Discectomy

  • Has anyone had a disc removed or any kind of back surgery? I am having my L4/5 disc removed on 5th September and was wondering if anyone had experience of this type of surgery.
  • I know a couple of people who've had this done at the Hallamshire in Sheffield (is this where you are?). Recovery can be slow and should not be rushed but those who've had it done have had a new lease of life afterwards.

  • I am having it done at Barnsley General Hospital, but am keen to know how long I will be before I am up and about. I have been told I won't be fit for work for at least 12 weeks.
  • My op has been brought forward 2 days, 3rd September now, eek, it's getting really close!!
  • Hope it goes well and remember to allow your body to recover at its own speed. Never do more than is comfortable for you.
