Now listen you two - don't get depressed - you are doing something about it!!! You should go back to the calculator and put in your weight/height before you started dieting and see how much it has come down.... What a pair you two are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
49.3 before WOW!
|
My friend in America 'shared' with me that her's is ..... 73! She won't tell me what she weighs.... but I do know that she is 5ft 7 - same as me. Frightening....
|
BMI at heaviest weight I was 38.6 and severely obese am now 36.4 and still severely obese. Got to get to 15 stone before I am 'just' obese. Far too depressing.
Carol |
Anyone able to recommend a good pair of scales - Tanita excluded of course :D

Well actually its more like 5 days! Coz I weight myself every Tuesday and last Tuesday I weighted myself and I hadnt lost anything in the week, so I went to the gym and to yoga and weighed myself again on Thursday & I still hadnt gone down at all! But I weighed myself on Tuesday & I'd gone down 4lbs! WHy cant every week be like this! Lol! So now Starting weight: 184lbs Current weight: 178lbs Target weight: 126lbs Lost/gained this week: - 4lbs Total lost: 6lbs Remainder to be lost: 52lbs |
I have lost 2 and 3/4 lb this week! YAy!!
Total loss for jan: 9 1/4 lb I will be so happy if I can do as well in feb, here we go!! |
BMI 73 = ?stone @ 5ft 7"?
Sarah Ann, Your friend would have been 449.7lbs, or 31st 7lbs in weight!
449.7lbs = 204.4 Kg 5ft 7" = 1.675 m or 2.80 m squared 204.4/2.80 = 73 It takes a calculator and courage of your convictions (I am useless at converting stones to kilos and feet and inches to metres) to work out your own BMI. If you don't want to rely on a commercial calculator here is an example: It is weight in kilos divided by height squared in metres. So my weight 14stone 7lbs is 203lbs (14 x 14 +7). Coverted to kilos is 92.3 (divided by 2.2. That one's easy it's written on every bag of sugar 1kilo = 2.2lb) My height is 5ft 5" or 65 inches (5 x 12 + 5) Convert to cm 162.5 (65 x 2.5), or 1.625 m which is 2.64 when squared 92.3 divided by 2.64 = BMI 34.96 Moderately Obese! Hope this is intersting to someone, though I really doubt it! Stef |
That took a bit of working out!
Mines 32.62, is that moderately obese as well? |
31st 7lbs????????????? She emailed me a picture of herself.... she said it was a bit out of date - more like 20stones out of date! Poor woman - no wonder she has got appalling health problems.
Steff - sorry - my maths is totally appalling, I think I'll carry on with the commercial calculators. How are you doing on your diet/fitness plan? ChiChi - well done on the 4lbs! The way to diet on a long term basis is to pace yourself on your diet - don't drop your calorie intake too low and don't skimp on the healthy stuff - fruit, veggies, carbs, low fat dairy and lean protein - because you need to re-educate yourself how to eat in a moderate way for when you are at goal. (So you don't repeat all this in a couple of years like I have done all my life). |
Yes I think we should all commit to do it once and do it right!!
This is the last diet we do anbd once we get there we are staying there:spin: |
Hello
Sorry I wasn't able to post my progress last week as I was enjoying a long weekend in Brussels. I will post my weight tomorrow when I assess the damage. We did a lot of walking but I fear the Belgian beer (yummy) and cream-filled eclairs may have over-ridden the walking. Brussels is fantastic, I would definitely recommend it for a weekend away. Everybody seems to be doing well on their plans, congrats to all the losers, I hope to be rejoining you soon. :) |
BMI classifications etc
Chi Chi yes you too are moderately obese.
