Oh Skinnydip....you could come whenever you wanted. We don't take attendance here. We just are happy to see each other. All of us are busy and post at varying frequencies....usually once a day, but often less when those busy times strike. Sometimes we just lurk and get support that way. Please feel free to join in anytime!

Kaylets....did you make it? Day 3? Hope DH is recovering nicely from the surgery.

Arabella, thou be quiet. Only 2 weeks to go 'til the big performance.

Anagram...how goes the company? You must be busy with them!

I must be off....brekkie and I can tell those puppies have done the deed in their pen...it is stench-a-tious in here!

Happy Saturday, Queenies!

Grey day again, but still mild. We've got Messiah practice in -- wow -- about an hour. But I've been enjoying settling into the day. DH was running with a friend and I had the sudden thought that said friend might want to shower here. GAK! Shower needed some serious attention (actually needs to be recaulked AGAIN because there are issues that prevent caulking from adhering properly). So I jumped in there and made it more-or-less respectable. Better to have it done, though, I must say.

I woke up this a.m. feeling pretty good. It was a crabby week, though. I've got a sore arm/shoulder, work's been horrendous. Plus the agony of helping DS move. But. The week is through, arm is slowly starting to feel better and life seems good to me today. :)

Tonight's the ballet performance of the Messiah, which I'm hoping will help get the music more firmly in my head. I feel like taking the sheet music book for it so I can follow along. Guess I won't tho.

skinnydip, if thou lingerest, I echo other queens: Any visits you can comfortably make would be welcome. Drop in any time you like! 'Tis never meant to be just another darn obligation...

Kaylets -- yay for you and the shunning of the candy dishes! Each day will make it easier.

Ceara, well, that's the downside of babes, isn't it. But they're SO adorable! Be not frustrated by demon scale -- I bet you get a plummet soon.

Anagram, hope you're having a lovely time with family!

I'd best go feed self before we head off to practice. Love to all

anagram 11-18-2006 08:45 AM

Good Saturday morning, Luvs! Sunny but cold. That's much better than the flooding rains of Thursday, for sure.

Hey Skinnydip/chunky dunk = the palace is a place of no obligations - we're happy to see you (and other occasional :queen:s) whenever you happen to journey into Royal Realms. Please keep us apprised of your progress whenever you have a moment even though much time may pass.

Family was just a one day thing and it went very well. Four of us sibs together, plus 2 spouses, three nephews w/2 wives and 3 bebes. Unusual to have so many from far away at one time. Alaska, Texas, North Carolina plus local. Strangely was not as tired as I had expected to be. I think I'm recuperating a bit more. Hurray!

Glad you're feeling a bit more chipper, Arabella. Always hated moving, esp. DS - planning ahead and being ready were not in his vocabulary in those pre-marriage days. Having a caulk/shower problem too. Seems to be an oft repeating situation here.

Ah, Nurse Kaylets - hope all is going well with that nasty cysts. DS had a similar removal last year - one they were aware of but couldn't get time w/doctor and it wasn't a BIG problem. Well by the time he got in, it was. Nasty. Of course, he's not diabetic so no healing problems that way. (And yes, he is a sweetie though I did hear a few muffled expletives when he was loading his gear into the car during a rainstorm last weekend and he'd forgotten to unlock the car ;) - still sweet and they WERE muffled so i don't know how expletive-y they were.)
He's off to run a 10 miler in VA Beach this weekend though he says he's not going to finish as he doesn't think he's in good enough shape this week (after lots of travelling again). Sometimes though, once he starts, he gets in the groove and just goes ahead.

Ah yes, the little stenchlings. The price of the joy, I guess.

Little ones this week were 2, 1 and 1. So there were a few nappies floating around. Sweet youngest has some nasty developmental problems. He's coming along but in some areas seems to be more at 4/5 months. The other, two weeks older, is up and running and doing all the normal things. Nice to have little ones exploring. The two year old is adorable but the usual two year old energy. Good I didn't have to chase him.

OK, I'm doing Thanksgiving here in a few days so I must put on the old thinking cap and start getting it together.

And do all the usual "etc." things that take up so much of life's precious time.

wsw 11-18-2006 08:14 PM

greetings, royal dwellers. i sure have missed everyone! i have had a lot of various and sundry ms "technical difficulties" and resulting infections, and generally feeling crummy physically for quite a long siege. am finally starting to feel better now, and hope to not be such a stranger in the kingdom. i am hopelessly behind on all your posts, but have been thinking of you all. well, i just wanted to at least check in briefly tonight. have a good evening, everyone. take care.

anagram 11-19-2006 07:10 AM

So great to "see" you, wsw. Sorry about all your difficulties. Lots of good vibes coming your way.

