Rebounder

Hi all of you

Sometime ago I had a leg injury and I was introuced by my physio to the rebounder ( like a tampette). This exercised the leg muscle without doing further damage. He suggested I get one at home and I did. I use it for exercise and have a tape. Its like aerobics on a trampoline but supposed to work the body harder rather than doing in on the ground.

This was very popular, I believe, years ago and I have a video tape which I have been using for over 12 months. However, I would like a change. Does anyone else out there use one and does anyone know of any other videos I may get.

I think this piece of equipment is well used in America and there are tapes advertised on Amazon but they don't play on our VCR's.

Grateful of any help!!

Janet

Hi Jan,

Just popped in to greet you!

BigFatBooty 01-06-2002 12:56 PM

Jano

The only video that I have found in the UK is Cardio Bounce. I don't think the exercise is as popular in the US now, when I did a search on Amazon.com I think they only listed one video. However, you do need a video player that can handle the US format.

I keep on hearing about a video by EB Berns (I think) - they guy that originated the system, but I have been unable to locate it on any US sites.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but if you do hear of anything else I would be interested to know.

Smiling Sal 01-07-2002 08:21 AM

Don't know anything about rebound but it sounds like fun. Trampolining is one of the many things I am going to take up when my weight is a little lighter.

But on exercise videos. Does anybody else work out to exercise vidoes. I have 3 old favourites at home but am at that stage where a change might be nice - can anyone reccommend one ??

The ones I have are

Lorraine Kelly - Figure it out
Lorraine Kelly - Fugiure happy
Billy Blanks - Tae Bo - some beginngers level although it would kill me if I tried it at the moment.

Rebounding

Hi Smiling

You don't have to be small to re-bound. In fact its easier than Aerobics on hard ground (so to speak) much, much easier. You only have to bounce shightly to feel the benefit, you don't even have to leave the canvas.

Got mine from Argos £9.99 and will never part with it. You don't have to use a video just do it for about 5 mins whilst watching TV

Please let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a go

Rebounding again

Hi Ladies (and Gents if the are any!!)

Go on give this a try. Tell me you didn't like jumping on the bed 'till the spring nearly broke when you were a kid. Its real good fun.

Rebounding again again

Hi Groovy

Thank you for your reply. I have one of the videos you mention which is Cardio Bounce plus. The other is The Easier Way to Bouncing Fitness.

I have never met anyone else who uses a rebouder but wish I had had one years ago. It is much easier than doing exercises on solid ground but the benefits are better. Because there is no jolting you are unlikely to get any strains on joints etc. I find exercising on solid ground real hard work now.

If in doubt look up "rebounding" on any search engine and read all about it. Just changing the weight from one leg to the other can be very beneficial.

I would love to hear from anyone else who uses it.

Jano

Ps. Hi to Di who is slaving away at the moment.

Hi all,

Have just got Frank to drag my tramppette out from under the stairs am told it will help. I am just going to hang on to something for balance and bounce away as I get get out far as its too cold for me on my buggy. I am too lazy to put it in the back of Hooley my car so bouncing will have to do for now. Trying to be a bit more mobile for the end of Jan and that wedding in the SUN oh Bliss if you never hear from me again she has sold me for 10 Camels. My Grand daughter has I mean.

There has been a book written on re-bounding by a woman who was crippled with Arthritis (not sure if I spelled that right). Bouncing certainly helped her (so we are told) It aslo tells of other ailments which it helps with.(se Amazon)

If you enter rebounding in to a Uk search engine you will get very interesting results. I think it was even used by NASA as training for the spacemen.

In Leicester, there was a re-bounder centre (not sure if its still there), this will possibly come up on your search. My video was made there. It is a little dated but it does the trick. However, to any one thinking of giving it a go, you do need a very supportive bra. (pulls the wrinkles out of your face ;-) )

BigFatBooty 01-12-2002 04:41 AM

and your boobies hit the ceiling and the floor :D

tupperware queen 01-20-2002 07:36 AM

I quite like the idea of this, will need to purchase the recommended sports Bra first:o
Any body know if it is ok for people with back problems? I have a recurring disc problem which is at warning levels at the moment (no wonder really with this extra weight.....yet another reeason to keep to it!!) It doesn't sound as if it is too high impact, I need to start somewhere and this piece of equipment sounds like it is a decent price and fun to use.
my sis in Canada has one and I used to love it when I visited her, but I was a lot lighter then.

Jano 01-20-2002 09:14 AM

I suggest TQ that you give it a go but go gently to start with - well you will anyway because you need to learn to balance first. I have heard it is good for all ailments, don't know if it refers to your particular problems... possibly your Dr. won't know. I think this may be a Suck it and see situation :?:

BigPhatBooty 01-22-2002 06:09 PM

Just a quick one. I'm back with the Cardio Bounce! Have found another video on an American site, so contemplating sending off for that one too, although the actual video is $29 before shipping

Jano - don't you think the pink and bouncy "thing" is inspirational???

