine i try to keep to
swimmimg for 1 hour 5 times a week
walking for 1-1.5 hours 3times a weeks
and some random workout DVD's. Am i doing enough?
all suggestions welcome

Hi shmoo!

Your exercise routine sounds great, I love swimming.

What's your food like? It's all about calorie deficit. I find swimming makes me hungry and I have to work really hard to make sure I am not eating more (not succeeding at the moment, hence my stall, I've lost 30 kilos - now I'm stuck!)

Hey!

You are going to have such an awesome time at uni! I'm going into my 3rd year at Edinburgh and absolutely love it! Just watch the booze...unfortunately it has calories too My friend went to uni in Leeds and absolutely loved it so I'm sure you'll have a fab time!

Sometimes our bodies get into a routine just like we do so maybe switch up your exercise for a bit? Maybe go cycling instead of walking for example. Also, I definitely recommend that you join a gym at your uni (hopefully they have one!) that way you can take classes and try lots of different ways of exercising and it's a really good way of getting rid of the stress etc. of uni work and chilling out! I love it!

Also, are you drinking enough water? Sometimes a plateau is because you're retaining water so maybe up your fluid intake?

Hopefully this helps a little! If you ever need a buddy or a chat just let me know!

Good luck

ooooh cool you're coming to leeds uni! What you gonna be studying? I was at Leeds uni from 2004-2005 but then I took time off to have my daughter, so I'm going back next month to start from scratch as a first year undergraduate again as I've changed courses to do Classics.
Maybe we can meet up sometime and go to the gym or something?

no I'm a leeds lassy anyway so I already have a house....also no sorry, no pool, but there's lots of pools in leed so don't worry for swimming laps you can use the international swimming pool in leeds city centre - its more a sport kinda pool than a leisure one (if that makes sense).

I know how frustrating plateaus can be - but I'd agree with the advice you've been given already. Your body tends to resist change and so mixing things up a bit on the activity front can sometimes kick start things again. It's also easy to get a bit disheartened by the weight never shifting and that's when the discipline of eating the right foods can start to drift.

Whatever you do, don't give up

Hi Shmoo! Welcome! You picked a great forum to be your first. And yah, those plateaus can be maddening and that is when we have to just hang in there! Congratulations on your weight loss!

I was always told the slower the weight moves the easier it will be to keep it off permenantly. I went to uni, finished in May last year. I had a afab time, pretty sure I put weight on, but back then I wasnt nowhere near as conscious as I am now. I dont know how it happens, its almost as though one day you look in the mirror and think **** after feeling fine for so long. Anyone else been like that or is it just me?