BMI less than 20 is underweight with increased risk of clinical complications BMI 20 - 24.9 is the desirable range BMI 25 - 29.9 is overweight with some increased health risk BMI 30 - 34.9 is Obese Class 1 with moderate increases to health risks BMI 35 - 39.9 is Obese Class 2 with severe increases to health risk BMI 40+ is morbidity, severely obese, Class 3 with very severe increases in health risks. However the increases to health risks ARE LESSENED if you are fit and active. This is why I say I am fat AND fit. I am Class 2 Obese but have low cholesterol and a BP of 110 over 68. At 36 years old that is a fit heart! In fact it is much better than the GP who is always telling me I should lose weight or I will stress my heart etc. I now only go to see him wearing my aerobics instructors clothing. HA HA! Sarah Ann the diet is going slowly, mainly cos it is not a real diet. I think I said at the start that I would be mainly relying on exercise. I've had enough of that so I shall begin the diety bit properly! Read you all later, husband is back and getting nosy! STef |
Stef
Can you do mine please
5' 2" and 12.00 stone |
I find it really weird to think of myself as obese! when I hear the word obese the thing that springs to mind is really huge people who get tired just walking up the stairs or down the street!
Im only a size 14/16 which is much bigger than I want to be but somehow doesnt seem like obese! |
Chi Chi I know where you are coming from, it is one of these medical terms which we end up labelled with. I'm a size 20, but an active & relatively fit one - not in Stefs league - yet !!!
I do describe myself as a bigger or larger lady but that word obese - it's horrible. I always consider very large people, like some of those on fat club, you know the ones, over about 25 stone to be obese - not me. Just shows what I know. One day my BMI will come back & show 'healthy' = it's going to be a long journey though - just need to sit back & enjoy the ride. Carol |
BMI stuff again!
Jano, your BMI is 31.8. That makes you officially obese, class 1.
Like Chi Chi says that hardly seems fair does it? At 12 stone you're hardly in the really big zone. However, the name they give it doesn't really get noticed by me anymore. So I feel I should explain myself. I am an obesity researcher I write it every day so it doesn't mean anything to me anymore. I would like to apologise, I should have changed the wording or pointed out that it is the increased risk rating that we should all be taking notice of! Here in the UK all the info we get seems to be weightist. No campaign, GP, TV programme or magazine ever seems to take the time out to explain WHY being overweight is a bad thing on a personal level. We get told we're bad, sad, lazy, greedy, weak willed people and should feel ashamed of ourselves. But no-one ever says 'Hey did you know.....?" So, Hey girls did you know that as obese women we are: 1/3 more likely to suffer from a stroke or osteoarthritis, almost twice as likely to have angina or ovarian cancer, more than 3 times more likely to suffer from a heart attack or colon cancer, and almost 13 times more likely to develop diabetes late in life. If we got this information and knew that someone in our family who had suffered from one of these diseases I am sure we would take more notice. But no-one out there seems to want to help us understand this or help us get the kind of support and help, aims and targets we really need. That's one of the reasons I started to talk on these sites. If anyone wants to know more about their body, how they can help themselves make the kind of changes that really would help lose weight slowly, safely and permanently WE NEED TO TALK TO EACH OTHER. Between us we must have loads of experiences we can all learn from. And other people like me, obese and educated in the right subjects, should be here too to offer our help to everyone! Hobby horse alert! I repeat Hobby horse alert! Sorry. But feel free to take me to task. Stef |
WEEKLY WEIGH
Can I join in the whole weigh in totals thing please??!!
I weighed in last night (thurs) And....Lost 5 lb ! Woohoo! Thats a total of 24 1/2 lbs now which meant I got my 10% keyring from WW...I'm extremely pleased with myself!:D Kyles Start weight: 233lbs Start date 22/11/01 This weeks Loss: 5lbs Total Loss: 24 1/2 lbs Halfway Goal : 168lbs by 13/7/02 (birthday) Goal: 133 lbs by 22/11/02 |
STef
Thanks for that - what does class 1 mean?
Janet |
Thanks for telliing us that, Steff - somehow it has made me feel worse not better, though.
Like I am under more pressure. |
Stef I agree with what you said esoecially the talking to each other bit. I really think if we stick at this we will get there, I know I am not alone.
|
So I'm officially morbidly obese  when I think of that I imagine a huge huge person probably in usa on a talk show who before they got to the studio hadn't come out of their house for 10 years as they cant fit through the door! Now I know I am F A T but I can walk quite far and run up stairs but am still morbidly obese like I am about to drop dead at any minute strange my doctor has never even mentioned my weight must look healthier than I am officially!!
|
I was told I wass morbidly obese last year (still am I think!) before I had an op, it did make me get down to it but it is the rest of the weight that is going to be hard, the op is over, I just want to show them a big difference when I go back to the hospital in MaY.
|
Well, knowing I am officially Obese - class 1 has certainly made me sit up and take notice. I've had a brill day today on the SW diet and tonight is my oficial blow out night, its what I save for but, I am going very carefully and trying to take it easy with the drink. The Buddy thingy has bleeped at me so I'm into Bonus exercise and not doing too bad at all, I just hope this B***** diet works. Didn't have a drink last night (never been known) so I am SERIOUS this time!!
