Irish chicks
Hey,
no particular reason for this, but was just chatting to 2 other Irish Girls on a different thread (irish Katt & Bonnie), and thought I would do a bit of a call out to the Irish Chicks, and see how everyone is gettin on! I am a Dublin chickie |
Hey!!!
Dublin girl here too :carrot: |
Hiya!
I have a feeling that all of us irish girls hide a bit, because we know just how easy it is to bump in to someone you know in Ireland!! I t's a bit like six degrees of separation, except in Ireland it is rarely more than 2 or three degrees!!! |
It's so true. The first thing I think no matter what site etc I'm on when I see Dublin is 'oh I wonder if I know them' Ha!
|
I know, and if you don't then the likelyhood is that one of your brothers or sisters were in school or college with them!
|
So true!!
|
Im a dublin girl myself, just joined today! are there only 3 of us?
|
Seems there are! !
:irish: |
Thats mad, you would think there'd be more Irish out of the millions of people on 3fc, considering how much we get around! well good luck to the both of you!
|
hiya! i'm a cork girl! its great to see i'm not the only irish person on here, it can get a bit lonely when the other ladies are talking about products and shops in the states.
so what method of weight loss are ye doing? i'm in weight watchers myself. |
I'm following the mediterranean diet! nice to see another Irish member!
Sarah |
Hiya,
Ah, i've come across a few other Irish girls here, i'd say there's defo a good 10?? I am on pretty low calorie diet with hardly any carbs, lots of veggies and lean protein - not too much fun, but I am nearly at the point now where I have to start re-introducing other foods back - ie the really hard bit!!! |
Wow! Well you've done amazingly so far, you clearly have great resolve so I don't think you will find it too hard :) Well done
 |
Hi Girlies.
I'm from Limerick, but living in Dubai. This is my first ever forum, scary! I've just spent 7 weeks back in Limerick and with propper "mammy" cooking I managed to put on 5kgs/11lbs. So its back to the grind stone for me. I have about 16kgs/36lbs to loose. well that my goal anyway. Not sure how easy it will be to stick to any sort of diet while I'm in Oz over christmas! I'm trying to follow the Closer Diets GI plan. So far so good! Its nice to meet ye all xx |

its not very Irish to be hanging around on a cheerful positive web forum, admittedly - but I'm a bit addicted to it!!! |

what's your weight goal -loss needed? |
Wow Ellie. 101lbs so far. Its obvisiously working for you! Amazing! If only I have half of your determination I'll be doing fine.

this is my third time losing about this much weight - so am very anxious about not letting it happen again!! |
By the way can anybody tell me how I get a ticker at the bottom of my post like you do? I think it would be a nice little motivational tool for myself!
|
Hiya - I copied and pasted this from another place....but also you have to be signed up for 2 weeks, i think, and have 20 posts before you have access to do this...
Weight Trackers: If you would like to add a ticker to your signature, here's how to do it. Go to User CP in the purple tool bar above. On the left side choose Edit Signature. At the top of that page is where you follow the directions to make a ticker. It will walk you through the process. When you're finished making it, the code will appear. There are actually several codes visible, choose the one that says for use on 3FCs. Highlight it and then hit CTRL and the C key. Then go back to the original Edit Signature page. You can do this by hitting the BACK button several times. Then on that page, scroll down and you'll see a text box. Click your cursor into that box and then hit CTRL and the V key. The code that you copied should now be there. You can add a name or message in that box too if you want and that will become your "signature". When you're finished you'll need to scroll down just a bit further and hit Save Signature. Then you should be good to go. |
Thanks Ellie.
Yes I think I have to wait 20 days, but as soon as my 20 days are up I'll be back to post one. And hopefully I'll be a fair few lbs down.......woo hoo....positive thinking!!! |