Jano 01-23-2002 01:55 AM

BPB

I don't know about inspirational...(looks a bit like me on my tramp with my purple lycra he!he) but I did like the little girl. Is this a whole new change of image, new name, new piccy, new you? If so, I hope it works out for you.

Whats this new Video? Be careful if it American it may not play. I sent for a Belly Dancing Tape which was American and it was gobbledegook when we played it (don't laugh, it wasn't for me.... though I understand it' brilliant exercise).

I hope my Cardio Bounce arrives today as I have loaned my cardio bounce + to a friend. I still have "he Easier Way to Bouncing Fitness" but its mostly toning. I want aerobics to work the fat!! The only work out on this tape is for 5 mins long... not nearly long enough.

Boing!....off to work!!
Jano

BigPhatBooty 01-23-2002 04:46 AM

Just fancied a change, will most probably go back to the little girl - but was feeling a bit pink and bouncy this week

I have just been out looking for a rebounder, Argos are out of stock no one else in Enfield has one and the JJB Superstore is closed for refurbishment, so I thought to myself go home and order one on the internet/telephone and I could be bouncing by the weekend. Just saw in Argos the maximum weight is 16stone so I still have more than a stone to lose before I can start to use it. Does anyone else have one that is suitable for a heavyweight like me and if so where did you get it?

:?:

Jano 02-12-2002 09:52 AM

rebounder

Hi TQ

Hmm I think you will need to get one from a sports shop possibly, but then it's going to cost. There is one advertised in SW mag called Super Tramp but it is £79.oo which is along way off £15 for the bog standard one in Argos/Index. It doesn't mention weight but they do have a website, so maybe it will tell you there:

www.supertramp.co.uk

This price is delivered t o your door
I'll have a look too

Janet

tupperware queen 02-12-2002 10:58 AM

There is a body sculpture one in Index/littlewoods at £24.99 but no weight limit shown, anyone got any ideas? and the one in argos for people under 16 stone :p is £17.99, I havent found any others yet. the supertramp one is a bit more than I wanted to pay:( oh well decisions decisions do I wast until I lose weight . i know I can't use Harrys in the garden, my feet touch the floor...

flumper 02-12-2002 11:02 AM

TQ that could be a little treat for yourself when you reach the 16 stone mark.......when i get to 15st i want a decent exercise bike its amazing the things you think of when your torturing yourself metally as well as physically(im hungry)

BigPhatBooty 02-12-2002 11:08 AM

Paging TQ

I paid £50 for mine from Lillywhites. The reason why I purchased mine from there is that I read on another forum that some people were having trouble with the Argos ones.
Mine is made by Reebok and is very tough and strong. Also if anything goes wrong, Reebok will be hearing from me
The legs can be screwed off, so the trampoline can be stored flat under the bed or against the wall. Be aware though, it was heavy and cumbersome to transport home, so you need to park somewhere up the West End. I conned hubby into coming with me :s:

They used to be in the catalogues, but I have noticed that it's not in my current Freemans catalogue.

Jano 02-12-2002 11:17 AM

I had mine from Argos, 12months last November and mine is ok. Same, legs screw off etc, but I don't bother with that I just stamd it up in the garage.

I sent my husband for mine.......... I was injured at the time ;)

Delaney 02-12-2002 12:35 PM

Hi TQ - After readying your mail this morning I left a message for you on one of the threads about the 16 stone limit on the Argos rebounder but I don't know where I put it. I'm glad you saw it before you bought it though. I'm 17.7 at the moment and I tried the Reebok one out on Saturday in Lillywhites - the guy in the shop (although he wants a sale) assured me that it would be fine - to be honest it did look more sturdy than the Argos one but it was £50 - I'm going back to get it on Saturday. Let me know how you get on.

I've just written all that and then seen BPB has already said it all!! Are you happy with yours BPB?

BigPhatBooty 02-12-2002 02:53 PM

2nd Attempt

Lights just flashed and the computer restarted mid post

Sorry if repeating, but I assumed that the Reebok one would be more suitable as it would have been made specifically for more strenuous activity. I think it would be more likely to use it in a professional/gym setting. It does come with a leaflet, with shows a few movements, but both Jano and I have ordered the Cardio Bounce video from Bol.com.

I am very pleased with my rebounder, it is very sturdy and even hubby has had a few bounces

OK, so it cost £50 but I think it was money well spent on a recognised brand. I have ordered a different video from an American site, so when this arrives if we are all still using our rebounders, I'll let you know how it is.

tupperware queen 02-12-2002 05:41 PM

thanks everyone for the advice on rebounders etc. i had a conversation with a friend today she has just dug hers out of the loft and says it squeaks quite a lot, she has been using it morning and evening and the neighbours think she is having the time of her life ;) ;)

You have to laugh don't you.

Jano 02-13-2002 03:49 AM

Ha Ha mine squeeks too....

That Cardio-bounce tape is very fast indeed, I still haven't managed to do all the arm and leg movements at the same time, but I think there is an easier section (I haven't looked at that yet) and there are toning exercises. It's very good, but so is my other, Cardio Bounce + (not made by the same people, no connection whatsoever).