BPB - got the tape, started doing it, got to aerobics 3 and the 'phne range. The moves are very similar to the one I have but it is much faster - I look forward to doing it all Phew!! (that's my new rebounding tape, for anyone who doesn't know) |
Well - I just tried to work out the figures for this week, but too many people have stopped posting theirs gains or losses to make sense of it all... and, of course, we have had a few people joining - and some of them have posted losses, but haven't told me what their goal losses are... so... this thread doesn't really seem like such a good idea after all.
Congratulations to our losers: Carol : -1lb Veggie: -2lbs ChiChi: -4lbs TQ: -2.75lbs and commiserations to the people who gained - we ALL know how disheartening that can be.... and I managed to lose 2lbs this week as well. My stats: (Original start weight April 01: 16st 3lbs) Start Weight this time (02 Jan 02): 14st 10lbs Current Weight: 13st 11lbs Target Weight: 10st 7lbs Total lost since 02/01: 13lbs Remainder to be lost: 3st 4lbs Current BMI: 30.2 Loss this week: 2lbs |
Sarah well done on the 2lbs. You are doing amazingly you seem to really watch what you eat & then walk for miles with your dog across the moors everyday.
Keep going your consistancy is turning you into a role model for the rest of us. Well done again Carol |
Congrats Sarah :D
|
I agree with BPB and Sal, congrats Sarah. You are fast becoming the UK3fc role model and certainly an inspiration.
|
I lost a pound. The thread is a good idea Sarah so stop thinking it isn't well done on your loss :)
|
:o :spin: :dizzy: <blush> I don't know what to say.... very unusual for me!
How about we keep the thread on and keep posting our losses each week, perhaps with our stats - just to keep ourselves on our toes.... and I'll do a sort of summary each week - how's that???????? There are so many people who don't visit here any more or just pop back every now and again. Its always lovely to see them when they do visit - but for a maths phobic like me it makes it nearly impossible. I bet I have a gain next week now you lot have said all those nice things! |
Of course the thread is staying I need it even if its just me posting  I need the support a lot dont desert me Im desperate!!!! Im morbidly obese you know I need help!!!!
|
Veggie - I'm not going anywhere - nor is the thread - I need the help as well.
|
I need this thread - I need to see how I'm doing in black & white in front of me every week.
I will be posting a gain this week, but won't screw our stats too much as I aim to lose whatever I gain in the next few weeks. Together we can do, alone .... I would have fallen by now & not got back up. Carol |

I think the thread is a great idea too it is wonderful to see all those stats and see how people are shrinking week by week. We will all have times when we need picking up.......I hope you are all strong as I need a lot of help when I fall down:p Well done to all this weeks losers and well done to everyone else for sticking at it, we are getting there!! |
weigh in report
HI everyone
the thread has to stay :) I only didn't post my weight sooner because I was away for the weekend at the wedding, but last week was another good one for me I lost another 2lbs again. I'll post about my weekend at the wedding on our other thread :) Ali :wave : |
I'm a class 1, I expect that 's the best hmmm
If you are put to stand in the corridor at our school, you get a detention:?: |
almost forgot to post - 1lb this week; 35 total now
Janey xx |
Late post sorry!
I haven't lost anything this week! I am sorry if the info I posted was a bit OTT. As I tried to explain I write this stuff daily and am keenly interested in trying to find ways that those of us with weight problems can get effective help or learn how to help ourselves. I don't have the answers, obviously, but always hope that I will read or write something that will motivate me or somone else to change lifelong eating and exercise habits for our own benfits. Like I said take me to task if I overdo the lectury bit! I know that it takes time for me to get to know my own clients over the net. So with a forum like this I won't get to know everybody and only hope that I don't offend too many and give some inspiration to others. I'll shut up now! Stef |
