I joined TOPS in May of 2004 and then rarely went. Just excuses as usual. Then when I went back and attended a few months in a row, they made me vice pres/co-leader. Now I have no excuse to miss as I have to set the example. I love getting my charms and going to ARD in southern calif. I want to walk in the 100 lb club across stage next year. That would be so great but I have to start with baby steps. I hope that we can encourage each other here just as in group. Take care,

Lill

Tops Group

Hi everyone,
Just new here today and just found out that some of you ladies go to TOPS.
I joined on January 3, 2006 and I have lost 7 lbs. so far. I am quite pleased with myself. I am diabetic so I have been following the exchange plan. I am so pleased with TOPS so I am starting one in my home town ;) . Can't wait to get started. I am starting our group on Feb. 13th and then we are having a open house Feb. 27th. Hope there will be lots of ladies joining:dancer: my sister-in-law has lost over 60 lbs in the two years. She looks amazing!

I am looking for some ideas that we can do at TOPS. I really am interested in the contests that they do. So if you ladies have any ideas please feel free to share them with me.

Thanks in advance,
Wheezy

A friend just told me about TOPS, I've been moaning about wanting some motivation and just joined 3fatchicks today. I check and found out that there next meeting is next Tuwday night but that is good in a way, as I'm working on getting myself pumped up and motivated. I have the desire but am tempted too easily and not even decided on whether to do calorie counting or just a plan like Nutrisystem or what.

Losetogain 02-24-2006 03:13 AM

Nebraska/Iowa???

Hi!! I'm considering joining tops as there is a group that meets about 2 miles away from my workplace. I am wondering are there any other Nebraska/Iowa/South Dakota girls here that are members?? I think it'd be nice to have more local girls so we can help each other out!!!

Indiacatz 02-25-2006 07:06 AM

Welcome losetogain.. I am from NY, Not sure if there are western girls on this forum or not, but welcome anyway... India

quiltmama 02-28-2006 07:27 AM

Tonight will be my first Tops meeting in Crestivew Fl, I don't know if I can join tonight or not but if I can I probably will. I've been "dieting" Wednesday will be one week. I'm eager to get some local help and motivation, I've been gone since last Thursday night and we just got back late last night. I was hoping my Nurtri System meals has arrived. I'm going to give it a try. I wasn't going to weigh till my first day on Nutrisystem but if I join Tops they will weigh me.

I'm scared to death to see what I weigh!

Indiacatz 02-28-2006 08:08 PM

Quiltmama, welcome aboard... Dont worry about the scales, just go with it and you will be surprised... .... scales are scary lol ... believe me, I know... Barb

quiltmama 02-28-2006 11:06 PM

I went to my first meeting at TOPS, they seem like a nice friendly group of people. Another lady joined tonight as well so I didn't feel alone. When they weighed me in I was a pound less there than at home which was a surprise.

quiltmama 03-13-2006 06:13 AM

Where is everybody at and how has everyone been doing. I'm looking forward to my meeting Tuesday to see what I weight, actually I should know Tuesday mornng because that is the only day I get on the scale at home.

gggbdomino 03-19-2006 12:35 PM

Hi my name is Maureen but you can call me G I'm a member of TOPS in westminster Colorado I just love it.I just joined 3fc the other day it seem really great. I have lost a told of 20 pounds between ww tops and ediets it's been a long road and I have 80 pounds to go but I'll get there.

quiltmama 03-19-2006 01:40 PM

welcome G, I'm a member in Crestview FL, it is a small group. I've lost about 8 since joining so I'm pleased but have a way to go too. Hang in there with me and we can see us to our goal! I'm counting calories and cooking and eating low-fat. I'm focusing on this is how I will eat the rest of my life. It doesn't mean depravation, just moderation.

gggbdomino 03-19-2006 10:50 PM

:carrot: Yes sir well be KOPS before you know it  I was just elected co-leader of my chapter everyone is so nice and suportive. I'm a vegetarian and have been since the begining oh the year. It is working for me all losses not one turtle. Good luck to you your next meeting is when?

quiltmama 03-20-2006 08:26 AM

G, my next meeting is tomorrow night, Tuesday, and I'm not sure what my body is going to do. but what ever it does I will go with it. I know I've stuck to my calories so if it shows a weight gain, then I know my body is just being dumb.

I'm doing the presentation tomorrow, I'm doing it on Calorie Counting, and how the body loses weight. Want to read it?