Yep BOl. com, that's the place to shop - much cheaper then Amazon

BPB I had all my money back from Amazon for sending me the wrong tape, right label, just wrong tape (It could only happen to me)

Smiling Sal 02-13-2002 05:27 AM

Can see I’m going to have to think about getting one of these. Had to laugh at someone in an earlier post (BPB I think) with the thought about your boobs hitting of the ceiling??

Is a possibility for a later ‘reward’ for losing another 10lbs. Will need to ask for a non squeaky one, can't have it clashing with my the clicking my knees make.

Carol

tupperware queen 02-14-2002 02:38 AM

Reebok rebounder was ready for me when I got back from slimming club, i was a little enthusiastic and within 28 seconds something went ping! in my ankle
(Veggie- stop laughing- you did say it would end in tears!!)

I am still a little tender this morning but have managed a couple of minutes...hey I don't want to overdo it!!

Maybe I should have waited until I weighed under 16 stones!!

Please don't be put off ladies, I was a bit too bouncy for my own good and should have warmed up a bit instead ofgoing at it like a maniac :s:

Jano 02-14-2002 03:48 AM

Hi TQ, well you are now set up for a happy bouncing time.....can't understand how you injured your ankle on it, physio told me it was totally safe and I was using it when I had a calf muscle which was torn 3/4 way across after going up for a high shot at badminton.

Just take it steady, as I say get you balance on it first, if you fall off you will injure yourself.

But did you enjoy it????;)

(It's like being a kid again and bouncing on the bed!!!! )

I have got a booklet, it is very useful, maybe you could give me your work address and I will send it on to you. Its only thin so the postage will be small. Then, whoever gets a tramp next, maybe you could do the same. Oh and of course I will need your full name. It tells you the advantages of rebounding (Its written by a woman who was crippled with arthritus (spelling) who was cured by re-bounding) . It also gives you some moves to do. Let me know if you are interested!!
Jano

Ps Don't forget that Bra!

Delaney 02-14-2002 04:57 AM

Hi Jano I get my rebounder on Saturday - that leaflet would be great. When I'm set up I'll give you my address if that's ok?

Don't worry - I could never forget my bra - it's too big:o

Jano 02-14-2002 05:43 AM

Hi Delaney

That's fine by me - actually I'll dig it out and if its not too big I'll photocopy it and then I'll be able to send it to whoever wants it, without the binder it will probably be 1st class letter post!!

Hope I can find it now :o :o

It may not be a good ideas to put your address on the boards unless you feel happy with that. Alternatively send it to my E mail address ( I think its under my profile??)

Jano 02-14-2002 05:55 AM

Rebounding for Health

I have found the book and it is 94 pages x 2 sides, so what I will do is photocopy it a couple of times and hope to get a copy to anyone who wants it by the end of next week.

Does that sound OK?? You can look it up on the Amazon site, it is called Rebounding for Health writen by Margaret Hawkins.

Mail me your addresses, or if you prefer, your work address

Delaney 02-14-2002 06:46 PM

Thanks Jano - I'll get back to you when I've got the rebounder - can't wait.

BigPhatBooty 02-18-2002 11:47 AM

Well the video that I ordered from America last week Tuesday, arrived today (Amazon.co.uk take note !!!). Will try it tomorrow and let you know how it goes, but I watched it today and the guy does crunches in a unique way  and he and his superfit team jump extraordinarily high for my liking

Jano 02-18-2002 11:52 AM

I preseume it plays OK then.... ordered a belly dancing tape for my friend from America and it was all gobbledigook LOL:dizzy: :dizzy:

Janet

BigPhatBooty 02-18-2002 12:06 PM

I got hubby to check the video player before ordering. It is a Sony and can play UK & US tapes it has PAL NTSC on the front which means it can play both tapes.

Sarah Ann 02-19-2002 09:35 AM

I am trying to talk Kevin in to buying me one... he can't see the point because he says I have got zillions of square miles of moorland to walk across so why would I want to exercise indoors!!

I am persevering though (??nagging??) - is the one from Argos any good? Does it come with instructions on how to use it??

Delaney 02-19-2002 11:15 AM

Sarah all I can say is that I have the Reebok one and it is very sturdy and is silent. The Argos book states that you can't use theirs if you're over 16 stones (so you're ok there) I seem to think that somewhere here somebody said that the Argos one squeaked. I may well be wrong in that assumption though.

WHERE'S MY CARDIO BOUNCE VIDEO?? :(

Jano 02-19-2002 11:28 AM

squeaky rebounder

It only squeakes or creekes due to the fact that it is kept in the Garage and my tumble dryer is on every night. (and the fact that my great weight keep jumpting on it):p :p :p :) :) :)

ChiChi 02-19-2002 02:01 PM

Dont rebounders get a bit boring? Do you just jump up and down on them?

Isnt it better to jump on the ground? Coz with a rebounder your doing less work arent you?

What other CHEAP (as in under £30) excersize equipment have you lot got that you could recommend?

flumper 02-19-2002 04:34 PM

chi chi its better to jump up and down on a rebounder than on a floor that way there is no strain on the joints or impact
