Hi

Welcome back Sarah.... the only time I'm losing weight and you're not here to jot it down.

Last night I weighed in and I had lost another 1lb, so that's 5 now!!!

I more weigh in before I go away on holiday.

The loss should have been better BUT I had too much falling down water at the weekedn ;-) I'll do better this w/e.

Well done again TQ. 4stone is a LOT of weigh.

Sarah Ann 05-23-2002 03:08 AM

Well done TQ and Jan!!!!!

I wish you better luck with the falling down water this coming weekend, Jan. A pound is a good loss - I'm always complaining that I only ever lose a pound a week, but it really does mount up if you keep at it. I have just been reading back along the threads and I am so sorry to hear about your Mum. {{{{ hugs }}}}

TQ!! OMG!!!! 4 STONES!!! Party time round your house, then?? This is a brilliant time for you to go and pile up 500g packs of lard in the supermarket - (4 stones = 51 of 'em)...

Jano 05-23-2002 03:56 PM

Thanks for your good wishes Sarah and welcome back.

I have started doing a low carb diet and its is working very well for me. I am taking the sensible option and working in as much fruit and veggies as I possibly can.

Although its only 5lbs I feel much thinner and my clothes are looser on me.

The big try on is this wekend.... that's when I try to get into summer clothes and shorts to decide what to take away with me....I MAY need a lot of luck

Sarah Ann 05-24-2002 02:35 AM

Jan - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your holiday clothes fit!!

I've always had a problem with the idea of a low carb diet because bread/potatoes/rice/pasta are such a large proportion of my meals but I have heard really good things about it, provided you don't go nuts and try doing the Atkins diet!

LOL... I have a memory of years ago trying out a carb free diet... which involved eating as much eggs and bacon for brekkie and snacks as I liked and just fish, meat and cheese at other meals (fruit and veg and all other carbs were forbidden) - and in those days I drank white coffee, but ordinary milk was a no-no on that diet, I had to use double cream which floated in greasy blobs on the surface... which was when I started drinking black coffee! That diet lasted about a fortnight.....

I know low carb diets are totally different nowadays but it is definitely that memory which has put me off the idea! :dizzy:

weigh in report

Hi everyone

Welcome back sarah we missed you :)Please don't tell me how many packs of lard I should be stacking up, the thought of 51 was enough to make me feel sick

Great job on the weightlosses TQ and Jan ... you are both doing great :)

After having a few miserable and depressing weeks of staying the same and gaining a pound, this week I seem to have got my act together again . I weighed in this morning and for once I was looking forward to it. The only thing that was slightly bothering me was that I had to weigh in early. Well I could either weigh in early or much later than my normal time because of going to the hairdressers and after that, out to lunch with an old friend ( I wasn't eating lunch though I already had it planned and I wanted to wait until I got home ). I decided that I would weigh myself before I went, because the longer in the day it went before getting weighed especially without eating anything would mean I would probably weigh lighter and next week it may affect my weight loss when I went back to my regular weigh in time.
I know I always weigh more first thing in the morning so I was absolutely thrilled when the scales said another 3lbs gone. That goal of 199lbs is now just another 3lbs away and you can bet your sweet bippy I am going to be working very hard this next week to try and reach it at next weeks weigh in. another good incentive is that when I have lost another 2lbs it will mean a total loss so far of 11 stone. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I realise that I really have lost that much weight, I mean that is a whole person :)

As for my hair. I think the hairdresser was more nervous than I was. After she had coloured it and was about to start cutting it her hands were shaking...lol
Once she had cut it she was really pleased with it and she relaxed a lot more because she knew it really suited me and she could tell I really loved it .
After she was done, I went into town to meet my friend I used to work with when I was a veterinary nurse. I haven't seen her for over 9 years. When I walked into the surgery, she said hello do you have an appointment. I said yes with you. she just stood there saying oh my god..oh my god, I can't believe its you. She really didn't recognise me :)
On my way home I just had to call in to my sisters to show her the new me and for once in her life she was speachless believ me that really is a sight worth seeing...my sister always has something to say :). She stood there with her hands over her mouth and tears in her eyes. She said she has always loved me and she has always been proud of me, but she is so very proud of me now. Honestly, the feeling I had when I saw her standing there looking at me with tears in her eyes was just unbelievable, I can't find the words to really explain it.
I think I have just become used to the fact that I am working hard at losing this weight and focusing each week on how well I do that I really don't take the time to look at the difference in myself now from when I started...I do occasionally but I never really take it all in, it is really only at times like today when it hits home just how far I have come and I realsie that it isn't only me that feels proud of what I am doing :)

Well ladies I hope you are all having a good week and that your weekend is even better and Sarah it really is great to have you back :)

You deserve the pat on the back Ali, your achievement is tremendous. Well done you are going to get there, you really are.