I have a friend in Delaware who is also a vegan. She's had problems losing weight. Nutri system has vegan meals. I ordered one week (from QVC) of their food just to see how it was, it wasn't bad, but you don't get to choose your meals in the one week package. It had more beef and pasta type things, than I perfer. I'm not doing the Nutrisystem diet, but I do have to go about 1.5 hours away and stay 4 to 6 hours so those meals have helped me have something to take with me to eat since they don't have to be refrigarated.

I'm not vegan, but I'm not a big meat eater. I perfer fish and chicken.

quiltmama 03-22-2006 07:13 AM

How is everyone doing. My scales and the tops scales, between one or the other of them something is too goofy.

The scales are driving me crazy! Last week my scale said I lost 2.5 pounds. The tops scale which normally shows 1 pound less than what my scale says, said I lost 1.25. This week my scale said I lost 1/2 pound, their scale said I lost 2.75. I'm not so sure about the weighing ladies. LOL

But I count what my scale says, and pretty much ignore theirs. So overall I lost and that is what counts to me. A little bit less of me each week. I did a presentation on dieting using calorie counting method and lots of imput from the book Calorie queens.

jillybean720 03-22-2006 07:38 AM

quiltmama, you are doing AWESOME! :carrot: Whether it's .25 or 25 pounds, a loss is a loss, and you're heading steadily in the right direction!

As for me, I didn't go to my TOPS meeting last week (I was too lazy and too afraid to face the scale), and I'm not oging agian this week because my co-workers are throing me a good-bye party on my TOPS night (since I start my new job on Monday).

I can't wait to get back into the swing of things with my group, and our SRD is next month, so hopefully that will motivate me!

quiltmama 03-22-2006 07:50 AM

Thanks for the support, you are right a loss is a loss, my group is going to SRD, I think next month too, I'm not sure what that is, but since I'm a newbie I've declined to go anyway.

jillybean720 03-22-2006 08:06 AM

SRD is State Recognition Day. It's when TOPS members from all over the state get together for a weekend of fun, support, celebration, awards, and stuff. They present new KOPS memebers, division winners, a state king and queen, and lots of other stuff, plus they provide education programs and fun contests and usually organized walks and such. This year, it's taking place in Virginia only about a mile or 2 from my apartment, so I have no excuse not to go! Plus I am apparently a division winner, so I get an award :o

quiltmama 03-22-2006 08:34 AM

yeah for you, that is great. How many are in your TOPS group? Mine has about 14 to 17, although I've never seen more than about 14 there. I guess I made a good decision not to go. I hate to say this, but I'm a bit confused about some of them too. Two ladies in the group are so nasty with their attitudes.

I'm not sure about other things too, it seems a lot of people go in my group more for the social reason. It seems they've all been going for many, many years, some as many as 5 or 10 years but none of them are KOPS.

I don't see a lot of real weight loss discussions either, each week someone does a small 15 minute presentation. Maybe it is me and I'm being negative, but I'm not sure with some of their attitudes. When I joined I had 30 pounds to lose, keep in mind I lost 60+ a couple of years ago, and one of them, don't me I shouldn't even be there.

lynard21 03-22-2006 04:19 PM

Welcome Maureen

Welcome to the on-line TOPs forum. Glad you decided to stop in. We have a biography thread at the top of the forum in the "sticky" section where you can introduce yourself more completely. That way we can learn more about one another - you can read about some of us in there too. Just copy the questions into a new post and answer.

I hope you find some great support here and at your local TOPs. Ours has about 25-30 members, but usually about 15 stay for the meetings. I was just elected secretary, and was weight recorder before that. Going every week keeps me honest and motivated.

So welcome!!:welcome: :wel3fc: :welcome2:

gggbdomino 03-29-2006 09:32 PM

Hi ladies sorrey I haven't been on line all week. My dad was very sick and passed away on Saturday. It's been hard week. My TOPS friends have all been really suportive. I think I've even lost some weight but thats not where my head is at right now. I hope everyone is doing good and haveing fun. I'll be back in the swing of things in a week or so. There is just a lot going on.

Lill 03-29-2006 10:47 PM

My deepest condolences, I am glad that your group is supportive not only in weight loss but in life in general. This is what true support is.

Elva

quiltmama 03-30-2006 04:40 AM

I'm so sorry gggbdomino. Was he very sick before? I know what it is like to go through the loss of a parent. Plus my surviving parent is very sick and now in a nursing home unable to walk, but doing somewhat better health wise.

