Help addicted to sugary drinks and snacks!

Hi all,
I am new to this site, and would like some help/tips on ways to cut out the fizzy drinks and snacks! I am trying to lose weight for myself to help my self esteem and confidence, but the main problem I have is that every time I try to cut out the fizzy drinks I end up drinking more of them than before. I also work in the offices of a chocolate factory and recently I have been moved department and chocolate and sweets are always left on the desks, so temptation of eating sugary snacks are very high.
If anyone has any tips I would be very grateful :)

Hey,

Welcome to the site! I have to say your job sounds amazing, but I can imagine how much harder things would become too!

A few months ago I was the same, i was pretty much addicted to a diet coke! The best way I have found to cut it out is to phase it out, try and cut down slowly, I found that by decreasing the amount I drank over a few weeks meant that when I stopped I didnt miss it as much. Also a friend of mine replaced fizzy drinks with a few drops of squash to her water, you might wanna give that ago.

Hope this helps X

I wish the job was as amazing as it sounds, I have a job interview coming up though so fingers crossed I shall be away from the world of chocolate soon.

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a go. x

I'm blessed with hating soda. My body doesn't process it well. (I'm hyperglycemia, and pure sugar foods hit me like a brick wall.)

My suggestion is, instead of trying to completely cut it out, limit yourself. Try drinking only half a can of (a soda) a day.

I can't help you with the sweets, though. Sitting next to a table of chocolates...

I had the same problem. I drank maybe eight or more diet sodas a day. The only liquid I consummed. Fats, sugar and flour combinations, the gooier the better, was most of my daily diet. Well I fazed out the soda and sweets. I have been off sugar and baked stuff totally for about six weeks and it gets easier everyday. So I know you can do it too if you are determined. Good luck with the new job and your mission.

HI,
Eat more protein to guard against the sudden drop of sugar levels.

Make sure that breakfast includes protein as well as cereal.

As far as possible, cut out refined foods that are full of sugar and white flour.

If the craving for something sweet is overwhelming, eat it after a meal so the effects will be minimized by the other food eaten.

Make a change in shopping habits. Buy more healthy foods and cut out the refined products.

Make wise choices when eating out.

Beware of substituting coffee or fizzy drinks for sugary treats.

Distractions such as going for a walk or reading a magazine can be helpful.

I go jogging in the mornings and that has helped a lot and also you can start slowly by having one to two cans a day depending on how much you have.

There are many good flavored teas out that you can have hot or cold. Sweeten them with a little stevia, if you have that there, and you have a zero calorie drink or close. Stevia, unlike most other sweeteners, does not have an insulin impact.
Green tea is suppose to help speed up your metabolism. Though for me it has to be flavored or it tastes a little too earthy for my taste.

I second the squash. I add just a little of the no-sugar-added kind into my water when I'm craving something sweet to eat.

Oh my, me working in a chocolate factory would seem like some cruel cosmic joke. I admire the willpower you have to try to resist!

Is it cola youre drinking? I found it easier to get off cola by going to something like sprite and then onto diluted barley waer or squash, rather than giving up straight away I'm all for weaning off things and making it easier xx