I am surprised you weigh more in the mornings, i weigh about 5lb less in the morning than in the evening, anyone else weigh more in the morning??

New hairdo's are brilliant arent they, I am having my hair cut on Saturday and am really looking forward to it. Nowt drastic but just getting shorter each visit, I always had short hair when I was slimmer and I am going to be a bit daring and go a bit shorter this time.
Wish me luck!!

Posy 05-24-2002 11:19 AM

Thanks TQ

My doctor told me I weigh more in the morning because my body is slow at releasing the fluid I take in. I always try to drink at least 2 litres of water a day and if I haven't drunk it all I make the effort and drink it just before I go to bed...most normal people would be up half the night on the loo, but not me...I don't wake up needing the loo either, I am usually up and about for at least 2 hours before I need to go...but oh boy when I do ...I really do

When I was in hospital having my son I was on a drip and they pumped 7 litres of fluid into me, after 7 and a half hours I had passed nothing, the doctor insisted there was something wrong and put a catheter in but still nothing came out...after 9 hours it did all 7 litres of it plus another 2 litres for good measure :)

New hairdo's a great boost I agree especially after the reactions I have had today...good luck with yours I can't wait to see it :)

Low Carb

Hi all

Thanks for your good wishes Posy.

For Sarah and anyone else who is interested. Because of the problems with mom this year, I found that I lost the time between February and end of April. This meant that I was so close to my holiday (next Friday) and really panicing about my size, in particular my waist as I was worried that my holiday clothes would not fit. I needed something to give me results so I did look at the Atkins diet. A colleague at school "sort of" started doing it (she's not really fat at all just gained a few lbs with the passage of time) and in no time at all her skirts were really loose. So I decided to give it a go, and yes I did base it on the Atkins but I tried to make sure that I had plenty of the allowed veggies and fruit which is very high in carbs.

The biggest problem I have had is tryingto forget everything I ever learned about low fat diets, because things that are low in fat are usually high in carbs. Now I am into it I am doing ok. I haven't missed the rice, pasta, potatoes at all. What I have missed are the occasions when I have had convenience foods, like fish in breadcrumbs... that is mega in carbs.

However the plus side is that you can eat any amount of fish, eggs, meat and poultry. Salads with the most delish dressings which are not allowed on low fat diets, cheese and onion salad with coleslaw, I adore and that's what I am doing. In addition you can have some lovely sauces to put on meat and fish but I haven't got that adventurous yet.

The protein really fills you up and that's why you don't need the bulk to do it. In fact I am told and have experienced it to a degree that the protein takes away the appetite and it is easy to get into a situation where you are NOT EATING ENOUGH - I love it!!!!(me not eating enough ????- never LOL!)

I feel much better in myself, I am not sleepy in the day at all, at any time and I sleep better at night. My stomach has gone down loads and altough I haven't tried the clothes on yet, I am certainly nearer than I was to them fitting. My skin feels softer and I have loads more energy. Previously come 9.00pm I was no good for anything and had to talk myself into doing the chores that I needed to do for the next day. Now, no probs, I vacuum late at night and don't think twice.

At the moment I have no ideas how many carbs per day I am having (only been at it 10 days) but I have bought a carb counter and when I return from holiday, and once I have shifted the holiday gain I am going to start to count so that I can get to a point where I can eat the maximum allowed and still lose weight. I am not stopping this now..it is too good to be true. I don't go overboard with the fats because at the end of the day I know too much is bad, but I do treat myself to sugar free jelly, topped with strawberries and double cream.... brilliant.

I have stopped drinking in the week again but have my wine on Friday and Saturday nights as usual. If anyone wants to give this a go there is plenty of info on the net and in the Low Carb section of this board.

Sorry to go on but this is really good..if anyone wants to know more just ask, I am no expert but I may be able to help.

Jx

If I can get a few days in a row on program then I might be brave enough to stand on the scales. Am trying to avoid them at the moment, but they are in the bedroom cupboard shouting on me all the time - think they feel a bit unloved at the moment. :D

On my birthday I made a pact with myself to try and lose half a stone every month between now and christmas and I will see an amazing difference - what is a few months out of my life ?

Only I can make it happen

flumper 05-27-2002 03:22 AM

oh dear i diminished the grand total

:( :(

never mind as i said above i have banished the demons and im now back on track, exercise will pe a problem though as im doing nightshift and just fall into bed, but when wether picks up i could walk the 4 1/2 miles home

flumper 05-27-2002 05:10 AM

found this on another thread but as were all here posting on various threads for the same end i thought id borrow it:D
