My friend and I went to the Victoria and Albert museum to see the Golden Age of Couture.
Despite all we hear that women are getting bigger I always thought models in the 40s and 50s were bigger than the skinnies souls on the catwalk now. My friend and I saw some pathe newsreels from that time and we realised that the models were just as bony - but more covered up and of course they wore corsets and waspies to get that small waist which made their hips look bigger.
Lovely beautiful gowns. And gorgeous nipped waist suits. They showed mainly Dior (his 'new look' of course) and some other desingers of the time - Balenciaga, Chanel etc, also Hardy Aimies and Normal Hartnell.
One particular blue dress that was worn by Princess Margaret had us all swooning.
At the very end they showed some modern stuff by John Galliano. None of it looked wearable and it looked cheap against the 40s and 50s stuff.
The glamour! The Silk! The Satin! The lace! OOOOOH!