Nice brisk walk in the cemetery yesterday. I didn't really time it for some reason but it was a slightly different and longer route. Extra calories gone because of the cold wind too ;)

Just figured out why I feel so behind (I'm a bit slow) - 3-4 days last week I was gone or otherwise involved in out of the ordinary things. Am really going to have to hustle a bit the next few days. Noting that I'm feeling even better than a week or two ago.

Cold again today but will try for another good brisk walk. Hear birdies calling so can't be too bad out there this morning.

Good one, :queen:ies!

Arabella 11-19-2006 10:38 AM

Sunday in the Palace

Yesterday turned out to be a gorgeous day. By the time we came out of choir practice, the sun was out and it was lovely and mild. We did some of the usual Saturday type chores and went out to buy a dryer to replace the one that went up in flames.

The ballet was a bit on the disappointing side (minimalist, whereas I'm more inclined towards the maximalist) but it was fun to go out with our friends anyway and the Indian buffet was very good. Also, just nice to be out in the evening :)

Have done our walk today and gathered up about 10 big bags of leaves. I'm planning a birthday celebration for a sister at a restaurant on Tuesday. Calling people, making reservation, baking cake. Still... much easier than trying to have the party here. Although my mom's birthday's coming up too and I will do that here I think...

wsw, I'm so glad you're feeling a bit better. Nice to see you back in the palace! It's so easy to get under the weather in the fall and hard to get back up to speed.

Anagram, that is such a comfort to hear about your DS -- who sounds v. much like my DS in regards to preparation and etc. I think, also, after my DS having that breakdown I find anything especially stressful for him to be a little frightening. Glad you're feeling more like yourself, too. Makes life so much easier, doesn't it.

K, Queenies -- let's make it a good one!

Kaylets 11-20-2006 05:56 AM

Hello all.... I couldn't get in here again till this morning....

Here's the news in brief....

DH 's sees the surgeon again today for followup and to decide
A: when DH can go back to work
B: if the visiting nurses need to continue to come to the house
C: when the cyst itself will be removed.

For the most part DH feels ok but changing the dressing and the packing of the wound is horrible for him and he dreads them. But the nurse says each day the wound is looking better. I saw it myself yesterday and its definitely big but not infected looking.... needs lots of healing but looking healthy.

We also realize we are infested w Pantry Moths ( weevils?).....
So, I did meet my goal of 100 items thrown away .... too bad it was the bulk of the pantry.... nearly all our dried beans, flours, barley, etc had to go.
Found some sticky type traps that are definitely catching them. So.... Onwards.....

WSW___ SO glad you could come by....!

And for me, Yes, yes. yes. its wonderful to starting DAY 5 of no sugar....
And yes, I've said this before but I really need to figure out away to hold onto this feeling.... I am waking up easier, I feel more energy, I just FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs to all.....

BUT>>>>> Just so you know, I am thinking of a New Thread topic... just working out a name.... to help us battle the upcoming food fest days ahead of us... but of course, in a Royal Manner.....

I hear the trumpets calling....

ceara 11-20-2006 07:40 AM

Am in a downward trend....finally. 2 pounds over the week-end. Of course it was easy to hang on....there were no healthy food opportunities at the show, so I just passed on 'em. Although those french fries sure smelled good on Friday! I could even smell the vinegar.....

Glad you are on the mend wsw! Does this get worse through the winter? Or just flare whenever?

Kaylets...I keep all my dry stuff in heavy plastic air proof containers or in the freezer. I have noticed a few of the moths around lately myself....my DH brought them into the house once in bird seed....guess where he keeps it now? Garage. I also have found that bulk-food purchases can oftend have them. Pesky things.

OK....gotta boogey. Class visit this am and I am not prepared!

wsw 11-20-2006 07:30 PM

anagram-glad to hear that you are feeling even better than a week or two ago. i hope this continues to be the trend for you.

arabella- i hope the birthday celebration you planned for your sister goes well tomorrow, and that a good time will be had by all.

kaylets-hope things go well for dh at his surgeon appt. tomorrow, and that the wound continues to heal as quickly as possible. way to go on your no sugar challenge!

ceara-congrats on the weight loss! yes, the cold weather definitely does make whatever ms "technical difficulties" are going on at the time, worse.

thanks for the good wishes. i got out today for a little while, and it felt good to be "out among 'em." fortunately, have been able to stay op, though the scale sure moves either not at all, or downward at a snail's pace. i guess as long as it moves downward, though, i can't complain. well, greetings to all our royals, mentioned or -un. take care.

Kaylets 11-20-2006 08:12 PM

Hello all, thanks for the kind words....

DH's surgeon DID release DH to go back to work as well as deciding the wound doesnt need to packed any more, just bandaged. I'm not sure which made DH happiest but for sure, he is a very happy boy tonight.
The nurse at work will change the bandage the next 2 days and I will do it the others.
So, forward!