I know it is hard to focus on anything at this point, I think the one thing that kept me going after the loss of my mother was remembering the good times and the laughter she had. My thoughts are with you.

jillybean720 04-10-2006 09:06 AM

Is this thread basically just a TOPS "general chatter" type of thread, or is it more specific? If not, could we start a general chatter thread? It seems we kep making a new thread for every idea that pops into our heads, but I think maybe if we had one ongoing thread, we could form a more cohesive little community :^:

quiltmama 04-11-2006 07:06 AM

sounds good to me, let's start chattering. What do you want to chatter about?

My TOPS group meets tonight. I couldn't go last week because of being out of town dealing with things with my father, but I hope to get there tonight.

jillybean720 04-11-2006 08:03 AM

quilt--hope you made it to your meeting! I started a chat thread here since I found out this one is primarily for people who have questions about TOPS: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81410

FLgal 04-17-2006 03:10 PM

TOPS Tonight

Hello everyone,
Well my 11 year old daughter and I go and face the scales tonight. Wish us luck. I went to Kmart the other day and tried on a pair of jeans that were a size smaller than what i wear. I could get them on and buttin them and almost zip them up. That really motivated me. I will keep eating right and exercise more and go back in two weeks to see if I can get into them.

Good luck to everyone who has TOPS this week. See you lighter

Nancy

itz_marie 04-22-2006 12:26 AM

Hello:

My name is Marie. I've been lurking around on several of the boards and am trying to figure out a program that I can do that I can stick with. In the past I've done Weight Watchers, Atkins, Rice Diet, Slimfast, Somersize Diet and countless of others. All work to some degree. Weight Watchers seemed to be the easiest to stick with but I lost more weight when I did Atkins, but it was harder to stick with long term. Anyway, I'd like to know more about those who have had success with TOPS. Also, has anyone done both Weight Watchers and TOPS? If so which do you prefer and why.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marie

Indiacatz 04-23-2006 08:27 AM

Hello Nance and Marie... Welcome to the Tops boards... I do know people that have done both Tops and WW at the same time.. Not sure why they choose to do that, but I know they like our group as an informal support group... To really sit and talk about whats going on.... We have a lots of very successful members in our group... last year we had two lose over 50 lb each and on their way down to Kops... I think working my way to Kops is the carrot dangling in front of my face.. .I really want to get there... so that is great motivation for me....
I am a new leader this year also.. there are Tops links on Tops.Org with games and programs ... just search the site...

Shirlee 04-28-2006 01:28 AM

Hello all! I just wanted to add about TOPS that I am a 19 yr member with a weight loss of just over 100 pounds to goal, have been at goal (KOPS) for almost 14 yrs. So yes, if you work the program... which mainly means have a plan of some type that you can live with long term. TOPS is about lifestyle change thru the magic formula of eat less and exercise more for life. Any good plan that teaches you to change your lifestyle will work, TOPS is the best in my opinion! For those just starting out, the main thing is 'just don't give up'! You are never a failure till you stop trying. Remember the phrase "Nothing tastes as good as THIN feels!!" hugzz, Shirlee

cbe79 05-11-2006 12:04 AM

when you do join, do you have to bring in something from your doctor stating your goal weight? me and my doc disagree on my goal weight .. i say 150 is good for me i am 5'6 with a large frame.. he thinks 160

lynard21 05-11-2006 08:49 AM

You could go with your Dr's recomendation of 160 and then once you reach that goal and you feel like you want to go further and your Dr. agrees you can lower it then.

Lyn

Indiacatz 05-15-2006 03:35 AM

I believe I read in the rules that the doc slip just needs to be signed before you reach goal... For me, I am 5'3 and the doc said 150.. but I t hink 145 would be better... but I am 57 y rs old too....Maybe your doc would agree to a lower weight once you get closer to your goal....

catcookie 08-04-2006 04:36 PM

My sister was going to tops a few years ago and it was working for her
but the chapter moved and switched the day so she couldn't do it anymore.
I'm thinking of checking it out myself. I'm starting the Montignac plan, it's a
lot like the sommerize plan and so far so good but I would some group support. That's the one thing I miss about weight watchers meetings.

Indiacatz 08-06-2006 12:31 PM

Hi Cat cookie. Tops gives great support. They have a website. Tops.ORg . You should be abled to find a group near your home. Check out several first. You may prefer one over another. We have a general chat thread below. Feel free to join us anytime... Barb

Hello All!! I am new here and I have been a member of T.O.P.S for about a year. I have only lost and gained the same 10lbs time and time again. I was looking for more help. I am really starting to get what it means to be in control of my eatting habits. I also have started working out more.
Thank you all for being here for me. I really needed you all...
Tammy

Christian 03-15-2007 08:18 AM

Tammy, If there is anything we can do to help just let us know, this board is just full of great women who really care, just like our home chapters :D
