Default Hi, I'm new...

Hi there,
I have been reading the various threads on this site, and as an avid yoyo dieter (not by choice but low self control) I have seriously thought about asking my Dr for xenical. My dad was on it but had the awful orange oil and stopped as he wasn't informed this could happen. I am 5'6 almost 14stone, a size 16, I really don't look my weight as I am quite muscle dense but have gained alot of fat around my stomach, and thigh's. I have been to slimming world 3 times and the 1st time I lost 1st3lbs which i was really happy with. i then gained it back and more, the following times I lost a max of 9 lbs and gained more back, I can't keep doing this and I leave because it's expensive and I have no time spare to attend the classes.
Anyway my question is....
At what stage will a Dr. prescribe Xenical and do you think I would be a suitable candidate?
My diet is healthy and I exercise alot more when I weigh less but as I am it hurts my hips.
please help

Thanks muchley

i'm not an expert but i think your dr would look at your history and say that you could lose the weight without the medication. at least that's what i'd do if it was me. i'm a lot heavier than you (see my ticker) and i've not been prescribed it but i've never asked. i think they'd want to see that you were dangerously overweight before they prescribed medication.

Hey Kosh,

In the U.S. it isn't Doc prescribed anymore. You only need an Rx if you want a stronger version of it. You can purchase it over-the-counter. I am currently taking it but am weaning myself as I find my lifestyle doesn't call for it anymore. I feel confident that between calorie counting and exercise I can maintain my loss and finish off to my goal. I began in a size 16/18 in June. Currently, I am in an 8. If you have any specific questions I would be glad to answer them for you. The biggest thing I can say is that if you follow the Alli plan for eating, you will not experience the yucky side effects. If you do not stick consistently to a lower calorie diet, you are not likely to reap many (if any) weight loss benefits from taking the pill.

ETA: By U.S. standards you would meet the qualifications advised by the medical community to start the pills if you are in otherwise, good health.

I've not heard of xenical before. Good luck with the weightloss though : )