Ceara, the royal pup here is scratching her back legs enough to break the skin... I am apply Neosporin in a very thick layer as well as giving her 2 Hydrocor ( ? Sorry, the bottle is downstairs....) 2x a day based on the last time the dog was itchy. This time however, she is shedding like mad. Loose hairs, not big clumps but lots and lots. Anything advise till I can get her into the vet? My guess is that may not happen till Friday.
I do not see any fleas. And we have been applying the liquid btwn her shoulder blades and near her tail too ( just for good measure .... last time the fleas really set up housekeeping in her private area).....

Ah well.... I just go from one patient to the next it seems!

DAY 5 with no sugar!

Tra la!

Kaylets 11-21-2006 06:28 AM

Good Morning all....

Does anyone remember the visuals Q Punkinseed would use when food was tempting her? ( bugs crawling in the food)....

Last spring, I think I mentioned we had a mouse problem. Finally, after other attempts didn't failed to control the problem, we had to buy poison.
Initially I bought what came in a arpx a 2 " X 3" block. When I first put it in an out of the way place, I began to hear noises as though the block was getting shoved around. I imagined a few mice were arguing about who would get to it first.
Later, I realized the block showed chew marks and was moved some.
At the same time, I suddenly realized, in that same area was a typical mouse hole. The next time I heard noises and looked, I saw that the block of poison was 1/2 way into the mouse hole. Then as I stood there looking it fell. and then I heard the same noise I had been hearing. AND
that's when I realized the mice were trying to get that block of poison back to their nest.......

That memory of the block of poison, 1/2 way into the mousehole has come back to me again and again lately.........
Reminding me of myself..... dragging things into the house that are literally like poison to me.....They look and smell great but in the long run......

Hmmmmm

Morning musing....

Beginning of Day 6...........

PS...Did I mention I climbed 2 extra flights of stairs? starting to feel the muscle's getting firm again.....

KETTLE IS ON!

ceara 11-21-2006 07:41 AM

Hi Ladies! Wsw, great to see you back on the thread. Glad things are getting better.

Kaylets, usually that would indicate to me a flea problem. Usually when the dog is losing hair in the hind end and scratching, I'd be checking for flea dirt. Which of the products are you using? One of them is better...F one, than the others. And be sure you are not overusing, or using in conjunction with flea shampoos etc. Or she could be allergic to the product. Are there pus-filled bumps? If so, likely she has set up a staph infection. Keep in mind I am not a vet and this is only what I've experienced. If you have an outside deck area, it may be an idea to flea bomb under it....they love dark dampish places. Leaf mold etc is their fav.....

Ok, here we go Tuesday!

Arabella 11-21-2006 10:37 AM

Hi Queenies!

Ooh, it's Novemberish out there -- grey and windy and cold. Brrrrrrr!

I baked a pumpkin spice cake for DSis' birthday last night and will make cream cheese frosting and put it together this aft. Must deliver it to restaurant so I can walk over. I think the cake turned out well (not going to have a smidgen, though, nuh-uh). I'm putting it on a huge, aqua Lu-ray pastel plate and my sister (who makes beeswax candles) is bringing birthday candles in pale shades of blue, green and mauve. It will be very pretty, I think :)

Not feeling 100%, tired and achy and a little fluish. My site director suggested I take off Weds-Fri this week, though, so I'm looking forward to a nice long weekend.

Kaylets, for some reason I'm picturing something maggoty. Works for me!

K, I'll get back to work, I guess. Aloha and avanti...

ceara 11-22-2006 08:20 AM

Yes Arabella...it is getting more seasonal out there....frost on the wind screens this morning!

I managed to walk yesterday and am hoping to do the same today. Need to get new work out shoes...these are missing some of the insides...wore 'em right off....

Was stiff yesterday...attended a percussion workshop Sunday pm...and was gripping one of those drums with thighs....so inner thighs got a workout...and the pulled one isn't happy about it. However, it will be fine.

Anyway...got shots to get on the heathens, and shoes to buy and a cd to pick up....I need to get goin'!

anagram 11-22-2006 08:54 AM

Frosty here this a.m. as well. Got in a nice, slighly longer walk yesterday. Really thrilled to get back to walking outside on a regular basis. It's been almost every day. Of course, I haven't made it to pool and missed a tai chi or two as well. Reminding myself I'm a :queen:, not Superwoman.

So - today's the big prep day. After a quick shower, I'm going to get started on setting up table, putting out plates and pots and just being as organized as my little (a little poetic license here) self can be ;) The whole immediate royal family will be here. All the basics prepared as simply as possible and hopefully all done and ready before anyone arrives. Then chaos will reign the next few days but that's what family's for, I think.

Enjoy the well deserved rest, Arabella. Good inner thigh workouts are hard to get, ceara, but treat that pull nicely for a little while now. Congrats on wearing out shoe innards. And, wsw, SUPER CONGRATS on staying op through all of your difficulties.

Best wishes for a Regal holiday to all celebrating tomorrow and a Regal Thursday to those who beat us to it and celebrated last month.
