  • Happy Birthday Peacock!

Kylie - I agree, we need a picture of the ring.

I've just run a bit under 6 miles. For the first time I managed to persuade myself to go round my 3 mile run twice, but it was getting hot out there so the second lap was more of a struggle. I'm just cooling off then I'll head out and sit by the sea. I wonder what time the bar over the road opens. Then off to the shopping centre later to get some nice salady bits and pop into the clothes shops. Yesterday we went into the mountains which was really nice, I've not been up there for ages. Unfortunately my mum's foot is still playing up so we didn't get to do any of the walks I want to do. Maybe another time.

And a cautionary tale about how hard it can be to find veggie food in Spain. There's always the standby of tortilla, but it gets a bit repetitive, so on Sunday I decided to try "revueltos riojana" which it said were "scrambled eggs with pepper, garlic and red wine". Which sounded really nice, except they forgot to mention that the other ingredient was ham
  • Happy Birthday Peacock

My random post for the day: Got on the scales this morning (even though I told myself I would only do it once a week) and nearly fainted when they told me I had put on over a stone! Thankfully they seem to have died and I have actually lost a lb, but me thinks its time to invest in some new scales! (Well the old ones are nearly 3 years older than me!)

  • Hello girlies!

I'm back from Cornwall and I should really be back to work today, but I had already booked the holiday so I'm using today to cook and clean and wash my clothes!!!

    Welcome Squidger

I stuffed my face in Cornwall which was unusual since I'm usually very good there, but they don't eat much for meals so I think I didn't feel satisfied (head-wise) and had to snack on any choccies/biccies etc that was offered! Also (I find eating at other people's houses interesting...) their meat n 2 veg dinners... I was served 4 sugar snap peas, and about 6 green beans! I usually eat half a packet of sugar snaps per meal! Then of course was the meat... I think I got about 2oz chicken breast... and then a blob of mashed potato... Enough for a child, not super-frus! Anyway, I think MIL took the hint when I ate all the extra veg that she put on the table and at the next meal I got more veg! But overall I ate too much bread (white ) and cheesey mash and choccies and biccies.

Ah well, today I have been to Waitrose and stocked up on all sorts of fruit and veg and eggs and cottage cheese! I've had egg on toast for brekky with a banana, then home-made turkey burger with sugar snaps (half a packet! ) and a bowl of cherries, grapes and blueberries and a clementine... I feel lots better!

Back to the gym tomorrow, although I am debating whether I should go for a bike ride this afternoon since my body is aching to get out and do something! We'll see... I might run or something
  • Shmoo - I am joinging you sistah! I am deffo on a diet as from Today! So far I ahave nto been too bad. I had porrige for brekkie. I had nut roast with veggies for lunch which onfortunatley included chips (not much choice of veg int he canteen) but will only have soup tonight before the theatre.

I will try to stick to soup in future I think.

YP1- I found it hard to eat veggie in Spain though I did notice some Veggie Paella when I was there - I never ate it though. I rmeember when I was in Germany just before Christmas and had the usual problem of what to eat. I saw some bread sticks and thought they would be fine. Well, let me tell you, there was a tiny cube, yes one tiny cube , of ham in that bread!!!
  • 2 frus - I know what you mean about the veg at other people's houses. I have to bite my lip when my mum says - is this enough veg? I was shocked at how little her and my dad ate. They eat more now but that woman could really stretch a small bit of broccoli!!
  • Welcome Squidger .

Morning all and happy new year. I'm back on plan today and ready for a new year. Even though there is still christmas cake left . Oh well, I wonder if the chickens will eat it?
  • Some people are strange about veg. DH's Mum usually dishes up a couple of different kinds of veg but in oh-so-tiny amounts - so you might end up with a tablespoon each of plain boiled diced swede, broccoli and peas - which is better than one of our guests last night - he only eats that frozen diced mixed veg - and only a tablespoon or two of that! I don't know how he's still alive - if that was all I ate I'd probably develop scurvy or something.

All my doggies are poorly. None of them feel like eating - they're lively enough though, so we're not too worried (yet).
  • Anyone else made any New Year's Resolutions - mine aren't really 'Resolutions' - more like a list of things I will try to do:
    1. Cut back the amount of animal protein I eat to three times each week.
    2. Not drink alcohol except for a glass or two of wine at the weekends or if we go out.
    3. I'm going to go cold turkey on cheese completely. I have got no self control around blue cheese at all so I'm not buying it until I think I've got the addiction under control.
    4. Get back in to doing HIIT exercise for 20 minutes, 4 times a week (on top of my normal walking routine).
    5. Introduce more variety in to my breakfasts and lunches.

I have a horrible feeling that a lot of these are repeats on the things I promised myself last New Year - ah well....
  • Not really made any resolutions but am insistent that I WILL lose weight this time!!!

Lynne A - not liking Christmas cake I did not indulge at Christmas and I only had 1 mince pie as I only like them hot and my mum insists on giving them out cold. I did have one lot of pudding but at the new year celebration I had a small piece of a Tobagan lady's cake and it was gorgeous! They know how to make Christmas cake in the Caribbean - well moist!!!
  • Thank you for your get wells I'm back in the Land of the Living, well back at work today, I wouldn't like to say any of the motley crew I work with a living but hey

    Happy Birthday Peacock

For the record I would like it to be known I have given up Malteesers Those little brown will no longer be welcome in my house. I'm back on the diet wagon as from today All spare cakes, biscuits & chocolates/sweets have been donated to the pigs at work mwhahahahaha

Sarah Ann - Cheese cold turkey is vile, it's worse than Malteeser cold turkey but not as bad a giving up smoking cold turkey. Good Luck Hun
  • Well the decorations are down. That's it over for another year. My daughter's friend went back to Texas today and the schools go back tomorrow
I always want to clean big time and sort through clothes when the new year starts. Just done the basic so far not up to a big cleaning at the moment.

I made Hoppin' John yesterday it was delicious. I didn't have a ham hock so used a smoked sausage instead. Turned out good. It's supposed to be lucky to eat that at new year. Also the chimney sweep is coming tomorrow and I will be shaking his hand. Might as well get all the good luck I can.

Moo I also love maltesers had a few over christmas. Mind you this medicine I'm on makes me not want to eat. I have lost weight since I started it. Not the way you want to do it.

Squidger , made me laugh when you said about getting on the scales and them being older than you. Time to get a new set.

Chris how is the treadmill? Enjoying it.

    Happy birthday Peacock good age.

    Congrats Kylie.
  • Hey Ladies..happy new year!!!

Michelle my thoughts are with you and your family, I hope you Dad continues to improve.

CG hope you are ok too

I was up in Vermont this weekend and the amount I ate and drank was absolutely stupid. I got home last night and the scale was up to 168 I almost fainted. Usually when I go out of town I walk a lot but this weekend I was so lazy, and it was snowing, so I seemed to spend the majority of time in the bar.

We got up there Saturday after a 5 hour drive in the snow and went out for drinks and dinner. Sunday we shopped all day and ate all kinds of crap in all the shops. They all have samples and it was ridiculous. Sarah I thought of you in the cheese shop, they had like 60 different kinds to try. Then I marched right over to the chocolate shop!!!

New Years eve I drank like a fool so I ended up eating all kinds of junk yesterday. Oh well I said this weekend I wasn't going to worry about anything, it was new years and an early birthday celebration since some of friends will be out of town the weekend of my birthday. One of my friends flew in from Chicago to join us so I wasn't going to be all stressed about food all weekend.

I just dropped my friend at the airport and took a 5 mile run on the beach scales are already down a bit, I'm hoping by the end of the week to have taken care of most of the damage done