don't forget you have to have 20 posts too1 |

Anyway I know I'm off topic a bit but I was interested in what you said Ellie. I've never lost as much as you have but I lost 4 and a half stones before & put it all back on and more. A friend of mine lost a huge amount on Lighter Life and then put it all back on, and I looked up a lady who used to be on here and lost 14 and a half stones, taking over 2 years, and she put it all back on. I don't want to start feeling defeatist but it worries me that I'll put in all this effort now only to end up going the same way. So; I was just wondering, do you have any thoughts on how you'll keep it off? Do you feel like your head's in a different place this time? I hope you don't mind me asking. |
Quote:
No, not at all. I think you have to believe it will be 'different this time', when in the process of losing weight, otherwise you just couldn't do it but I think its the fear that's different for me this time, I think I've been a bit more blase about it in the past...as in, of course I won't put it on again, so why even worry too much about it. But, I have demonstrated to myself that I can and will put it all on again even after all the effort. So this time in particular that issue of keeping it off once achieved has been on my mind a lot more. Also I'm a bit older now, and it is kind of my last chance to just be a thin person, ie meet a guy, start a family as a thin person, when previously it seemed like there was more time (a bit weird I know!!) I am really looking forward in a weird way to the maintaining bit. you know actually trialling out what I can and can't eat calorie wise, and finding a balance that fits me. In a kind of sabotagey way, though i've been slim(ish) about this weight now - i have never actually got all the way to goal. So, that has been a big thing in my mind this time. get to goal - Step 1. Start a new phase and maintain it - Phase 2. Anyway, long ramble, and have lots more thought on the topic, happy to chat more on it again, but want't to watch telly now!! |
Hi im irish too...and from dublin ....can i jump onto this forum too....please please...lol...

Good thinking Ellie. I typed you up a long response earlier then lost it all by accident. I'm not going to attempt to recreate it now on my phone so I'll have a go later.
|
Whoops, I havent posted since my first day, feckin real life! I'm theoretically following weightwatchers (i point in my head but always forget to write it down) and ive gone up about 6 lbs in the last 3 months so i need to get my bum in gear! i blame cadburys for my weight gain... ;)

Ah well keep at it... one small piece of advice though...why not aim to maintain for the next 5 weeks or so, as it is really tough to lose weight over xmas etc. I know that may sound a bit defeatist, but if your aim is maintenance, then no extra weight put on over xmas, and a clean slate in january, as well as not being disappointed in yourself, but pleased at having achieved the goal of staying same! |
Good tip Ellie R, I think it'll be less daunting than attempting pre-christmas weight loss! I noticed you said in an earlier post that you're not eating a lot of carbs, how do you stay off them? theres always loads of white bread and jacobs cream crackers and butter in my house because my granny lives with us so the temptation is always there! is it easier just to go completely cold turkey than to try and moderate?
|
Thing is, i think it is prob way healthier to try and moderate it, but for me, yep cold turkey is the only way.
NO WHITE BREAD EVER AGAIN!!!!! Its sad because I love it so much, but it is just a nutritionally empty filler Seriously its bad for you, and to me everything is a potential Brennans bread sandwich, I think it is one of the key things to stay away from bread |
Hey there,
Delighted to see an Irish contingent on board - best of luck to you all. |
im irish too!
Only starting out...im about 130 wanna get down to 112 |
Hiya Unique Chick...welcome aboard, lots of advice and stuff to help here!!
You might want to have a look at the featherweights forum for those 18lbs. Are you very tiny height wise? i hope so with that weight goal!! |
Hello, Dubliner here! I joined about a week ago but was still in the mammys house so there was no point dieting. Back to normal life now so have to shed some weight, most of it not christmas related...
|
Hiya,
welcome along, best of luck, lots of good advice for ya here! |
Welcome & Good luck!
|
Starting Over Again....
Hey guys heading back to the dreaded weight watchers tonight.....wish me luck....im prob up about 2 stone since last weight in....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:?::?::?:
|
best of luck, and don't let any gain set you back.....that is probably the biggest key to successful weighloss - ie ability to start over if you have been a bit bad, rather than just abandoning all together!!
